Hey everyone! Sorry I haven't updated this story in...whoa...two years. Whoops. The muses have been very bad at giving me ideas for this story. But I've gotten on them recently and well I got another chapter for you! Thanks for the patience while I've been trying to get back to writing this story again! Enjoy!
-Chapter Thirteen-
"Hey Dark?"
"Hm?" Dark turned to look at the blonde behind him as they waited for the next class to start.
"You don't mind if I sit with you at lunch again today?" he asked fidgeting a bit with his hands on the desk. "I mean...well yesterday and all..."
"It's fine really," Dark replied with a nod and a smile. "The others just take a little more to warm up to someone new. So don't worry. You're welcome anytime really."
"A-alright." Krad gave a smile to the thief before Dark turned around as the teacher came in to start the next class.
"Hello," Krad spoke up as he came up to the others at lunch under their usual tree and sat down beside Dark. Daisuke nodded with a small smile and Satoshi just nodded once while taking a bite of his food. Krad took a couple of bites of his food while everyone sat silently eating. "Um...H-Hikari?"
"Hm?" Satoshi paused in his bite of food and looked to the blonde.
"Um...are you really related to the Hikari that made all those pretty artworks in the museums?" the blonde asked curiously.
"Yeah," Satoshi replied with a small blink at the question with Daisuke as well.
"Your family made some pretty neat works," he replied with a smile. "I like looking at them when my mom takes me to her work to show me around a bit." He gave a slight pause. "Do...do you draw or paint too?"
"Not really."
"Aw. Why not?" The blonde tilted his head curiously at the blue haired boy. Even Dark and Daisuke looked to him wondering what his answer would be.
Satoshi gave a shrug as he took another bite of his lunch before answering. "I'm not that good at it," he lied.
"Aw. I'd really like to see something of yours though." He gave a pause. "I mean, if you don't mind. I'm sure anything is good."
"Eh, he's better than he lets on," Dark replied with a grin and Satoshi shot him a quick glare. "He's just chicken." He gave Satoshi another mischievous grin.
"Please?" Krad asked again politely giving Satoshi an asking look at him that caught Satoshi a little off guard. Satoshi gave a glance at Daisuke who gave a small smile.
"I suppose I'll see what I can do," the blue haired boy replied with a slight sigh.
"Oh thank you!" The blonde beamed with a smile that really threw off Satoshi and Daisuke. "I'll draw you something in return."
"He's got a good eye," Dark chimed in glancing at Krad who looked at him and beamed more.
"You really think so?" Krad asked curiously at Dark. He'd only showed him the one picture he'd drawn of him so far.
"Yeah. Your drawing yesterday was really good," the thief replied with a grin. "I should know. Remember, retired art thief here." Satoshi gave a slight snort at Dark's comment and Dark looked to the blue haired boy. "You know I've been good since turning myself in and giving up my thieving days Commander."
"Speaking of that," the blonde spoke up looking back to Satoshi. "Dark mentioned before you were in charge of capturing him back then." He tilted his head. "Was it because of him going after your ancestor's artworks?"
Satoshi gave a blink as he glanced to Daisuke then to Dark and back to the blonde. He couldn't exactly say that part of it was due to Krad being a part of him and his family for generations. "Yes," he replied and took another bite before continuing. "After all, I'm the last of my family so I had to make sure to take care of the one responsible for taking my family's belongings."
Krad gave a blink and tilted his head at him. "You're the last?" he asked blinking at the blue haired boy. "You mean...you don't have parents?"
"My mother died when I was still very young," Satoshi replied as if it was common for him to speak of it easily. "I never knew who my father was."
The blonde gave another blink as Satoshi took another bite of his food as if it didn't bother him before looking down at his own food with a slightly sad look passing through his gaze that the other three caught but didn't say anything to. He poked at his food for a moment trying to think of something to say before looking up at the blue haired boy. "I'll bet she was a good mother though," he said quietly as blue eyes turned to look at the golden ones. "And beautiful."
Blue eyes gave a blink at the blonde as the other angel took a few bites of his food quietly. He gave a slight furrow of his brow before looking back to his food and continued eating quietly with the others until lunch was nearly over. The blonde put his leftovers away before standing and thanking them for letting him sit with them before heading for the school again. Dark quickly packed up his lunch as well and headed off after him leaving the two there.
"You okay?" Daisuke asked after the two others left and they were packing up their lunches. He knew that Satoshi was a bit sensitive about his upbringing with his mother dying when he was still young. He'd told him before that that was part of the curse of the Hikari: they usually died quite young because of Krad's tie to their DNA. He'd told the redhead he'd fall victim to the same curse soon enough, thus ending his line of the Hikari and Krad for good. But when Dark and Krad had been sealed into the Black Wings, he'd found that the curse had been lifted now that the tie to them in their DNA had been severed. He'd be able to enjoy a long, healthier life than his mother and past ancestors had ever enjoyed. It was one reason why he hated Krad so much because of that curse and taking away his mother's life so soon.
"I'm fine," Satoshi replied standing up and turned to go back into the school, not looking at Daisuke.
"Satoshi..." Daisuke started to say with a little worry and reached out taking his hand. Blue eyes turned to look at red ones searching silently.
"It's alright Daisuke," Satoshi replied with a small smile, trying to reassure the redhead. "Honest." Red eyes continued to look at him for another moment trying to make sure before Satoshi nodded for the school and started heading back towards it so they wouldn't be late for class. The redhead sighed and followed right behind as they went back in and took their seats before the teacher came in to start class up.
The rest of the school day seemed to pass quickly enough and when school let out, Krad headed out of class before the other three, saying goodbye to them. He gave a slight pause at the doorway as he glanced back over his shoulder to Satoshi before disappearing into the hallway with the other students filing out of the room. The blue haired boy only gave a slight furrow of his brow momentarily at the empty spot the blonde had been before brushing it off and turned his attention back to the thief and redhead as they waited to head out with him to the gates. Dark chose to walk home like he usually did most days and Daisuke rode with him back to the house before he gave him a kiss and smile and got out and headed into his house while Satoshi headed back to his apartment.
The next day, Krad came in while the redhead was over at Satoshi's desk talking before class started and Dark sat at his desk with his forehead against the top of it, eyes closed.
"Hey Dark," the blonde spoke up as he walked past the thief and slid into his seat. The thief sat up with a yawn and turned towards him as the blonde furrowed his brow a little at him. "Did you not sleep well?"
"Eh, not really," Dark replied with another yawn. "And it doesn't help it's raining outside either." He paused and looked towards the windows where the sky was covered in dark grey clouds and rain was pouring down. "Flying in the rain sucks so I dislike rainy days."
"Ah well, um...maybe this will cheer you up," the blonde spoke up as he pulled out his sketchbook and flipped through some pages and pulled out a page before handing it to Dark. The thief took it and blinked looking at another picture of him drawn on the paper flying over the ocean with a smile on his face. "I uh...I was kind of inspired from when you told me to picture flying through the sky back when we got locked in the equipment room. So I...well drew that."
"It's...really good," Dark spoke up blinking at the picture. He had to admit the blonde had done really well capturing him flying over the ocean like that. It did remind him of the time he spent just flying out along the ocean, letting the wind off the water carry him through the air effortlessly.
"I'm glad," the blonde beamed with a soft smile at the thief. He then paused and looked to his sketchbook again before giving a slight fidget that got Dark to raise an eyebrow. "I uh...I drew that picture I said I would for Hikari last night." He gave a slight pause as he flipped through the pictures as he picked it up again. "It took me a little while since...well...I don't know what she looked like and all, but what Hikari said about his mother yesterday..." He trailed off as he stopped at the picture then turned it for Dark to look at it.
Blinking at the picture, Dark looked to the sketch of a young looking woman with soft, feminine features that mirrored Satoshi almost. She had a soft smile on her face but almost a sad look in her eyes. But what got Dark the most was that it looked almost exactly like the picture he'd seen of Satoshi's mother when he and Daisuke had been over to his apartment in the past and happened to notice it and had asked who it had been. Satoshi had been quiet then about it, but he had said it was his mother and the only picture he had of her left.
"D-do you think Hikari will like it?" the blonde asked pulling Dark out of his thoughts as he gave a few blinks in surprise at the picture still.
"Uh...y-yeah," Dark replied with a nod before glancing back over his shoulder at the blue haired boy still talking with Daisuke. He looked back to the picture as Krad gave a slight fidget again. "I think he'll like it."
The blonde gave a smile just as the warning bell rang to start classes and the others quickly went to their desks as the teacher came in. Dark quickly turned around in his seat as the blonde put the sketchbook away and pulled out his notebook as his other classmates did.
When lunch came around, since it was still raining outside, Dark, Daisuke, and Satoshi stayed in the classroom to eat their lunch, sitting off by the windows. Krad joined them with his sketchbook in hand.
"Um H-Hikari?" Krad spoke up as he fidgeted a little, setting his lunch down to the side and took his sketchbook in his hands.
"Yes?" Satoshi paused eating his lunch as he looked to the blonde.
"I uh...well, the drawing I said I'd do for you in return when I asked you if you'd draw me something from yesterday," the blonde started to say quietly as he flipped through the sketchbook to the picture and pulled it out and held it out towards the blue haired boy.
Blinking at the paper held out to him where he couldn't see the picture, Satoshi set his lunch down before taking the paper in his own hands. When he flipped it over to reveal what Krad had drawn, he couldn't help but stare at the lifelike picture of his mother similar to the only picture he had of her at home.
"I worked on it last night," the blonde spoke up fidgeting a little. "What you said of your mother passing away when you were still young...well...it kind of inspired me a little. I didn't know what she looked like but I used your features to draw what I thought she might look like." He gave a slight pause. "I...I hope that you like it."
Satoshi couldn't stop staring at the picture that the blonde drew. It was too much like his only picture of his mother to be coincidence that the blonde happened to draw it like that on his own. But even with what he'd seen with the quick connection the first day Krad had shown up, there had been no memory of anything in the blonde's mind. As much as he didn't want to trust in the blonde from everything in the past, even now, he knew what he'd seen. The blonde wasn't faking anything about his amnesia.
Slowly looking up from the picture to the blonde looking at him still fidgeting a little, he could see the slight insecurity of Satoshi not liking it in his eyes. It was a look he definitely wasn't used to seeing the blonde having at all and it sort of unnerved him a little. But he remembered what Daisuke had said the other day to him while they were doing homework about giving Krad a second chance with how he was now, hoping that he won't go back to being like the way he was beforehand. He had told the redhead he'd try but given how much he hated the blonde for everything he'd done to his family, it would be hard to let that go. The redhead had said he understood but that Satoshi had given Dark a chance too and had warmed up to him as time had gone on. The blue haired boy had nodded realizing his point he made.
"I...I like it," Satoshi finally spoke up quietly giving a small, half smile to the blonde. He noticed the redhead to his left give a small smile at him at his attempt to trying to be nice.
"R-really?" the blonde asked blinking and searching the blue eyed gaze at him. Satoshi nodded giving a slightly more sincere smile this time. "I-I'm glad." He gave a smile then set his sketchbook down and started eating his lunch again.
Setting his picture to the side so it wouldn't get ruined, Satoshi picked his lunch back up and continued eating with the others quietly. The blonde seemed happy enough about him liking the picture and he didn't want to ruin the mood. Even if it was still strange seeing Krad like this, he'd rather prefer it than his old self any day. They finished up lunch and went back to their seats, Krad still beaming happily behind Dark as the teacher came in to start class up again.
When school finally ended, Dark followed Satoshi and Daisuke out of the classroom to the front of the school where Satoshi's limo was waiting as usual. The blonde was just finishing changing his shoes at his locker and went to the doors to look outside at the rain still falling then looked at his phone. The thief noticed him sigh at his phone then look out at the wet day.
"Is something wrong Krad?" Dark asked as he came up beside him after changing his shoes and the other two were doing the same.
"My mother texted me saying that she was stuck in a meeting at work and my father's dealing with a case right now that's got him stuck at work until near dinner time," the blonde sighed. "And I forgot my umbrella of all days."
Dark gave a blink looking out at the pouring rain knowing how long of a walk that would be and to be soaked by time he got home would not be pleasing, even if they couldn't get sick like normal humans would. But Krad didn't know that.
"Why don't you ride with us then?" Dark offered as the redhead and blue haired boy came up beside them. Satoshi and Daisuke gave a blink.
'Both of his parents are stuck at work,' Dark quickly told Daisuke through their link. 'And you know how much it sucks walking in the rain without an umbrella.'
"Really?" the blonde turned and looked at Dark then looked to Satoshi. "Y-you wouldn't mind if I got a ride with you?"
Satoshi gave another blink and glanced to Daisuke who gave a subtle nod to him before looking to the blonde. Even he knew how much it sucked walking in the rain. "Sure I suppose," he finally replied before heading for the door. The redhead gave a small smile before following behind him outside under the overhang before the two ran for the limo putting their bags up over their heads to keep some of the rain off as the driver opened the door holding an umbrella to stay dry himself.
"Come on," Dark said as he took the blonde's hand as they went out under the overhang and half dragged him through the rain and pushed him into the open door before sliding in behind him as the driver shut the door again. The thief gave a quick shake of his head back and forth, sending some water droplets over to the other two that had taken their seats facing the two incoming.
"Dark!" the redhead said putting his hands up to block some of the water. Satoshi gave a slight glare and roll of his eyes at the thief.
"You're just as wet," the thief smirked back.
Giving the driver the directions to Krad's house, the blonde thanked them as he got out once there. He gave Dark a smile before quickly running up to his door and unlocked it and went in before the limo pulled away and headed to the Niwa residence. Dark got out and headed in as Daisuke followed after giving Satoshi a kiss and headed up to his room, dropping off his bag and went to get changed into some dry clothes.
"Hey Daisuke?" the thief asked as he leaned into the redhead's room where he was just finishing changing into dry clothes himself.
"Yeah?"
"Um...thanks for helping me out dealing with...well you know." Dark gave a slight fidget. "I know it's a huge ordeal for Satoshi especially and all."
"It's okay. I talked with him and asked if he'd give it an honest try with him," the redhead replied. "I know it'll take some time to warm up to him as he is now, especially with what's all happened in the past with his family. I don't blame him either. I suppose I would have a strong animosity towards him too if I were in his shoes."
"Yeah I suppose I would too," Dark sighed.
"Hey Dark? Dai?" Emiko called up the stairs.
"Yeah Mom?" they asked together.
"Could you two come give me a hand with a few things before dinner?" she asked.
"Sure Mom," they said together again before giving a chuckle and went towards the door. They gave each other a silent look of understanding about the situation with trying to deal with the interaction with Krad and Satoshi and hoping that it would continue going well before heading down the stairs to see what Emiko wanted help with.
Well that's the chapter. Sorry it was short. But the next chapter hopefully won't be as short. And I won't take forever to try to update again! Promise!
Anyways, thanks for your patience again and any reviews and critiques are wonderful! Thanks!
