PAST - Konoha, Office of the Third Hokage

Sakura

"Kurenai? Why is our guest in my office?" The third asked, gesturing to the pink haired woman who was standing resolutely next to the dark haired girl. Kakashi stood in the background, leaning against the wall.

"She wouldn't stay behind sir. She insists on going out to find the Hyuuga Heiress." Kurenai informed the third.

Sakura steeled her spine staring stonily at the third. This was her friend who had been taken. Hinata had once told her about the several times that she'd been kidnapped as a child, shadows had passed over the other woman's features that Sakura wanted to chase away. So she couldn't sit still while a lonely and vulnerable little girl was scared.

"I can't let you do that. You do understand that right?"

"You have to. I know the details of these kidnappings and I can guess where they are before any damage is done."

"Even so, I don't want any events of the future to be changed on the off chance that you don't return to your own time."

"Hinata Hyuuga is very important to the future." Sakura said slowly, her head was telling her that she shouldn't be telling them this. Her eyes shifted towards Kurenai who looked confused, she vaguely remembered Kakashi telling her that she and Asuma had been told the bare minimum about her presence. Sakura shook off her worries and turned back to the task at hand.

"She is the wife of a future hokage and detrimental to the future of Konoha. If you fail to save her then Konoha will cease to exist." Sakura stood, letting it all sink in.

Sarutobi shifted in his seat, his facial expression non-changing but his shoulders stiffened slightly.

"We will find her. Kakashi, take her back to the safehouse." the third dismissed her with a wave of his hand.

Anger boiled in Sakura's gut. Kakashi touched her arm and she yanked herself away from his touch, stomping out of the office.

Twenty minutes later they were sitting in the safehouse, Kakashi hadn't let her out of his sight. So she sat, fuming silently as her mind began to formulate a plan.

"Kakashi. You have to let me go." she said finally before standing. Kakashi followed her as she began to pace.

"I can't. You know that-"

"I know, I know hokage's orders." she cut him off sarcastically.

His arms snaked around her waist and he turned her around to face him.

"I'm sorry." he apologized pulling her in for a hug. Sakura sighed, knowing what she had to do.

"Me too." she murmured softly and steeled her fingers, gathering chakra within them and jabbing them into his side. It was a trick that Tsunade had taught her when she was younger-usually it was used to put patients to sleep so that they could be operated on. She felt Kakashi's body go limp and she heaved him towards the closet where all of the linens were and shut the door.

She headed out of the house and weighed her options, if she went out the way that she came in she would be fighting her way out and she didn't want to hurt anyone else.

Kakashi's words from the previous day flitted through her mind "Theres no top to this thing, huh?" she smirked and gathered chakra into her feet.

Running up the chasm wall wasn't very hard, once she'd reached the top she reached forward to touch the genjutsu. It tingled against her fingers and she bit her lower lip. It wouldn't kill her to go through it, she knew that much at least.

Pressing forwards with her hands she pushed through the genjutsu and yelped with pain as the tingling turned into pain. Reaching for the edge of the chasm she heaved herself through the barrier and onto the ground, with her limbs twitching.

It felt as if she'd fallen into a bush of nettles but the pain slowly began to secede as she lay there.

After ten minutes she stood and looked over Konoha, the sun was beginning to set now in a final blaze of orange.

She took the long route around the village, skirting through the trees surrounding it before heading east. Hinata had been kidnapped several times, but she told Sakura that when she was nearly four she'd been kidnapped by a group of bounty hunters looking to cash in on her eyes. The Hyuuga would be around four years old now, so this was probably that time.

She had told Sakura that she had been blindfolded and gagged but could remember the smell of sea salt and the sound of men shouting. The closest port was a few hours away and Hinata had told her they'd stopped and made camp at some point a long the way.

She was glad she'd put a flak jacket on before she'd left-she'd naively thought that they'd let her go with the original team. But she was wrong. She dug through the pockets of the jacket, taking stock of what she had.

Finally she pointed her feet in the direction of the port and began to run.

PRESENT - Somewhere in the Land of Fire

Kakashi

Kakashi stood on a tree branch overlooking the old quarry, when he was looking over the reports there had been a list of old hideouts and this was the only one missing from the list. He remembered clearing it out when he was younger and had to shake his head ferociously to knock those thoughts from his head.

The quarry looked abandoned, there wasn't a soul in sight, but somehow Kakashi just knew that they were inside. The Karasu.

He jumped from the tree and onto the ground, his shoes making the slightest of noises. Normally they'd make no sound whatsoever, but Kakashi wasn't trying to hide.

He stood, bathed in moonlight, waiting for them. They didn't disappoint.

Within moments he was surrounded, they stood looking like a rag-tag gang of thugs, but these thugs all had the same tattoo on some part of their body unifying them as one.

There had been more of them when he'd been younger, Kakashi could count around twenty five.

"So you came to us afterall." a deep voice said and stepped forwards, a man with long, inky, black hair stood before Kakashi. "The guys were wondering when we'd have to come get you, but my intel is good, I knew you'd come to us. Kakashi Hatake."

Okay... so it's been a while since I've updated. But I've been so busy that I couldn't even write anything else either unfortunately. Hopefully I can get the rest of the chapters out so you all can have a complete story to read!
