HEYY! As you can tell, I named this chapter Flight down the Memory Lane (for some odd reason) but I was really tempted to name it Hardy Rhinopony Goddess in Lavender Skittlez Sweater, but that's quite a mouthful.
Of course I know I'm not a celebrity or anything close, but I just really wanna thank you guys for reviewing and I get feels when I get a review. Whenever I get one, I want to start typing but I'd look like a mess the day after so I never get to do that, but I'm here now (not in your room cuz that'd make me even creepier) so enjoy!
Randomly, I've been stalking Kristina Webb on Instagram (colour_me_creative) and one of her drawings inspired this chapter. It's a drawing of a girl looking out of an airplane window and has the quote, "If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would you go?"I don't want to gush, but she is just so amazing at drawing and she's gorgeous too.
"What do you do with the scarf? It smells really bad."
"Let's get on the plane, all right?"
The flight attendant stared at them. "Uh, excuse me, but we suggest that you remove the cloth from your eyes to prevent any dangers."
"That is not just any cloth, it is an expensive scarf," Felix protested.
"Well, whatever you may call it, we'd like to ensure your safety."
Felix sighed and picked Marzia up. Oh my, she thought. What's going on? I gotta say, he's pretty strong… To Marzia, those few moments when she was being carried felt surreal. The flight attendant was too surprised to say anything. She'd never seen anything like that in her career. "Okay then, Marzia, just stay put, I'm putting the bags up."
"Mm-hmm." It felt so dreamlike. She couldn't see anything, but she could feel his presence somehow, and it felt comforting. Marzia, focus. You barely even know this guy. Etiquette. Grace. Intelligence. I can't forget to show those. But I didn't seem very graceful when I convinced those girls at the park to pull a prank on him.
A thin, stern-looking lady with her hair pulled back in a tight bun pursed her thickly coated lips at them. Or at Felix, as Marzia couldn't see and was practically getting suffocated by the smelly scarf. "I strongly suggest that you remove whatever that is from your face, miss."
Felix started, "We're sitting down. Can't we-
The flight attendant shot him a dirty look. She didn't look like the type of person who'd take a no for an answer. "Fine," he sighed. He slumped in his seat and flipped through the airplane's magazine.
The lady was still beside him, as if she were waiting for one of them to take the scarf off. She raised a thin eyebrow as if to say, well? "Hey, Marzia, I don't know why, but I get the feeling that someone's watching us and wants you to take off the scarf. Of course she's not waiting beside us or anything, though."
"Um, okay." The thin lady glared at Felix, and a hiss escaped from her lips. "What? We have removed "whatever that is" from her face," She held her head high and marched off. "That stupid girl Lisanna…" she muttered to herself. They guessed that Lisanna was the first flight attendant who'd let them pass. "Next thing you know, she's letting people with rifles in."
"Sheesh, what is her problem? It's not like we'd miss the stairs and walk into the engine." Felix said after she was gone.
"Come on, don't be a big baby about it," Marzia was mostly happy because she could see again. And see him again. "But she was really mean about Lisanna." she added. He nodded. After a while, they were launching in the air. While the plane was steadying itself in the sky, Felix asked, "Hey, do you know where we're going?"
"Um, no. You blindfolded me."
"Don't you remember?" He pointed out the window. It was an amazing view, with the waters unbelievably blue. She could even see a village of colorful houses near a tiny beach. But she couldn't find any remarkable memory associated with it. "It's beautiful," she offered, hoping it was the right thing to say. Apparently it wasn't, because Felix sighed sadly. "How 'bout this? Do you remember? We're gonna arrive at the airport." He looked so hopeful and she just didn't want to crush him.
"Of course we are. Where else would we end up?" she asked, confused.
"That airport," he stared down at the magazine featuring a tourism area he'd never heard of before. "is where we first met."
Marzia tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, not knowing what to say. "You still believe that we met in some other world?" He didn't reply. Maybe I should give him some space… I think he needs time alone, she thought, when in fact, what he wanted was less space between them. What he wanted was to spend more time alone, with her.
She tried to keep herself occupied. She twisted her ponytail into a bun, put her iPod on shuffle, chewed gum. Then she pulled out a novel to read. But like she expected, she had to ask him eventually. "What were we like?" She didn't know if she was humoring him or herself when she asked him.
An uncomfortable silence took over for a second time. She traced the outline of the title on her novel with her forefinger. Beautiful Ruins. She tried to distract herself with the gorgeous view on the cover. It looked similar to the view she'd seen at the window earlier. "You saw my YouTube videos," he finally said, stealing all of her attention as she dropped the book. "and we started to chat online." He turned. "That's where it all started.
"Then I saved up to see you in Italy. We had problems talking at the airport (the one where we'll reach soon), but it all went well. I felt something I'd never felt before."
"Love?"
"No. I don't believe in love at first sight. It gradually came to both of us. When I went back home, I felt like I wasn't whole. Like there was a missing piece in my life." That's it! Marzia thought. That's what I've been feeling. It was as if my life was a puzzle and something was missing, but I just didn't know what. Is it him? She thought carefully. That's right. I never feel that missing piece when I'm with him.
"You must think I'm crazy, Marzia, but-
"No! No, I don't. Not at all." She said it so suddenly that Felix jumped. Jumpscares were terrifying for him. "It's just that… I feel that a piece is missing too." He took her hands. "You remember everything?"
"Well, no. It's just that I have that same feeling." She could tell from his eyes that he was greatly disappointed. "Oh," Without meaning to, he dropped her hands on the metal armrest rather harshly. She thought he was mad at her. "Hey! It's not my problem you're a psychopath who thinks we're dating in some nonexistent world! You drag me along and I'm just forced to play along like I'm a stupid puppet? Is that what you expect?!"
The snoring passengers jolted awake and tucked the magazines that had been resting on their faces into their original spots to watch them. "I expect you to trust me!"
"Oh, so we came from a world where we're together? And now for some reason, we're transported into this world where only you remember what happened because you're the only one who's smart enough to do that! Are you playing a dumb trick on me?"
"No, no no! Just listen!"
"I suggest that you listen to me. I don't believe in any of your crap and I never will. I will never have feelings for you." She had to lie to show how angry she was, but she realized that she'd gone too far. "Fine. Stick with that,"
"Do you expect me to be sorry? If it's the only way out, I'd rather die with a crash now than be with you," Everyone gasped. The plane was filled with commotion. "Sir, please remain seated! Put that down! Calm down, madam! Everything will be alright! Please remain seated."
Lisanna came up to Marzia. "I'm very sorry to, er, interrupt, but could you please calm yourself down? Everyone is panicking." She looked panicked herself, for different reasons. Marzia didn't want to make her job any harder, so she nodded and tried to give her a sincere smile. Thankfully, Felix somehow managed to plunge himself into sleep.
Marzia tried not to look at him. He looked so tired. It's my fault. Huh. My fault this guy's exhausted. Was I too harsh? Yeah, probably. What's wrong with you, girl? Everything's screwed up now. She sighed and plopped a mint into her mouth. Better give herself something better to do than stare at him.
Felix woke up as the plane shook, entering some turbulence. She didn't even have to apologize. He could see the guilt on her face. "Hey," he smiled.
"Hi." she whispered back. "Mints?" He slowly shook his head.
"Come on, do you want bad breath? You just woke up."
"Yeah, yeah, okay." He took one in his palm.
"Hey, uh… Could you tell me more about.. Us? What was I like?" He spent the rest of the flight telling her about her YouTube channel, how she did beauty tutorials and DIYs and collaborated with him sometimes, and she listened to him, hanging onto every word. Beauty? Fashion? That's not my thing. More like Siena's. Funny how this description of me sounds like a completely different person. Is this what it's always like when someone describes you?
"Uhhh, hi. What's your name?" Siena ran her fingers through her hair. The easiest thing to do when her hands were idle. Her bare legs felt cold against the park bench.
"Troye Sivan. You?"
"Siena Abbatelli… I know you. You're the YouTuber. I ship Troyler, by the way. You guys are so cute." She doesn't know I'm a star, she doesn't know I'm a literal star, I have to act like the YouTuber, I must be professional, I have to be cool.
"Y-yeah, thanks.. Haha.. So.. How's it going?"
"Eh, not that good. My boyfriend just dumped me with a text. What a jerk. He can't even show up. Whatever, I don't care anymore."
"You want dessert? My treat. Makes everyone feel better."
"I told you I don't care about that jerk." she deadpanned, but her smile was unmistakable. Genuine, with a hint of shyness that was very rare, coming from Siena.
"Do you like cinnamon rolls?"
"She shrugged. "I like a lot of sweet stuff. Cinnamon rolls are my favorites."
"Okay then… One cinnamon roll, please." The mustached man behind the counter didn't look up from his notepad, where he probably wrote the orders. "No cinnamon roll," he said in thickly accented English. "Only casu marzu."
"Casu marzu? Really?" Siena groaned.
"Why? It sounds pretty cool."
"Do you even know what that thing can do you?"
"Not really?"
"Yeah. Sorry, sir, no thanks, have a great day!"
"Hey, wait! I want to try some!"
"I see that dish every. Single. Family meeting. And my aunt, who fancies herself as a cook, forces me to eat it. I always tell them I'm refreshing myself in the bathroom, and it works every time."
"Is it really that bad?"
"You want to see for yourself?"
"Yup."
"The toilet's right there, by the way."
"All right. One casu marzu, please."
Troye carefully set it down in front of him. "Well? Dig in." Siena smirked.
"It's, uh, very soft."
"Yup, nice and tender." She propped her chin on her hands.
"And interestingly flavored? Best dish in Italy."
"Yeah, I don't believe that bullshit. The toilet's to your right." He bolted for the door. Siena giggled to herself. Interestingly flavored. Ha. Her phone rang. "Hey, Marzia, you're at the airport? Well, Gabby took Juliette with her for cooking lessons so everything's fine. Except that douchebag dumped me with a freaking text, like, how crappy is that? I know, right. Yeah, well, I'm at that restaurant beside the park with Felix's friend, Troye. He's in the toilet right now 'cuz he just ate some casu marzu. So true. Yeah! Oh my gosh, you're in Italy? Oh, okay. Uh-huh. Okay, have fun, I'll call you later. Bye,"
"That was disgusting," Troye walked back to the table, still grimacing.
"Told you. Do you want to actually eat something? I can bake a little. You like cookies? I have Nutella."
"Nutella? Sounds fantastic." But Nutella was not the only fantastic thing to the star.
All right, sooo that's it for this chapter. I hope you guys liked it, and please review :)… I just visited this farm and they had guinea pigs.
I like guinea pigs.
Anyway, have a nice day and see you next time! :D
Love you tons,
