Thank you everyone for your awesome reviews on the recent chapters. It seriously means a lot to me and Amber! xx I'm introducing a regular TVD character in upcoming chapters, Enzo. The only thing I've changed is Damon and Enzo's history together, and adding in my own back story and future plots etc. (Just a minor tweak—Damon rescues Enzo instead of abandoning him.)

"Do you believe that love is an illusion?"
He looked at her in such a way that made her feel self-conscious.
The Depth of Love
That smile. That sexy half smile. Elijah Mikaelson rarely ever smiled, but whenever he did, it made every straight woman swoon. Elena felt this way when she found herself mesmerized by the mysterious Original who stood across from her, alongside his date, Rose.
"Were you following me, brother?" Klaus teased.
"Rose suggested we visit this exhibit this evening, so I agreed to indulge her and take her out."
Rose smiled while flirtatiously looking at Elena. "I have an appreciation for modern art."
"Well," said Klaus, "you've come to the right place—I'm sure that one of you must have a secret fetish for S&M."
"That would have to be me," Rose replied.
"Come now, Elijah. No need to be shy about this particular preference." He continued to goad his brother.
The Original didn't bat an eyelash as he gave Klaus the quaintest look. "You and I are polar opposites, Niklaus."
"Indeed we are. Thank God for that. I would hate to have to compete against another version of myself."
Rose laughed. "So then you must be aware of how difficult you are."
"Of course I'm aware."
Elena decided to speak up. "He just doesn't care."
The Hybrid smirked at her and was about to add to her comment when his cellphone rang. Klaus checked the caller ID. His warlock, Xavier, was calling. "I need to take this. I'll be right back."
He left the trio and disappeared.
Rose had a feeling that Elijah held a torch for Elena Gilbert. He may not have confessed it to her, but she always trusted her gut, and Rose's instincts were never off. She was quite fond of Elena herself. She and Elijah were not exclusively dating, but he was comfortable enough to open up to her about certain things. For the past month and a half, Elena had become a popular topic of discussion, which gave Rose the impression that he was in love with her.
"I'm to going to find the artist." Rose decided to leave her "date" alone with Elena.
Hopefully he will take this opportunity to flirt with her and not just awkwardly discuss the weather! She said to herself.
Elijah slid his hands into his pockets and looked at Elena. "Are you enjoying the exhibit?"
"Yes, I wasn't expecting to see—well, this kind of artwork."
"I assume my brother failed to mention that he was taking you out to see erotic photography."
"Klaus fails to mention a lot of things."
His smile was faint, but his eyes never left her face.
"I've started reading that book you got me," she added. "It's amazing. I love it. His philosophies about love and lust are so profound."
"Bordeaux is one of my favorite philosophers," said Elijah. "It is ironic that he studied love and its myths throughout his life. He was considered to be a recluse and an extremely bitter man. I believe he was plagued by the romanticism of love."
"Really?" Elena looked surprised. "I wonder what caused him to be like that. I would have never guessed. Although, there is an underlying cynicism in his writing."
"A cynicism one can appreciate."
She met his eyes shyly. "Yes."
"Bordeaux was a realist, in love with the idea of love, but reminding us that it is nothing but an illusion."
"Do you believe that love is an illusion?"
He looked at her in such a way that made her feel self-conscious.
"I've lived nearly a thousand years, Elena. I am predatory by nature, an ageless immortal, dangerous… and yet … love is the only thing that keeps me human. I believe that love is beautiful and real, as real as the beauty you radiate when I look upon your face."
Elena blushed, and he noticed. The Original charmingly smiled at her in that sexy but subtle "Elijah-way."
Rose had stolen a glance at them socializing so intimately, it made her smile. The wheels in her head began to turn, and she was soon devising a plan that wold work in Elijah's favor.
"Has my brother shown you the library at the mansion yet?" Elijah asked.
"No, not yet."
"How unfortunate. Please allow me the honor of giving you the grand tour myself the next time you visit."
"I would love that," Elena replied.
When Klaus returned, Rose appeared by Elijah's side and suggested that they all go out for drinks. Klaus agreed and the four of them left the exhibit, driving separately in their own vehicles toward a popular lounge called The Olive & Martini.

Once inside, they were seated in the VIP section. The decorative style was themed in red and black, dim romantic lighting, with cube shaped, black tables with tea-light candles in the middle as the center piece.
Elena sat between Rose and Klaus, while both brothers sat on opposite ends of the sofa. They ordered some cocktails, and then Rose opened some discussion.
"We should all go on vacation during the winter break. I was thinking somewhere tropical."
"Like?" asked Klaus.
"Like… Belize!"
"We've been there," said Elijah. "Beautiful country. Though, it's been nearly two centuries since we last sailed near the Caribbean Sea."
Elena sipped on her drink while Klaus caressed her thigh. She kept having to lower his hand whenever he'd reach for inappropriate places. Normally, she's wouldn't mind, but she felt so uncomfortable with the excess PDA around Elijah.
"I think we could all use the break." Rose looked at her date. "What do you say, Elijah?"
He swigged back his drink first. "I believe a vacation would replenishing, especially during the winter season. But if you all recall, we do have a psychopath killer on the loose."
"Taking Elena away from Mystic Falls for a while might be the best thing for her," Rose added.
"Niklaus, how come your warlock has not been able to locate our enemy?"
"Because our enemy is tampering with expression, brother. Need I educate you further about the dark arts? Our mother practically invented it."
Elena felt uneasy knowing that her life was still in danger, but she had Klaus to protect her, and since the attack that happened during the Halloween dance, she hadn't experienced anymore assaults.
"Things have been far too quiet." Elijah zoned out, pondering in his own thoughts.
"Are you anticipating the worst?" asked Klaus.
"One should always anticipate the next move of a nemesis."
"You are the Original family." Rose interjected. "No one can mess with you."
Klaus grinned. "She's right." He raised his glass. "I'll drink to that—cheers!"
The four of them drank and chatted away when the lounge DJ faded a sexy Chris Brown and Usher track "New Flame."
"Oh my God! I love this song!" Elena exclaimed. She was buzzing.
Klaus got up and led his doppelganger girlfriend to the crowded dance floor. They found a clearing underneath a glowing spotlight as Klaus positioned himself behind Elena and pulled her into his big strong arms. She giggled when he grazed his lips against her neck and guided their movement from side to side in rhythm with the music.
Elena locked eyes with Elijah while she danced on Klaus. The Original sat comfortably, one arm stretched out on the sofa, and the other holding a martini, sipping it back while he watched Elena dancing so seductively.
Chris began to sing the chorus.
Standing here looking at each other baby, eye to eye.
And I'm hopin' that you're thinkin' 'bout leavin' with me tonight…
The two of them began to communicate a silent language through their eyes, as they seductively lusted after one another.
Elijah watched the way Elena ran her fingers through her lush long hair, rolling her curvaceous hips side to side, as if she were teasing him.
A hazy fog poured in below their feet, glowing red from the laser lights. Elena closed her eyes and began to fantasize about Elijah dancing behind her.
I just want to be the one to do you right…
Baby try a new thing,
And let's spark a new flame…
When she finally opened her eyes, she saw Rose walking hand in hand with a hot blonde in a tight red cocktail dress, and they were headed toward Elijah. Elena suddenly abandoned Klaus and strutted over to the vampire. On pure impulse, she cupped Rose's face and kissed her passionately on the mouth.
The Hybrid stood behind his girlfriend in shock and semi arousal, and his brother matched his expression. When Elena finally pulled back, Rose compelled the blonde bombshell to leave.
"I have no idea why I did that!" Elena shouted over the music.
"I didn't mind!" Rose grinned. "It was totally hot!" She held Elena's hand and led her back on the dance floor.
The vampire placed her manicured hands on Elena's hips and began to move with the music.
"I've been watching the way you've been eye fucking Elijah!"
"What!" Elena's cheeks went red.
"You were eye fucking him!"
Elena tried to deny Rose's accusations, but her conscience was guilty. She was one hundred percent attracted to Elijah. She had always been attracted to him. What she didn't know was that the Original carried a past full of secrets, darkness; a darkness that he compartmentalized and kept locked away so that he could maintain his "perfect composure."
"It's okay to admit it, Elena! Your secret's safe with me. I promise." Rose hung her arms over Elena's shoulders and pulled her into a kiss. "I'll even seal it with a kiss." She smirked with a wink.
Elena was too drunk and buzzing to even analyze the fact that she was experimenting with bi-curious behavior.

Music was blasting in Jeremy's ears as he walked through a smoke hazed nightclub. Strobe lights were flashing and flickering every half a second, and the dance floor was crowded with sweaty bodies, moving in time with the electro beats. It wasn't any ordinary nightclub. Vaughn appeared next to him with a grin on his face.
"We'll stake the blood suckers later … but for now, let's have some fucking fun!" A hot redhead grabbed his hand and pulled him toward the dancing masses.
Jeremy stood there for a moment, sipping on his rum and coke. Rebekah didn't know that he was here.
Let's face it. You're only here for one reason, and one reason only, so just get it over with, a voice whispered in his head.
There were vampires everywhere feeding on humans. All he had to do was find a dealer that was selling that special cocktail of vampire blood. And it wasn't hard to locate one in places like this.
Katerina Petrova had been at that club that night. And she was still there. She finished downing her drink by the bar as she spotted Jeremy Gilbert, heading straight toward him with an evil vendetta on her mind.
Twenty minutes later…
"Oh God, Jeremy… fuck!"
Heavy breaths, pleasurable groans echoed under a flight of stairs that led to the second level of the club. Kat was pinned against the wall with her legs spread, with her enemy's cock sliding in and out of her. Jeremy was heavily influenced on drugs, alcohol and Katherine's blood. She had managed to seduce him. The most disturbing part was the fact that he was having sex with a woman who looked exactly like his sister (even though she and Elena were not biologically related).
"Cum in me, baby." Katherine bit into her bottom lips so that it bled before she kissed Jeremy. She moaned when he started sucking the blood from the lesion on her lip.
Jeremy had been unfaithful to Rebekah, even though they weren't officially dating, the Original was in love with him. Katherine's plan to ruin Elena's life was officially underway. She knew that the best way to get to Elena was to mess with her family, and Jeremy was first on her list. Kat was a man eater, and she was going to eat that young Gilbert alive. Enabling his addiction was the best way to get him under her thumb. Katherine was conniving like that. She was a real bitch.
