Ciel stubbornly ignored the tapping at his window. He just knew it was Sebastian throwing seeds at his window to get his attention. He refused to have anything further to do with that jerk. How absolutely humiliating! That absolute bastard! He knew those girls had been watching them and he had let Ciel make a fool of himself. Tears of angry, miserable humiliation threatened to spill. Further infuriated with himself he burrowed deeper into the darkness of his bed.
Ciel wasn't one for displaying his emotions. At best he would display his distant ones, the ones that could not be perceived as weakness; anger, irritation, pride, indifference. However affection and curiosity were far more dangerous, they smacked of a lack of self-control and insecurity.
Gradually Ciel became aware that the tapping had stopped. Sebastian had probably stopped throwing and would be waiting for him to open the curtains to see why he had stopped. Well he knew how that con artist of a Casanova thought and Ciel would not fall for it. However as the sun light behind his curtains began to disappear, Ciel's curiosity began to get the better of him.
Could Sebastian really have stopped bugging him? Cautiously Ciel pulled a corner of his curtains to one side, half expecting Sebastian to be staring at him through his open window with that ridiculous shit eating grin. Sure enough Sebastian's window was open, and his curtains drawn to each side, making the absence of Sebastian all the more conspicuous.
However this was not what had Ciel attention. Ciel pulled his curtains back fully. Attached to his window, flapping in the cooling evening breeze was a sheet of paper tenuously stuck to the window?
Scrawled in bright red over it was a message: "Please don't throw me away". Ciel first impulse was to throw the paper away. But then his curiosity got the better of him. How had Sebastian got the paper stuck on his window? It was highly unlikely that he had actually used a ladder; the space and angle the ladder would have had to be at would have been too awkward. And now that he took a closer look the paper had been loosely stuck to his window, it could easily have blown away. Carefully he opened his window and lightly tugged the paper free. Withdrawing his hand he noticed writing on the back. Before he really had a chance to register what he was doing he had flipped the paper over and begun the read it.
"Firstly, I'm really sorry. I honestly didn't know those girls were there. I don't know how long they were there. I only saw them when you got off me. You've got to believe me." Ciel raised a sceptic eyebrow, as if anything Sebastian had done so far should prompt him to believe him.
"I really didn't know they were there. I really thought no one else would actually be around at that time." A disbelieving snort left the reader, before his eyes moved onto the next part. "Secondly, I'm sorry if what I said made it seem like I set out to embarrass you. I was so surprised and embarrassed that they saw us that I tried to play it off by acting like a flirt. I guess it backfired right? I must seem like a complete jerk to you now."
Well that really hasn't changed Ciel opinion of Sebastian; the guy was already a jerk, he was just a bigger jerk now.
"But I guess if you've read this far you're willing to give me another chance or at least hear me out. So thirdly, I guess I have to apologize for setting you up." Ciel felt his smouldering anger re-ignite. But before he had a chance to act on his anger, his eyes had already moved onto the next sentence.
"Wait, wait! Before you throw this away let me explain! That first time we knocked into each other was a complete accident, but it was the first time you acknowledged me since that time on the train. That gave me the idea to keep bumping into you till you started talking with me again or at least acknowledged me." Impatiently Ciel tapped his foot. Really he was supposed to believe he was important enough to Sebastian that he would go out of his way to try to talk to him. Wasn't the only reason he harassed Ciel was because he was convenient?
"The second time was just a good opportunity for me so I took it. You know that was one of the few time you've looked at me. I mean, really looked. Sure you see me, but you've never looked at me as me. It's as if you're seeing something else." A look of consternation crossed over the young man's face.
"But the third time was completely planned by me. It went further than I intended. I just wanted you to trip over me so I could catch you. I really enjoyed being able to hold you that second time, even if you crashing into me was rather painful. I thought maybe if I couldn't get you to take me seriously by demonstrating how I feel about you, I'd be able to get through to you if I showed you more directly by holding you, because I really think I love you."
Ciel felt an awkward lukewarm wave of some nameless emotion seep down through his chest, felt his heart speed up just a fraction of a second, his breath suddenly catching in his throat. He didn't have to look at the paper to know what would be written there.
"So give me a chance to prove it. Will you go out with me?"
