A/N: The main focus of this chapter was something I mentally worked on since writing the other story. This was probably the most complicated chapter I ever wrote. I did my best for this to make sense so if it doesn't, I apologize. Enjoy!

Chapter 12

Much to Olivia's disappointment, she woke up early as usual. That wasn't her intention for today since she didn't set her alarm last night. But it was the internal clock she had that rarely let her sleep pass a certain time so she wasn't even upset about it. She sat up a little to reach for her cell phone that was on her night stand. After turning it on, she saw there were multiply missed calls and text messages from everyone at OPA, which was expected. Olivia pulled up Harrison's number and called him.

"Liv, are you ok? We've been trying to reach you for the last hour," Harrison said, skipping the formalities.

"Sorry about that. I had my phones turned off." Olivia briefly thought about last night. "Just needed to sleep without any interruption.

"Oh ok," Harrison said relieved. "We are just use to being able to get in touch at any time."

"I understand." Olivia sat up in bed. "Did something happen?" She just realized that he had a bit of urgency in his voice.

"Yeah but it's nothing to worry about. It's just our client screwed up again."

"Crap," Olivia let out under her breath. She knew which client he was referring to. The daughter of a prominent CEO was caught up in an escort scandal. "I'll be there as soon as I can."

"No, get some rest. We can handle it. That's what you've trained us to do right?"

"You're right. I'll be in after twelve. If you need me before then, just call."

"The same goes for you, Olivia."

"Will do, Harrison."

They both hung up. Then Olivia did what her heart has been telling her to do for a week now. She called Jake.

Jake was standing in his bathroom drying his hair off with his towel when he heard his phone ring. He walked into his bedroom and he thought his eyes were playing tricks on him when he saw her name.

"This is the best surprise I've received in a long time," he stated after answering. "Emphasis on the surprise part."

Olivia could tell he was smiling right now and she was doing the same. "Glad I can still keep you on your toes then, Mr. Ballard."

"Oh you've always been great at that Ms. Pope. That's why I'm so attracted to you."

"I'm happy to hear that." They both fell silent as they thought about their week apart. Their problems weren't solved completely yet but this was a start. "Are you busy?"

"No," Jake tossed the towel on the bed and went back into the bathroom. "Just getting dressed for work," he said putting on his boxer briefs.

"I can call you back later if you need me to. I don't want to make you late for work."

"You know you won't be able to do that. Besides, I want to talk to you right now. I don't know when," Jake stop moving around and took a deep breath before continuing, "I'll get to hear your voice again. I also want you to know again that I'm really sorry about everything. If I could take it-"

"Jake," Olivia said cutting him off. Hearing him apologizing like this was making her feel guiltier by the second. "Will you be free this afternoon? I'm ready to talk about it."

Those were the words Jake was waiting to hear. "I am. Umm, you want me to meet you at your apartment once you get off or come by your office?" He wanted to be somewhere she would feel comfortable with.

"Stopping by the office would be better. I have to work a little late tonight."

"Ok, that's fine too. I'll call you when I'm on my way. Have a good day at work," Jake said preparing to hang up.

"I miss you too," Olivia finally said. She wanted him to know that in spite of ignoring his call that day, she still checked the message he left. And she needed him to know the feeling was mutual.

For the first time since everything happened, Jake felt that their relationship would survive after all.

Olivia and Jake were sitting down in the conference room. They sat facing each other and Jake grabbed her hands before he spoke.

"Do you remember what I told you about my father? Concerning his death?

"Of course. He died from a heart attack when you were seventeen years old. You not only lost a father but you're best friend. But how does his death tie into everything?" Olivia asked. She was getting nervous.

"Because I didn't tell you all there was to know about his death." He waited for a reaction where she yelled at him and got upset but neither one happened. "For the first 17 years of life I was led to believe that my father a civilian worker for the military. But it was until he died that I found out her was really a B613 agent and that a heart attack didn't kill him. A mission did.

"Ok," she said quietly. She wanted him to continue because of this made no sense. Especially when that organization didn't allow someone to have a family while they were an active member.

"I had an extremely hard time adjusting to losing my dad and learning that I been lied to for so long. My behavior got out of hand. I argued with my mother over the dumbest things imaginable. I started partying and staying out late for the hell of it. It's a miracle that I even graduated from high school. But it was until I got arrested for stealing a car that my mother had enough with me. She gave me two options. Do the right thing and be the man she and my father raised me to be. Or get out of her house and look forward to not having a relationship with her. I had to do what was right. I could not lose both of my parents in a two and half year time span.

"Well, it looks like her ultimatum worked out," Olivia said processing what Jake had just told her. "Is that why you joined the Navy?"

"No. I joined because the mission I was assigned to almost went south."

Olivia eyes widen in surprise and she pulled her hands away from Jake. "You were in B613."

"Unofficially," Jake said as if that made things any better.

"I really don't think that matters. You were trained assassin at one point and you didn't tell me."

Jake sat up straighter. "I couldn't. Believe me I wanted to. There were just circumstances that prevented me from doing so."

"Oh really? Then why are you able to tell me now?"

"Because that mission is the reason I worked for Mellie. I did it to protect someone."

"Like who? And don't tell me you can give me a name," Olivia said getting more upset with each passing second. "You have all these secrets and I deserve the truth."

"It was Command and I can't tell you anymore than that. He was close to my father so I trusted him. My mom told him what was going on and he took a chance on me. As long as I did what I was told. So I worked for B613 and went to school part time. Things were coming together for me until that mission. Just like Command's name, I can't say what happened on that mission. "But," Jake picked up the black folder from the table and handed it to Olivia, "what you need to know is in here. This is just a copy."

Olivia took the folder and skimmed through the ten pages that were inside. She learned what the mission was, how it was carried out, and the results of it. There was just enough information for Olivia to know what happened.

"Mellie was able to get her hands on this and I did what I thought was best. Olivia, if this had gotten out Command and I would have lost our jobs. There is no telling what other consequences would have come from this."

"I don't think she would have been that stupid to expose this to the world."

"Maybe so but she wanted me to keep you away from Fitz by any means necessary. So there is no telling what she would have done with this."

They both fell silent and just stared at each other. It was all out in the open. No more secrets or lies left. Well, it would have been that way if Olivia wasn't stubborn and possessed some type of self control when she was around Fitz. She knew once she told Jake it would be another obstacle they would have to get past. She hoped like hell that they would be able to.

"Jake there's something…"

"Can it wait?" Jake said interrupting her. "Just for a minute or two. I've wanting to do this again for the longest." He placed his hand on the back of her neck before pulling her into a kiss. A deep and passionate one.

He didn't give her a chance to respond but Olivia was fine with that. She needed this. Where everything was perfect and there was no drama or heartache.

They both heard a knock on the door and Jake reluctantly pulled away.

"Sorry," Olivia whispered to Jake before going to answer the door.

"Sorry to interrupt, Liv," Abby said. "But I got what you were waiting for."

"Good. Just give me a second."

"Yep," Abby replied before leaving.

Olivia walked back over to Jake, who was now standing.

"Gotta go save the world."

"It looks that way. But I rather spend time with you." Olivia wrapped her arms around him and Jake kissed her on the lips.

"Same here but work is more important. So let's get dinner this tomorrow night. Unless it's too soon for you.

"No, it's perfect," she said giving him a smile. "I love you, Jake.

"I love you too, Olivia." He gave her a hug and kissed her on the forehead. "Call me when you get home."

"I will."

A/N: So there you have it. Again, I apologize if it didn't make sense. If you have any questions just let me know because I know it was a little detailed. Anyway, let me know what you thought about the chapter overall. As for Olivia confessing to Jake, the question is not when she does but how Jake reacts to it.
