It was dark.

Steve floated in a endless void. He had never been so lonely, at least when he mined there were other miners or even mobs to accompany him.

But now, the silence and the darkness were just suffocating. They had solidified into a thick gel, making it impossible to move. Yet Steve could feel a surge of energy in his body, breaking apart the darkness surrounding him. He could see a faint glimpse of light next to him. That is it! My escape! He thought as a renewed source of energy flooded his veins, and he flailed his arms around, trying to swim toward the light source. He was so close... he was about to touch it...

"STEVE! CAN YOU HEAR ME?" A rough voice blasted into Steve's eardrums, resonating through his dark confined jail cell, stopping Steve's outstretched hands. His hands was just half a block away from the welcoming light, and he could feel so much warmth, so much hospitality in it... Steve could just submit to the light and let it take away the why not? Steve asked himself. But just as he extended his hands, the dark world around him slowly dissolved into nothingness, replaced by a flurry image of color. The image began to sharpen, revealing a small wooden room. The miner suddenly realized that he was being supported by warm fabric, and not free-floating in the endless Void. How comfortable... Steve thought as he tried to close his eyes again, when he was suddenly tackled by someone, the force sent pillows flying everywhere.

"Steve! You are back! I'm so glad that you are safe! " The Valkyrie said, her voice muffled by the pillows. Pulling herself up, she said.

"We thought you were going to die!" Trinity said with tears brimming her eyes. " You didn't touch that light, did you?"

Steve could barely recall anything from that strange dream, but he could remember missing that light for about an inch. "No, I didn't touc..." His voice was being interrupted by another voice.

"Steve! You are okay!" Abdiel said as he raced into the room. More pillows flew around as a result of the collision. " I've not seen anyone surviving a crystal merge before! You are so lucky Steve!"

"But really don't do this anymore." A gruff voice sounded from the door. It was Notch, who strolled in the room. " Survival of crystal merges are extremely rare, and it requires a lot of willpower not to succumb to the power of the crystal." He turned to Steve. "And that should be the light you seek in that Void, yes?" Steve only nodded his head. "Then you should be fine. But if you touch that light, the crystalinside your hand." Notch pointed at Steve's open hand. "Will absorb the power of your soul and you shall cease to exist."

Steve could barely suppress a shiver at the experience of his near death. Then the voice of Abdiel broke in his thoughts.

"Rest now. You have used a lot of energy." He gently but firmly shoved Steve back to the warm silky beddings. That is when Steve realized that how tired he was and he lapsed into a deep sleep.

Sunlight slowly shone inside the small room, waking Steve from his slumber. He could feel that he was definitely better. He flailed around a bit and finally succeeded in getting out of the swathing blankets that had nearly encased him. Suddenly, a loud hammering on the bedroom door startled Steve. He immediately looked out of the door and saw a few zombies trying intently on breaking down his bedroom door. Adrenaline immediately flooded Steve's veins as his instincts kicked in. He scanned the room frantically for something to defend himself, but after much searching, he could only find a wooden sword.

Well, that is better than nothing... He gripped the sword tightly and braced himself as the door flew off it's hinges and the zombies rushed in. Steve had to hold his breath to prevent himself from gagging. He attacked one of the undead, half expecting the dull blade to bounce off the undead's tough skin, but instead the shimmering blade went through the zombie and the zombie immediately went limp. Steve pulled out the sword from the green body and watched the mob dissolve into smoke. A slight smile crept up his face as he had found this powerful weapon, and he hacked and chopped at the remaining zombies, which all disappeared into wisps of smoke, leaving behind puddles of putrid blood.]

Steve could not believe his eyes. The seeming fragile wooden sword had turned itself into a highly dangerous weapon. He could still feel the power emnating from the charged sword. But as Steve set the sword down on a broken chest, the power from the sword suddenly disappear. Distraught and confused, he turned around, just to see Abdiel and Trinity gasping at the carnage around.

"You fought those zombies." Abdiel said, disbelief clear in his voice. "With only that wooden sword?"

Steve nodded wearily, before Trinity rushed to him and started asking him.

"Are you okay, Steve? Did you get hurt?" She said while Abdiel checked around the room.

"The torches there are out. Probably by the rain last night." He said, before turning to the sword on the broken chest. He gripped it tightly but Steve could not feel the immense source of energy in the room again. Instead the power seems to have receded back into the miner's hand. Steve gripped the wooden blade again, feeling the power rush back into the sword. It was then he realized the eerie silence in the house.

"Where is everyone else?" The miner asked, worry creeping into his voice. The Aetherian simply waved dismissively and replied. "Notch has contacted a nearby city and they had sent convoys to transport the others to their city until they can start rebuilding."

"Then why are we still here?" Steve asked.

"It is because..." Trinity said, her voice stern. "Notch has found a way to stop the skies from falling."

A/N: Yay! Cliffy! Or is it?
