Chapter 13
Thank you to reviewers, it means a lot that people still care about this story enough to review but don't feel like you have to be nice to me! If someone hates what I'm doing then tell me, hopefully in a nicer way than just 'I hated this chapter, you're an awful writer' but seriously tell me because I'm guessing most of you won't like the end of this chapter and I want to know how much you dislike it.
"Okay, Anna, mummy and daddy are going out tonight so you're going to go to Auntie Brooke's house, can you say Auntie Brooke?" Peyton asked her daughter as she packed her bag for the evening.
Anna just looked at her mother as though she was insane.
"Okay, can you say mama?"
Again Anna didn't seem to appreciate her mother's effort to get her talking because she looked away from her and threw her hands in her face.
"Come on, Anna you have to say mama before dada, us girls have to stick together."
"Peyton, stop trying to influence her, she'll say her first words when she's ready," Lucas said as he entered the room before kissing Peyton on the head.
"Oh, like you haven't been telling her to say dada first," she said dismissively.
Lucas looked sheepishly at her before muttering,"Maybe..."
"I knew it!" She laughed,
"But I think we're both wasting our time, Brooke seems convinced that she'll say her name first and we'll just be an afterthought."
"Well, it wouldn't surprise me with the amount of time she spends spoiling her," Lucas replied.
"Yeah well I think that Auntie Brooke is still feeling guilty, isn't that right, Anna? Isn't mama right?" Anna let out some noise that sounded a bit like 'ba' but it wasn't really recognisable as a word.
"See, she totally knows when I'm talking to her," Peyton said as she sat down on the bed in the room with Anna on her lap.
Lucas sat next to them, "So you still think Brooke feels guilty?"
"Do you think Anna's toy collection would have doubled in the last month if she didn't?" She asked him with her eyebrows raised.
"I guess you're right."
"I just wish I wasn't," she admitted, "I was really hoping that by now everything would be back to normal but I still feel like she's trying to make it up to me or something."
"Maybe she is? I mean she did sleep with your ex-boyfriend who also happens to be the father of your baby."
"I thought we agreed that you were the father of my baby?" She replied with a grin firmly in place.
"You know what I meant," he grinned back.
"I know I'd just rather forget about it though," she told him, "I mean she made a mistake and she's paying for it, there's no point in me punishing her too."
"What like you punished Jake?" Lucas smirked.
Flashback – 1 month ago
"Peyton? What are you doing here?" Jake asked as she pushed past him into his small hotel room.
"I don't know, maybe it's something to do with the fact you slept with my best friend?"
His eyes widened in shock as she carried on speaking.
"Or maybe it's because you blackmailed said best friend into giving you access to me and Anna."
"Peyt... I..."
"Don't even say anything, Jake," she hissed at him, "If you wanted to find Anna then there were a million other ways to do it but you know what? I'm happy that you did it this way because now I have a good enough excuse to stop you from being in Anna's life and give her the father she deserves."
"You can't do that, Peyton," he replied unsurely.
"Actually, I can, you signed your rights away and I only agreed to let you see Anna because I thought it was the right thing to do but you don't seem to care about your daughter at all, you just want to play games and mess my life up."
"Don't flatter yourself, I'd already messed your life up when I knocked you up."
Peyton's hand suddenly flew at him cheek and as it connected with the skin it made a sharp noise that made him wince in pain.
"How dare you talk about your own daughter in that way?" She yelled at him, "I can't believe you think that Anna messed up my life, she was the best thing to ever happen to me."
"So she'll never even know her real dad," he spat at her.
"You clearly don't know what a real dad is, Jake because I think a real dad is someone who looks in awe every time he sees his daughter do something new, someone who has been there through the tough times and kept me sane whenever something goes wrong," she shouted at him with tears in her eyes, "A real dad is someone who would give his life for his daughter without even considering himself; a real dad is someone like Lucas." Those were her final words before storming out of the room leaving Jake standing alone, shocked that his actions would mean that he would never get to see his daughter again.
"Well, he deserved it," she defended herself.
"Oh, I know he did, I just wish I'd been around to see Hurricane Peyton in action."
"Really?" She asked him coyly, "And why would that be?"
"I don't think I should tell you with a baby in the room," he laughed while raising his eyebrows as Peyton looked down at Anna as though she had forgotten she was in the room.
"Fine," she said as she stood up with Anna in her arms before leaning down to whisper in his ear, "Tell me later tonight then."
He could only watch in amazement as she winked at him then walked out of the room her hips swaying as she went.
"Okay, Lucas forgot his phone so if you want to call us then you'll have to call me and she's been teething a lot lately so you have to make sure that she always has something to sooth her gums," Peyton rushed out as she passed Anna to Brooke who was attempting to take in the information.
"She also doesn't like being away from us at the minute, especially, Peyton so she'll probably cry a lot at first but if you just give her the toy panda then she'll calm down," Lucas added.
"Oh, and she likes grabbing things so you have to make sure that anything dangerous is out of reach and definitely keep your phone away from her because she seems to think that phones are toys," Peyton continued.
"Okay, I think I've got it," Brooke laughed at the two of them, "You do realise that the last time I babysat was only last week right?"
"Well, yeah but she's changed so much since then," Peyton said sadly.
"Okay, go now before you decide that you can't cope with being away from her tonight," Brooke said as seriously as she could but she couldn't help the grin that surfaced when she saw the two concerned parents looking longingly at Anna.
"Go," she told them softly, "We'll be fine."
"Okay," Peyton said as she kissed Anna before speaking quietly to Brooke, "You know I wouldn't trust her with just anyone right?" Brooke nodded sadly. "Well, that just shows how much I trust you, okay, B. Davis?"
Again all Brooke could do was nod at Peyton before Lucas took Peyton's hand and led her away from Brooke's front door while waving back at Anna with his free hand.
"Okay, some old guy just started talking to me about the differences between using a fountain pen and a ball point pen, why didn't you tell me all publishers are boring?" Peyton grumbled as she found Lucas alone in a corner.
"Because I thought it would be funny to see you suffer alone with them?" He laughed at her irritated expression.
"That's so unfair!" She protested, "So, while I've been listening to these people go on and on about different types of pens and paper you were sat in a corner laughing at me?"
"Oh come on it can't have been that bad."
"Not that bad? There were some particularly weird guys I was talking to five minutes ago, one was telling me the differences between trains in different parts of the country and the other just couldn't stop talking about planes and helicopters, I'm pretty sure that they were both drunk as well." She slumped in the seat next to him.
"Well, you see they have the right idea." He put his arm around her, "Getting drunk is the only way to get through these events."
"So that's your plan?" She asked him, surprised that Lucas of all people would do this.
"Not anymore, it's what I used to do but I'm a responsible parent now so it's probably not a good idea," he sighed.
"Do you know what is a good idea though?" Peyton smiled as the thought came to her, "Seeing as we're responsible parents we can't leave our baby for too long, in fact we should probably leave sometime in the next ten minutes."
"God, I love the way you think," he laughed as they got up to say goodbye to the important people and gave them an excuse that wasn't entirely true.
Brooke was sat on the floor with Anna; a panda was currently providing the entertainment for the seven month old.
"You really are teething a lot more aren't you, Anna?" Brooke asked the baby as she wiped the drool from around her mouth.
"You probably think I'm crazy because you can't understand what I'm saying can you? I'm just crazy Aunt Brooke who just talks to herself all the time," Brooke chattered as Anna looked at her curiously, "But you know what would make me less crazy? If you would say something back."
Anna clapped her hands and giggled.
"How is that funny?" Brooke asked the baby who just carried on giggling furiously.
"You are one weird kid," Brooke laughed at her before hearing the doorbell. "Is that mummy and daddy? They weren't supposed to pick you up until tomorrow morning, we'll just have to tell them to come back later won't we?"
When Brooke opened the door she was expecting to see Lucas and Peyton wanting their daughter back because they missed her too much, what she actually saw was very different.
"Do you think we should get Anna from Brooke's? I feel guilty for leaving her there when there's no reason that she can't be here with us," Peyton asked as she and Lucas entered the house.
"I'm sure she'll be fine, Anna loves Brooke and Brooke loves Anna." He spun her round so they were facing each other.
"But we were..," she protested before being cut off by Lucas.
"Okay how about a compromise?" Lucas asked as she looked sceptically at him. "What about if we let Anna stay at Brooke's tonight we have a family day tomorrow, we could take her to the zoo or something. "
"We take her out every Sunday anyway," Peyton pointed out. "I know but tomorrow we'll go somewhere different and I'll get her the biggest stuffed animal in the place."
"I'm sure she's going to love drooling all over it the whole of next week," she laughed before she heard the familiar sound of her phone ringing. She answered it quickly, expecting it to be Brooke telling her that Anna wouldn't stop crying or something like that.
"Hello."
"Hello, is this a Miss Peyton Sawyer speaking?"
"Um yes, who is this?"
"You were listed as the emergency contact for Brooke Davis, is that correct?"
"Yes, is she okay?"
"I'm sorry to inform you that Miss Davis was in a car accident, she is now on her way to the hospital with the other people in the car."
"Was there a baby in the car?" The panic was evident in her voice as she held on to Lucas like her life depended on it.
"Um, yes there was but we haven't been able to identify her yet."
"Her name is Anna Sawyer, she's my daughter, is she okay?" She tried to regain composure and be strong for Anna but on the inside she felt like she was falling apart.
"I'm not sure, all I've been told is that everyone from the car including Brooke Davis, your daughter and Jake Jagielski have been taken to the hospital and that two of them are in critical conditions, I'm not sure who though."
"Jake Jagielski?" she asked in confusion.
"Yes, that's what I have here, I'm sorry, miss but you need to get to the hospital as soon as soon as possible."
Okay don't hate me but I have a really bad problem where I like to kill characters off so that means that yes somebody in the car will die or maybe even two people. Who you might ask? Well there would be no point in the cliff hanger if I told you so you'll just have to read the next chapter to find out. But leave reviews to tell me your opinions and your guesses on who dies, the only other person who knows is my cousin so it's a pretty well kept secret, even SpanaHana doesn't know although I did tell her one person who wouldn't die if she remembers :P
