Iz hit my arm causing me to laugh more.
"What? You don't like my jokes anymore?" I questioned. I continued laughing as she glared at me from the back seat. I turned back to the front of the car as Alec turned into the parking garage. He pulled the car into a spot and we were almost immediately greeted by Hodge Starkweather. Our new boss.
Some years ago the three of us myself, Alec and Isabelle has started training with a special agency. I suppose we all got involved with the agency because of our need to avenge Clary. Myself more than the others. I wanted to do right by Clary and if I couldn't help her I wanted to help others.
Hodge motioned for us to follow him into the elevator. He pressed a well worn number nine button. Beside me Isabelle jumped excitedly while Alec and I rolled our eyes. The elevator doors opened leading us into a dimly lit floor. Hodge began picking up speed down the long hallway. We passed door after door. Some rooms were well lit and seemed full of life others were dark and closed off.
"Something seems to have happened." Hodge said while he typed on his phone. "I'll have to give y'all a tour of the building some other time." He continued leading down another set of long and unfamiliar hallways. We stopped at another elevator bank slightly different than the one before.
"These elevators.." He said gesturing to the right. "Will lead you to the lofts and such. You'll have access to any of them whenever needed. But, these.." He pointed to the left. "Lead you straight to the offices." He glanced hurriedly at his watch. " Your teachers office is on floor seven and is office three. I'd love to walk you and introduce you but I have a very pressing matter to attend to." He quickly turned and sprinted back down the hall.
I scoffed making Isabelle and Alec look at me questioningly.
" What?" I asked. " How can anything be more important than me?" I joked. Isabelle rolled her eyes and walked into the elevator muttering under her breath. Alec and I followed her as she pressed the button. The doors opened and Iz walked off ahead of us.
Alec and I walked behind her and as we were mid conversation, Iz stoped abruptly causing me to run into her.
"Damn Iz. Are you ok?" I asked.
She didn't seem to register my question and stayed focused on the door. I turned my head to look where she was looking and inhaled sharply. My eyes ran over the nameplate on the door over and over again. Engraved in the nameplate in beautiful cursive writing was the name Clary F.
"It couldn't be her, could it?" Alec asked. I shook my head.
"No the last name is F Clary's name is G". Even as I said it I didn't believe it. I had only ever met one person named Clary and it was Clary. But, there was no way it could be her, she'd been gone for three years now.
The police had said that she'd been gone too long to be alive. Everyone just gave up after that, anyone who still held on just hurt themselves more. We all still hoped that somehow someway she'd come back but we knew there was no point. I shook my head and went further down the hallway to our teachers door.
About an hour later the three of us ended up back in the elevator. The entire time we were meeting with our teacher I'd been unable to focus. My mind was caught up on Clary. I hadn't really thought to much about her in awhile. It hurt to think of her.
The ride was short with Alec looking at Isabelle and I sympathetically. He had been friends with Clary and he was a major part of our friend group growing up. But, he still wasn't as close with her as Isabelle and I were.
As we left the building we passed one of the rec rooms we saw when we were going up. A large golden retriever was laying in the middle of the room watching a figure dig around in a closet. Something dropped behind the door and paper flew everywhere. A girl emerged from behind the door. My breath caught in my. Isabelle tensed beside me.
The girl had fiery red curls that hung down to her waist. She was dressed in all black with matching black wedges.
"Give me just a second." She called over her shoulder. The girl grabbed the papers and stuffed them into a folder and turned to put them back into the closet. I looked at Iz and Alec right as the girl turned around.
She turned around with a familiar smile on her face and piercing green eyes.
