Erik POV

Erik was composing, or at least, trying to. His mind was a cacophony of memories and imaginings. Christine

That damned name had haunted his mind for days

Christine

Right now she was only a matter of minutes away, yet, she had never felt farther.

Christine de Changy...

She was with her husband, and his heart knotted. He imagined her family; giggling children with her russet hair and blue eyes, hugging their mother's knee and pleading for another bedtime story. He gritted his teeth at this sense of ideal normality, that was alien to him, that he craved and hated. He rested his head in his hands

Fool! He screamed at himself you let her go... She was too perfect for you. He tried to swallow past the lump in his throat, past the hole in his heart. This was what he had been broken down to. The malevolent phantom reduced to this by a pretty singer...

Of corse this wasn't the first time Christine had brought him into such a state. Often he had wondered how in hell he had become so addicted to her. How she was the one thing that could make him weep, make him truly smile, make him truly enraged, and make him feel pain like no other.

It's because she saw you as something whole

A voice in faraway in the back of his head whispered that to him.

No she didn't! Another screamed at him she saw your face and ran, she betrayed you!

But then she kissed you the first voice whispered. These voices warred against each other until he slammed his palms against his piano. He needed to busy his mind, music usually did the trick, but today his fingers didn't seem to work. They like where prices of lead, insolently disobeying his commands. He got up and started pacing the room, like a tiger in a cage until his keeper came.

"Oi, Erik I need to talk to you about the set..." Nadir trailed off when he saw Erik standing up "don't" he stated

"Don't what?" Erik replied

"You're thinking about her, don't"

"I'm not" Erik lied

"Well... Don't"

Erik mouth became a thin line as he stalked over to his desk

"What was this about the set" he muttered. Nadir rambled on about colour palettes and debated wether ash or pine would be best until Erik's door flew open

Omid's cheeks and neck were flushed, sweat was beading on his forehead, and his was rasping heavily

"She's gone" he managed to sputter in between pants

"What?" Erik and Nadir asked in unison

"We" pant, "w-were," pant "s-sitting," pant "I-in"

"Omid." Nadir cut him off sternly in Persian "Sit down." His son obeyed and collapsed into a chair opposite Erik's desk.

"How-" Erik tried to ask but was cut off by Nadir

"Let him catch his breath" Erik glared back at him but stayed silent, he knew not to interfere with Nadir and his son. He sighed as Omid continued his metallic breaths. After about thirty seconds Nadir broke the silence

"Now, who is 'gone'?" he asked coolly

"Luna"

"Luna?" Erik cut in "how the hell did you manage to loose a grown woman in a city you know like the back of your hand!?" Erik himself was just as surprised as the others by the anger in his voice.

"We were sitting in the carriage on the way back from the DeChany's, and we stopped, then her door was open and she was gone"

"Then where is she?" He snapped. Omid glared and crossed his arms

"Like hell I know, I've just been running around for the past hour looking for her!"

"Well then you clearly didn't do a very good job! You should have told me as soon as it happened." He retorted

"Stop it you two" Nadir cut in like steel "what are you, middle aged women?"

"oh, how nice of you to get involved in the conversation, or have you forgotten that the most valuable asset of your opera is missing?" Erik growled

"For the love of god Erik, calm down! You're acting like she's an infant! You said yourself she's a grown woman." Omid opened his mouth to protest but Nadir continued before he could be interrupted " Fine, we don't know where she is, but we all know we can take care of herself. So" he breathed " I say we should just wait and see"

"you can't just-" Omid burst before Nadir hushed him with stare

"Yes, we can. She's lived here for what, half a year now? So she knows her way around. If she doesn't appear by tomorrow then we will alert the appropriate authorities, until then Omid go to Ellen's and tell her that Luna will be home late, alright?" Omid nodded silently and moved to leave, but stopped when his father placed a heavy hand on his shoulder "I'm sorry for shouting at you" Nadir muttered quietly.

Omid replied "I'm sorry for getting so…angry" before stalking out the room.

"I've got a meeting with the contractor soon, I'll alert you if I hear anything"

"likewise" Erik muttered before Nadir left the room. Erik glared down at his composition, lifting it up and cleaning tearing it in two. A twisted grin spread on his thin lips and a dry laugh bubbled up from his throat 'shit' he muttered to himself 'it's happening again'

Luna POV

A shiver sprinted up her back, but she made no effort to get warm. Her icy hands seemed to glow blue in the moonlight, as she felt them burning with cold. Her breath came out in ribbons of mist as the moon rose. She knew she would have to get indoors soon, or else she would freeze to death out here. But fear held her a hostage in her own body, a dark beast inside her belly trying to crawl its way out. And all this from those words, she shuddered. And that was when her survival instinct seized control. Her stiff legs tensed as she run her hands up the rough bricks wall behind her and pushed herself up. She stopped and surveyed her surroundings, green ivy appeared black as it crept it's way up crumbling stones in the abandoned house she now sought refuge in. She sighed. It was time. She'd fought against it for so long."I just want a nice, simple life. What's wrong with that?" She muttered as a fresh flow of frozen tears started. She bit her lip until copper blood slapped onto her tongue the metallic taste spurred her on as she started silted steps out of her hiding place. She felt her foot fall onto a shattered bottle; the green glass biting through the thin satin boot at her sole. At least searing pain gave her something to focus on as she limped her way onward. Every step was a battle in a mile long war.

She didn't even remember deciding where to go, she only looked up to see the crystal glass roof of the opera gleaming in the moonlight. She fought up the steps and pushed at the solemn red gargantuan doors. They where locked; of corse, she almost laughed at how cliche it was. But her humour was cut short by the almost silent sound of hinges protesting against one another. She stood up and a sharp hiss of pain escaped through her lips and the gash on her foot screamed. She looked where the door opened and saw a figure moving towards her. The person was unusually tall with long limbs that branched off from his narrow torso, glaring eyes and half white mask glinting on his face. This would have terrified most people with, however Luna was overcome with emotion at the sight of him. Her feet, ignoring the pain, move down the marble steps as fast as they could. But will alone could not break the physical boundaries the gash had caused the affected leg to spasm with pain and she toppled over.

She landed face first in Erik's boney arms, she sat up and looked at him. His skin seem to reflect the moons glow, making his high cheek bones, slanted jaw and strong nose cut like steel through the blackness of the night. This illuminated his golden eyes which where staring intently at her.

"Where were you?" He asked, his voice wasn't angry or annoyed. Just concerned, pure caring for her, she mattered to him, she made a difference to him, he needed and cared for her, just like she did. His face blurred behind a blanket of tears as the started flowing down her face as she buried her face in his chest and wept like a baby. Every breath rasped as she emptied her lungs form. Slow and unsure arms eventually wrapped around her and rubbed her back.

"Shhh" Erik whispered to her in his sliver voice. She shook her head and silvered

"Erik" she trembled "they're here"

"Who?" He questioned

"The circus" she felt Erik shift beneath her "our circus"
