Chapter 12
A messenger finch found Susan her parents and her uncle aunt and cousin eating a tense lunch in the Great Hall.
"My Lady Queen, King Peter and General Orius have arrived the Healers require you in the Hospital Wing." Susan was out of her seat in a flash while Mrs. Beaver could be heard telling the others to stay put for the moment.
Susan entered the Hospital wing to see her brother and brother in law laying on beds.
"What has been done about their wounds?" Susan asked as she donned an apron and grabbed a basin of warm water and a cloth to bathe Peters face.
"We've cleaned them out and have made poultices we were waiting for your say so to give them the Cordial." Susan nodded absently then turned to get more water and a new cloth to take care of Orius.
"Give them the Cordial and monitor them." The Healer curtsied and got the little bottle of Cordial that Lucy had poured out from her diamond bottle.
The Cordial was renewed every Christmas and on Lucy's birthday as needed and they were all thankful for that.
"Majesty these wounds don't seem to be made by a blade they are too clean even for a dwarf made blade!" cried on of the healers.
Susan looked up her expression troubled.
"Then what could have possibly made them?"
No one could answer her.
Great Hall.
Helen couldn't eat another bite she was worried for Peter and Orius, though she didn't know her son in law well he was Serenas husband and as such he was family. Edmund and Serena were missing and no one could tell them what was happening.
A finch fluttered into the room.
"My Lords and Ladies, Queen Susan requests your presence in the Hospital Wing. I am to take you to her." They all got up and even Alberta seemed to be relieved that the tense uncomfortable meal was over.
They made their way to the hospital wing and as they got closer they heard loud male voices and one calm female one.
The finch sighed.
"Is it always like this Mr..?"
"Milo ma'am just Milo, King Peter and General Orius are always stubborn when they are injured. Queen Susan know how to deal with them if she sounds calm now she wont be in…"
It was like an explosion of sound as Susan began screaming at her brother an the general in Gaelic.
Helen chewed her lip flinching as her middle daughter screamed profanities at Orius and Peter in Gaelic.
John stifled a laugh his four girls in a temper were terrifying especially when they began screaming in Gaelic he was glad Susan wasn't screaming at him right now.
"Maybe I shouldn't have taught them Gaelic and let them spend so much time with Grandpa McBride… I know that's where they got the swearing from…"
The doors burst open and Susan stormed out looking nothing like the dove she had been named.
"Please mother talk some sense into Peter before I tie him to an archery target and use him for practice!" Susan snapped in Gaelic.
"Of course dear go calm down and I'll to both of them how does that sound?"
Susan nodded and sighed rubbing her head.
"Thank you I'm going out to the archery ranges again if you need me." Susan walked off grumbling beneath her breath.
In a Dungeon with Serena and Edmund.
As the door opened Serena and Edmund tensed as two guards and a tall thin man walked in. The thin man looked at Serena and Edmund an un-holy glee filling his eyes.
"Well…well look at what we have here the Warrior Queen and the Black Prince." He whispered his voice oily and cold.
"Who are you." Edmund demanded in a hard voice.
"Why little Prince don't you remember me? I was there when you were a guest of her Majesty Queen Jadis."
Serena saw the color drain from Edmunds already pale face and cursed to herself. Would Edmund never be free of that witch?
"She was no Queen she was a usurper to the Throne." Serena spat and the tall man smacked her so hard her head hit the wall. Serena moaned slumping that blow had not helped her head in any way.
"LEAVE HER ALONE!" Edmund bellowed lunging forward and rattling his chains.
"Anyway my name is Mulligan, I was her majesty's advisor."
"I do not recall any Mulligan." Edmund growled.
"Of course you don't her Majesty hid me so that I would not be found if she should fall to that accursed Aslan."
Mulligan smirked and smoothed his hand over Serenas hair.
"Such beautiful sisters you have Edmund." Edmund snarled wordlessly and lunged again before being jerked painfully back by the chains.
"Leave her alone…" He growled again panting with exertion.
"Really Edmund, don't you want to know why I'm doing this?"
Edmund looked at Serena, he noticed that her eyes were glazed with pain but she seemed aware enough because she gave a tiny unnoticed nod.
"Ok why are you doing this and who was that child in the village of Moorland?"
"Child oh there was no child Edmund that was just a very good illusion made to draw you in."
"As to why I'm doing this I assume you are smart enough to figure that out."
"Revenge you slaughtered that Village because you knew we would come out to find who had done it." Mulligan laughed
"Oh that village was fun, and hurting your brother and brother in law was the best part of all."
That just made Edmund angrier. He wanted free himself and get his hands on Mulligan.
Rear Guard.
Lucy sighed gritting her teeth, she wanted to find whoever had taken Serena and Edmund and well the rest would sort itself out.
"My Queen!" Lucy looked up as they entered Moorland Village.
"Lord Peridan any news?"
"No my Queen it's seems as though King Edmund and Queen Serena have vanished."
Lucy bit her lip worry for her siblings gnawing in her gut.
"Any news on King Peter and General Orius?"
"When I left they hadn't arrived yet we must have passed each other without noticing but I wouldn't worry those two are strong and stubborn." Lord Peridan nodded but couldn't help but look worried.
Hospital Wing
Peter stared at his mother as she gazed at both himself and Orius sternly.
"I understand that you two are concerned about Serena and Edmund, but that does not mean you can put your health in jeopardy you wouldn't be helping them any if you collapsed on the search for them." Helen scolded with her hands on her hips.
She was saying the same thing that Susan had said but somehow coming from her it made it through the two men's hard heads.
They glanced guiltily at each other.
"We have to find them!" Peter said agitatedly.
"I know that Peter Thomas Pevensie, and that is exactly what Lucy is doing right now she is out looking for them with the rear guard."
"But we…" Helen held up a hand.
"Peter listen to me, you too Orius I may not be your mother but I am your mother in law, and I doubt your mother would begrudge me what I am about to tell you."
The two men glanced at each other.
"Peter I know your worried Serena and Edmund are your sister and brother and Orius I understand why you're worried too you love Serena and Edmund is your brother in law, but you must let yourselves heal they wouldn't want you to hurt yourselves for them."
"She is right my friend Serena and Edmund need us at our best." Orius sighed he hated it when he couldn't be with Serena or one of the others when they were in danger.
Dungeon
Edmund twisted trying to get free cursing in pain as the muscles in his arms were pulled painfully.
"Eddy, stop you're just going to hurt yourself." Serena whispered.
"We have to get out of here Serena." Edmund said shortly.
"I know Eddy but hurting yourself wont get us out of here.
"It's been awhile since you called me Eddy,Renie."
Serena shivered her head still hurt and it was hard to concentrate. As she drifted a memory once long forgotten drifted into her consciousness.
Flashback
Edmund had been about four, it was Christmas time and the family had gone to church for midnight mass. Edmund had wondered off. Terrified the family had looked for him everywhere despairing when they couldn't find him.
Suddenly out of the darkness walked Edmund and a man.
The man was tall his hair was like gold, his eyes a dark green and his smile warm and gentle.
"Hello, I believe this young one belongs to you."
Her dad had steppe forward picking Edmund up gently.
"Thank you Mr…"
"Aslan my name is Aslan, and there is no need for thanks I delight in helping those lost get back to those who love them."
"Aslan, thank you again…" Her mother looked around both of her parents had been confused because just as suddenly as he appeared he, Aslan had gone.
"What a strange man." Helen murmured as she reaffirmed her grip on Lucy's hand.
"Nuh uh!"
"What Lucy?" John looked at his youngest.
"A lion mummy! He was a lion!"
Helen and John laughed.
"Oh Lucy you have such an imagination." Helen said fondly as they made their way home.
End of Flashback.
Serena opened her eyes.
"Aslan's always been there for us…even before we knew him."
Serena knew that everything would be ok; they had Aslan on their side.
