Everyone wants Jack today, fine :D *takes out a knife and sharpens it*….wait no! Jack don't run away Q_Q I just wanna give you lots of hugs….lol
Stop and stare, I think I'm moving but I go no where, yeah I know that everyone gets scared. I've become what I can't be. Stop and stare, you start to wonder why you're here, not there. And you'd give anything to get what's fair, but fair ain't what you really need. Do you see what I see?
"I think I'm really just missing something." Jack said, his husky voice barely just above a whisper, hearing this was enough to make shudders race down her spine. She held back a gasp when Jack took her by surprise, sliding his arm around her waist and pulling her closer to him. As if by instincts, she shut her eyes, almost afraid to know what might happen next. Her mind grew frantic; she didn't know what to do or what to say at all. she felt his cold breath brush against her cheek, welcoming her like a cold winter's breeze, sending her heart hammering painfully in her chest, pulsing with every heavy breath she took. This was wrong, this was very wrong.
Yet it felt so right.
The next moment she forced her eyes open and found her face only a mere inch away from Jack's. His maple gaze bored into his, causing everything around them to dissipate and her thoughts to race. Their gazes were locked on each other's, neither of them speaking as if they didn't need any words to understand each other, neither of them moving. All this silence was making her anxious, she wanted to make the first move, but her thoughts suddenly stilled and came into realization. No. she told herself. There was still enough time to pull away and maybe tell him that she wasn't ready for all of this yet, but Jack beat her to it.
Before she got the chance to open her mouth to speak, Jack's hands moved from her waist up to brush a stray lock away from her face, while his other hand moved to cup her cheek, keeping her steady. She shut her eyes again and just waited, waited until their lips finally met. This time she really didn't know what to do. As much as she was urged to just push Jack away, she kept her hands clutched tightly onto the pleats of her skirt.
Warmth
That was all she could feel. Suddenly a feeling of longing burned her heart. She's never felt so safe in someone's arms before. She had long forgotten what it's like to me loved. Her parents were gone centuries ago, surely the guardians kept her great company but it felt nothing like this.
Her face flushed redder than it already was when Jack's hands parted from her cheek and moved to thread his fingers through her hair. For once she lets her heart breath louder than her head. She gripped Jack by the collar and further closed the gap between them. Her thoughts fully drowned out, leaving only the sound of her racing heart pounding in her head. She wrapped her arms around his neck tightly, kissing him back.
At a moment like this she should have been enraptured with bliss, but instead her stomach was knotted up with dread. What is she doing?
He did not plan for this.
He did not even know what to say to her to begin with.
Today just felt so different, like it was his last chance to tell her how much she means to him, although he didn't know exactly what to tell her without sounding too sappy, and so he tried the boldest move he's ever made in his like.
Seeing her slightly dubious look made him want to recoil, fearing her might scare her off with the suddenness like Pippa said, but he pulled her close anyway, willing to take the risk.
From there things seem to move naturally on its own and he soon found himself with an armful of Tooth kissing him back. Now he really didn't know what would go next, he just held her tightly, letting the hand around her waist make its way up to her shoulders until his fingers finally settle on threading through her soft hair.
The kiss got more intimate at every pacing heartbeat.
A small smile crept on his lips, along with a blush that seem to etch further across his cheeks when he felt Tooth's arms around his neck. Jack ravished her, breathing in deeply her sweet scent of wildflowers. All he could think of was her, even that bitterly cold feeling in his heart enlightened and blazed with affectionate warmth.
Neither of them wanted to let go, even though time felt frozen, eventually they had to and when they did, Jack found Tooth's eyes still fixed with his, reflecting the speckles of sunlight like amethyst gem stones.
Her face was glowing red with a blush, he imagined himself looking the same way, possibly even worse than that.
He wanted to say something, but there seemed to be nothing it say.
It was all just sparks.
Soon Tooth tore her gaze away from him and rested her head on his shoulder, both falling into a seemingly comfortable silence.
Until Tooth suddenly voiced out her thoughts unwillingly "are we like….a thing now?" she squeaked, immediately wanting to slap herself for that.
Jack shifted and slid an arm around her shoulder, pulling her closer to him again. "I don't know, what do you think?" he said with a hint of playfulness in his tone, planting a kiss on the crown of her head, making her blush deeper. Her words got caught in her throat, the best she could do was just smile at him.
"I think we are" she managed to say in a quivering voice, even though her mind was trying to stop her. "I just have one question" she added.
Jack cocked his head at her, still with that playful smile present. "What is that?"
"Do you…..write letters?"
Jack quirked a brow at her "Yeah….a long time ago when I was still a child….why, what made you ask?"
"I don't know….I just enjoy writing letters that's all." she answered, wrapping her arms around herself. "We should get ready for class; you don't want to be late again do you?"
'Where are you heading?" they both stop at the split of the hallway, where Jack would be heading straight down the hallway for history class and Tooth would be taking a turn to go to the bathroom. "I just need to go wash up a little, why don't you go to class first? I'll be back"
"Uh….alright"
"Okay, see you there" she spun around quickly and disappeared down the other hallway, while Jack just stood watching her go before turning around to leave himself.
He absently wonders if he really did scare her away just like Pippa said.
Toothiana slammed the doors of the bathroom and dropped her things beside the door frame, panting heavily as she made her way towards the mirrors.
Luckily there was no one there to hear her cry out in frustration.
She gripped a handful of her hair and let out a frustrated growl before flicking the faucet open to splash water onto her face. This wasn't supposed to happen. None of this was supposed to happen.
But this was her choice, she could have stopped it if she wanted to but she didn't. She could always just write letters to Jack when they leave. He may not see her again, but at least it is for the best. They could still be friends and Jack would still have her in his memory. He would soon find somebody else and forget about her over time, just like how they always do, though Tooth was ready to deal with another grief. When Jack eventually….passes, she'll be ready….ready for another grief that would aggravate her for the rest of her life.
The tears began to sting her eyes, blurring her vision. She blinked, causing the hot tears to slide down her cheeks, then she wiped them away furiously with the back of her palm.
She snapped her head up to face herself in the mirror, but then suddenly she saw something glimmer green in her hair. Warily she reached a hand and fingered away a few strands. What she saw made her gasp in horror.
A feather growing out between her brown locks near her ears
"No…" she murmured and leaned in for a closer look. "Is the spell wearing off already?" she asked silently and tilted her hands around slowly, studying them. Then she turned around and craned her neck to look back at her reflection.
Thankfully there weren't any signs of feathers or any wings.
But why was there a feather appearing? Was their time in the mortal world almost over?
She tucked a loose lock of her hair behind her ears, careful to conceal the feather away. Had the feather been there when Jack ran his hands through her hair?
Meanwhile Jack was sitting in the desk at the other end of the room, his fidgeting, feeling uncomfortably colder than they usually were. He looked at the door for almost the fifth time since he arrived, expecting Tooth to barge in suddenly, but she never came.
He leaned back onto his chair and threw his head back to stare up at the ceiling, wondering if he really did scare Tooth off this time.
On the far end of the room, Sandy was going on with his lesson, expressing his words through his silent gestures, while the rest of the class seemed to doze off in the thick and heavy silence that drifted above them.
The door slowly creaked open with protesting hinges that sounded even louder through the heavy silence and Tooth just poked her head in with a faltering smile and nodded at Mr. Sanderson before she slipped inside and settled herself on the empty desk beside Jack.
Jack tilted his head playfully to look at her, but she seemingly refused to meet his gaze, looking a little nervous. The teen silently plopped down in his seat and just stared at the gathering clouds in the sky. He really did scare her off.
What directed his attention back to the room was the hand that slowly crept over to meet his. He looked down under his desk and found Tooth's fingers slowly interlacing with his. He looked back at her and smirked, and she finally met his gaze and gave him a nervous smile. Strangely her eyes didn't hold that same shine, but they were still bright and glimmering under the raying sunlight.
He finally relaxed and heaved a sigh of relief, his hand tightening around hers absently. It all felt so natural, like they have been at this for so long, but somehow nothing can seem to assuage that odd feeling pestering at his chest.
The weekend passed so quickly and uneventful, Jack didn't even need an alarm to rouse him since he was practically startled awake by his sister bouncing up and down his bed. "Come on Jack, wake up! Have you forgotten?" she whined, her voice shrill with excitement.
"No, do you expect me to forget with all your annoying reminders," he stated, sounding more like a groan and slung his arm over his eyes to block away the sunlight. "What time is it anyway?"
"It's 6:30"
"Go back to sleep"
"But Jack" Pippa whinged again and proceeded to shake him awake. "I have been waiting so long; I can't go back to sleep….I couldn't even sleep last night."
"Fine," the teen abruptly sat up with a playful smirk, nearly causing the girl to fall off the edge if he hadn't been holding onto her waist "Get dressed"
"I'm already dressed, see?" she said, pointing at her scarf.
"Then wait for me down stairs."
"Yes!" Pippa cheered as she practically hopped of the bed and skipped merrily towards the door, but before she disappeared into the halls she turned around to give Jack a smile and he happily returned the smile, feeling a pang strike him hard in the chest. Why did it feel like it was the last time he'll even see that smile again?
He should have known better, it was almost Easter and the ice was to thin. He wanted to tell Pippa to wait until next winter, but she seems to have waited so long already.
And so they got on the ice, with Pippa wobbling a couple of times on the way to the center. Everything seemed to be going well and the ice seemed to be sturdy enough to hold them both.
Pippa still smiled, even though her bright grin was constantly ruined by scowls whenever she hobbled on the ice, but nonetheless her heart was fluttering with joy.
She got the hang on it after a few tries, she was still hobbling, but at least she knew how to glide around by herself.
Jack began to relax, his shoulders sagging slightly as he watched her glide around, farther and farther from him, almost reaching the other side of the lake. Jack was about to, but then suddenly he heard a crack.
It made him panic. He watched Pippa as she slowly spun around to face him with fear-filled eyes, webs of cracks beginning to appear on the ice beneath her.
Jack just heaved in a breath and stared back at her, trying to look calm despite the fear welling in his heart. His feet were bare to prevent him from slipping whenever Pippa's weight was on him, and now the ice just seemed colder all of a sudden.
"Jack…." She began, unable to move, her eyes already filling with tears. "I'm scared"
"It's okay, it's okay, don't look down just look at me" he cooed, trying to sound level-headed, but the quiver in his voice betrayed him a little.
"But Jack…I'm scared" she said again, her voice barely above a whisper.
"I know" he was scared to, but he didn't want to frighten her even more. He took a step forward, but more cracks began to appear on his side as well. He bit his lip hesitantly, unsure of what to do now. "But you're gonna be alright" he continued, in spite of the panic attack beginning to build inside him. "You're not gonna fall in, we're gonna have a little fun instead."
"No we're not!" Pippa practically hollered as a stray tear slips down her cheek.
"Would I trick you?"
"Yes! You always play tricks!" she snapped and Jack forced out a chuckle, in hope to keep her calm. "Well not this time, I promise, you're gonna be fine." he's always sworn to protect her, and now it was exactly what he's gonna do. "You have to believe in me"
He added and shot a sidelong glance at the other side of the lake. The ice on that side seemed to be thicker, if only he could find a way to haul her there….
"You wanna play a game" his maple eyes suddenly lit up with the joy it had left. "Then we're gonna play hopscotch, like we used to play everyday."
Pippa's eyes just remained locked on his without giving him a proper answer.
"Come on" he beckoned. "It's as easy as one" he took a step sideways, ignoring how the ice beneath him began to creak. "Two" he took another step, tumbling comically as he did and she laughed, and it made Jack's smile grow wider. At least he was able to hear her laugh. "Three" he made it to the other side, where the ice was sturdy enough, and there was a stick that seemed long enough to reach Pippa lying on the thick surface of the ice "Now it's you're turn" he told her, reaching for the stick. "One" he began to count and without second thought she glided forward.
"That's it, that's it" he murmured, holding out the wooden stick a little. "Two" she took another step forward and the ice beneath her trickled with even more cracks. She gasped in horror.
"Come on, come on. Three!" he yelled with the suddenness that made Pippa jerk herself forward to him, immediately Jack hooked the wooden stick around her waist and hauled her over to the other side, recklessly flinging himself back to where the ice was thinnest.
Pippa propped herself up to smile at Jack, and he returned that smile warmly.
It was the last thing he saw, before a loud crack deafened his hearing, then everything went black.
This chapter was inspired by the song "Stop and Stare" by One Republic again
Completely lack of angst -_- I know I'm sorry, the last part was a bit rushed. My Christmas break has long began like a week ago and I'm still not getting anything finished since my mom keeps dragging me out to places I hardly have time to write anymore.
There will be more angst next chapter, and yeah, Jack is dead, are you guys happy not?
When I teach people how to ice skate (yeah, I can skate, but I'm real horrible at it XD) I always end up slipping when someone puts their weight on me, I haven't tried going barefoot on the ice (it will probably give me Frostbite) but being barefoot on the ice helps you balance, which is probably why Jack is barefoot when he was teaching his sister how to skate (and the fact that he doesn't like shoes)
Jrarulez: uh, actually, Jack is not a spirit yet, he only died once, which is right now XD
Sol's Darkness: oh yes, after twelve long chapter he finally dies XD oh gosh I didn't realize I've made you all wait so long for that O.o
IceChild and ThePuppetMaster: You are welcome ;)
Caithlin13: YAY a hug XD I'm glad you think it's a great chapter :D
RJguzman318: things are gonna be complicated from here *evil grin*
LoverofJack: yup, Frozen was good, but I'm still so attached to this fandom XD
Book girl fan: I'm sure it's already out it you're country ;) watch it, there's a big twist towards the end.
Malica15: THERE, JACK IS DEAD, ARE YOU HAPPY NOW? Lol technically he is not dead yet….he's just dying….
By the way guys, I'm temporarily putting this story on hiatus (again -_-) because I'm trying to finish my other story "Winter Solstice" don't worry, it wouldn't be longer than my regular updates (since my regular updates take forever anyway) there are only a few chapters left in Winter Solstice so…it wouldn't take long.
Put this story on hiatus when Jack is dying…..I'm horrible right?
