Inner Wolf – Chapter 13
"You've been the one killing people." Skylar said out loud as she wrapped her arms around herself and continued to cry.
"Only those who deserved it, for what they did to my family… for what they did to me." Peter said, as he motioned to his scarred face.
"Oh my god." She breathed out wiping tears from her cheeks.
As he slowly walked in a circle around her as if he were circling his prey he said, "Do you have any idea how rare of occurrence someone like you is?
"Someone like me?" She asked as she felt the pockets of her scrubs but her phone was missing.
Nodding he continued, "At this point, you're not entirely human… and not entirely a werewolf… so where does that leave you?"
She didn't respond.
"With an incredible opportunity." He mysteriously continued.
"I… I don't understand, what do you want with me?" She cried.
"Isn't it obvious? I want you in my pack, along with your brother." He answered as he stopped circling her.
"But you just said…" she cried, shaking her head back and forth.
"Oh my god, you're going to turn me…" she continued to sob, her body shaking from her cries.
"A pack is only as strong as it's individual members… you have no idea how strong you could be. A werewolf with shape shifting abilities… able to move quicker than any other beta wolf. Honestly, even I'm not sure of your full potential." He said.
"You wouldn't be a slave to the full moon; you could turn at any time on your own will. You just have to take the first step." He explained.
Her head hurt from trying to understand what he was telling her.
"Your transition will be complete after you force yourself to turn." He said.
"No… I don't want to." She argued.
"The alternative is death, Skylar." He warned his voice gruff.
She looked around, deciding that there was another alterative; to run.
Taking a deep breath she took off running, but didn't make it far before he grabbed her from behind, stopping her with an arm around her neck.
Gasping for air she tried to pull his arm from her throat, but it was useless.
Just then she felt a terrible, sharp pain in her side and immediately her clothes started to saturate with blood.
More tears poured down her face as she realized she'd been stabbed, blood poured from the deep puncture wound; she was feeling weaker by the second.
"force yourself to turn, and you will heal. But if you don't… you'll bleed out." He said as he let go of her and her body crumpled to the ground.
Instinctively she put a hand over the wound, only to have more blood run in thick streams between her fingers.
She gasped for air and coughed violently as she tried to breathe through the pain.
Doing the best she could she managed to scoot away from him as he wiped the blood from the knife on a shirt he'd pulled from her work bag.
"Hear that? Sounds like we've got company…" He said as he focused on listening to the voices in the distance.
Her eyes widened as she heard Sherriff Stilinski's voice.
As Peter turned and started to walk away, she coughed and in a weak, pained voice said, "Where are you going?"
"I wonder how your friend will get along without a father." He stated.
"No! Stop! Please don't hurt him!" Skylar tried to yell, but her voice was raspy and Peter was already out of sight.
Flipping over onto her back she stared up at the moon and considered that she was really going to die alone and cold in the middle of the woods.
Images of her friends and memories flashed through her mind as she gasped for air and felt herself starting to slip away.
Her eyes started to close, but then opened them as she remembered the conversation she'd had with Stiles when he'd thanked her for helping his dad the night he'd been hit by a car.
She remembered the pained look in her friend's eyes as he'd said he wouldn't know what to do if he lost his dad too.
Forcing a deep, painful breath into her lungs she let out a deep growl as her eyes began to glow yellow.

'We found a body… looks like the cause of death was, fire. He was burned to death.' An officer said over the radio.
Stopping next to a large tree Sherriff Stilinski used his radio, with the microphone attached to the shoulder of his uniform as he said, "All's clear over here, I'm heading back."
Moments after he finished talking, something hit him hard and knocked him to the ground.
"Stop! Police!" He yelled as he could hear someone moving, but it was too dark to see in the shadows of the dark woods.
He drew his gun and tried to listen for the direction of the sounds, but he couldn't tell where his attacker was.
"Who's there?" He asked, as he tried to radio for help, but he'd landed on top of the box attached to his belt and the radio was busted.
"oh, damn it." He muttered as he held his gun with one hand and tried to feel around on the ground for his flashlight, hoping it would still work.
He could hear footsteps getting closer, just as he felt the metal handle for the flashlight.
His breathing was uneven from fear, he had no idea who was sneaking up on him, but he could distinctly hear footsteps.
"Come on…" He whispered under his breath as he repeatedly smacked the light, trying to get it turn back on.
Hearing something right behind him he froze then became even more uneasy when he heard a growl and saw a pair of glowing yellow eyes.
Hitting his flashlight again, he gasped in surprise as the light beam showed that the eyes belonged to a wolf with beautiful shiny, black fur.
It's head was lowered and it's teeth showing as it growled furiously.
He raised his gun, but the noticed the wolf wasn't looking at him but past him, it's gaze was fixated on something else.
He wanted to turn around but, wasn't about to take his eyes off the animal.
Just then he heard leaves move behind him and before he had the chance to react the wolf jumped over him and he could see the wolf in hot pursuit of man a fleeing the scene.
Quickly he scrambled to his feet and chased after them.
He saw the man jump into the river, followed the wolf. But once he made it to the water, there was no sign of either of them.
Slowly and staying alert he made his way back in the direction he'd came, stopping as he saw a knife laying on the ground directly behind where'd he'd been laying.
It occurred to him that a wolf had just saved his life.
As he found his way back to where everyone else in the department was, he saw Stiles starting to uncover the body on the stretcher.
"Stiles, what are you doing here?" he asked.
Spinning around Stiles looked at him with watery eyes as he pulled his dad in for a hug; he'd thought the worst when no one would talk to him at the scene.
"What's wrong?" He asked his son, as he returned the warm embrace.
"I'm just glad you're okay." Stiles answered honestly.
"I'm fine, son." He replied as they let go of each other.
"What?" Stiles asked, seeing a confused expression on his father's face.
"I just had the damnedest thing happen… I think someone was going to attack me in the woods, but something scared him off." He admitted, not wanting to worry him further, but still shocked about what he'd seen.
"Something?" stiles squeaked out.
"A wolf." The Sherriff finally admitted.
"Something that… sounded like a wolf?" Stiles asked him.
"No, Stiles… an actual wolf. I saw it with my own eyes, it was the craziest thing. It jumped right over me and chased off whoever was after me." He said.
"Dad, there hasn't been wolves in California for like 60 years." He argued.
"I'm just telling you what I saw." He replied, with a sigh as he looked at his son.

Skylar's body shivered violently as water dripped from her skin.
She was walking naked through the woods, trying desperately to find her work bag.
Stumbling barefoot she had one arm stretched over her chest and her other hand down lower trying to cover herself up in case she ran into anyone.
Her breathing was ragged and she was in a state of shock from what had just happened.
Her teeth chattered and she was pretty sure she was going to freeze to death before she managed to find her work bag, which had a change of clothes in it.
It occurred to her that she might just have to wander out onto the road naked.

Derek was making his way back through the woods, he'd just stopped Scott from attacking Jackson who was sitting in a car with Allison talking.
Thanks to Scott, he was now the most wanted suspected criminal in all of California, so he was having to stay hidden.
When he stepped on a small twig, it cracked under his weight and he heard someone gasp.
He stood perfectly still listening as he could hear someone's ragged breathing.
Just as he started to turn and walk away from the sound he heard a weak voice say, "Hello?"
He cocked his head to the side, at the sound. He was pretty sure the voice belonged to Scott's sister, but every encounter that he'd ever had with her didn't end well.
She'd even pepper sprayed him once.
Deciding to ignore her, he started to walk away again.
When Skylar heard the footsteps resume she called out, "Help… someone please, help me."
It was only moments later that Derek walked out of the tree line and stopped a few feet in front of her.
The two stared at each other wide eyed as Skylar continued to try and keep herself covered, her hair was soaking wet and she was so cold her lips were starting to turn blue.
Finally managing to speak Skylar said, "i… uh, can you throw me your jacket and close your eyes?"
When he didn't move or respond she said, "Please, I'm freezing to death… and naked!"
Shaking his head he pulled his leather jacket it off and threw it on the ground in front of her.
"Close your eyes or turn around, I'm naked!" she exclaimed
Turning sideways and looking away from her he asked, "Yeah, I noticed… what you'd do; decide to go skinny dipping in the middle of the night?"
He was annoyed by the way she was speaking to him, she'd been nothing but rude and now was acting like it was his job to help her.
Skylar grabbed the jacket and pulled it on as she hugged it to herself and shivered, but was thankful the jacket was so big on her that it covered her.
"T-thank you." She stuttered out still shivering in the cold night air.
"What are you doing out here?" He asked, as he turned back and looked at her.
"Uhh…" She started to say and then stopped.
She didn't know if she could trust him, after all it was just his uncle that had stabbed and left her for dead.
Plus, she wasn't about to tell anyone what had happened.
"Thanks for the jacket… I need to go." She said as she turned and started in the direction all the voices form the police were coming from.
"What happened?" Derek asked her as he started to follow her.
"Please, leave me alone." She said softly as she continued on her way.
"I just found you wandering around in the woods naked and drenched in water." He reminded her.
"So obviously, whatever I've been through was traumatic and I don't want to talk about it… especially with you." She admitted, still not going into detail.
Knowing she was hiding something and that whatever it was she was hiding was something big he grabbed her arm bringing her to a stop as he said "I'm not the enemy here."
"I know that you've been trying to help Scott, and that he trusts you… or whatever. But I don't know you." She argued.
"Knowing me isn't the point, if something is going on… you need to tell me." He pointed out.
Thinking it was strange that he was in the woods right about the time his uncle brought her there she said, "What are you doing out here?"
He was silent as he watched her, trying to read her expression.
"Unless you're going to be honest with me… I'm not telling you a damn thing." She said stubbornly.
As she continued on her way towards the voices.
"You really wanna know? I was helping your brother." He admitted.
Glancing behind her to where he was walking she said, "Well… thanks for that."
"I answered you, your turn." He said.
Seeing lights just on the other side of the tree line she said, "I still don't trust you."
Grabbing her arm again he said, "Seriously?"
Pulling her arm back she said, "Let me go, or I'll scream at the top of my lungs and get the whole police department will run over here.
His jaw tensed and his nostrils flared in anger at her, he was aware of how close they were to the police.
Without another glance at him she made her way out of the tree line.
Derek angrily shook his head, his breathing labored from how infuriating she was. It was obvious she knew something and just wasn't telling him.
He also didn't know if she was a werewolf or human, he'd seen her eyes glowing yellow once before but she hadn't shown any other signs of being a werewolf.
"Can you give me a ride home, please?" she asked as she walked up behind Stiles.
He was just starting to open the door to his jeep.
Turning around he saw Skylar clutching a leather jacket to herself. Her hair still dripping wet and her legs were bare.
He glanced down to her bare feet, then noticed there wasn't any sign of pants.
"Do you not have clothes on under there?" He managed to ask her.
Glancing back to the tree line where she'd left Derek she said, "This jacket is the only thing I have on, I'm freezing!"
"Get in." He said.
Nodding in thanks she opened up the door and got into the passenger seat.
Once in the car he took his jacket off and draped it over her as she continued to shiver and her teeth chattered.
They drove for a little while in silence with the heat turned up all the way.
His eyes scanned her profile from the side before he finally asked, "What happened to you?"
"Nothing." She said, her voice so quiet it was almost a whisper.
"Nothing?" He repeated back.
Sighing she said, "It's not what you're thinking."
"Then ease my mind and tell me what happened." He pleaded.
"I'm sorry… but I can't tell you." She said looking over at him.
She knew they wanted the alpha and she was afraid if she told them who it was he'd kill them and then kill her for telling them.
For now she needed a long, hot bath and a goodnights sleep. Everything else could wait until tomorrow, or at least that's what she told herself as they neared her house.
As she reached the top of the stairs in the house she looked down to see a white dog bowl with 'Scott' written on it in permanent marker.
She looked over to where Stiles was standing.
"It's uh, it's a long story." He said as he kicked the bowl into Scott's bedroom.
Thanking him for the ride she gathered some pajamas from her closet and headed into the bathroom.
It was over an hour later she came back out to Stiles sitting at her desk, playing with an old rubix cube.
"What are you still doing here?" She asked him.
Dropping it to the desk he said, "Obviously I'm worried about you." He stood up and walked over to her.
"I'm worried about me too." She said under her breath as she turned and crawled into her un-made bed.
"That doesn't make me feel any better." He admitted.
Reaching over she turned the light off on her bedside table and watched as Stiles paused in the doorway to her bedroom.
She checked her phone to see if Isaac had responded to any of her texts, but he hadn't.
"Goodnight." He said softly watching her.
"Night." She replied as she pulled the blankets up farther.
As a car alarm went off from down the street, she gasped and sat straight up in the bed, still shaken up from everything.
At seeing her reaction Stiles said, "I could… stay."
Not responding she laid back down and closed her eyes, only to open them a few seconds later when she felt the bed move.
Laying down on top of the blankets that she was under, he turned on his side with his head on the other pillow facing her.
His eyes traced her face in the dim lighting of the room and he quietly said, "I'm sorry I didn't tell you when you kept asking me about Scott…"
Nodding she replied, "I'm sorry too."
A/N- Thank you so much for reading, I hope you all liked the chapter.
Well, part of what is different about Skylar has been revealed...but is it the whole story? ^_~
I'm on Tumblr now, the link is up on my profile and I also make sets on Polyvore to go along with different stories including this one.
