"Why on earth would he think something like that!?" Naru glared out the window. He could not believe what he just heard come out of Mai's mouth about his brother! How could Gene not think that he would stay long enough to help him with anything that he needed help with? Whether Mai could leave Japan tomorrow or not he would have stayed to help his brother!
With a sigh as she dropped her head standing next to Lin, Mai let her arms and shoulders go limp. "He said that he wouldn't believe that you would help him because you never helped him when he was alive with stuff."
With a sigh as he dropped his head Naru leaned against the window. "I know I never really helped him like he wanted me too when he was alive. And I wish I could make that up to him in the flesh. But the least I could do for being a rotten brother when he was alive is help him now!"
Looking up and walking up next to him Mai sighed as she hugged his arm. Gasping when he turned and fully pulled her into his arms. "I guess the only thing we can do now is prove it to him somehow that you really will stay." Then she stood on her tip toes and kissed his cheek. "But I do believe that I should get back out there with Ling. It will actually be really nice having someone who wants to help me around for a change."
"Excuse me?"
Laughing as both Lin and Naru said it at the same time, Mai headed for the door. "The two of you help me with what I can do yes, and I still have little help on cases. But neither one of you help me with the office work. Rather give me more." Then she was gone through the door.
Naru sighed with a smile as he sat down and looked at the last picture that was taken of him and his brother with his parents. Only six months before Gene's death. Their last family photo and he had actually thought about missing it. "I know I was worthless as a brother when he was alive. I had more power than he did and always thought that the things he was doing was less important than what I was doing. But considering the circumstances I would have hoped that my current actions would have told him that I would have helped if he needed it. I want his body to take home yes so he can be properly laid to rest. But I would not have left his soul to wonder around Japan forever."
"Perhaps it is what Mai said."
"Yeah. I just have to prove it to him." With a sigh as he shook his head Naru pulled a few files from his tray on his desk. "At any rate whether I get his body tomorrow or a year from now there is still work to be done."
"Right."

With a giggle Mai and Ling sat at the two desks that were now in the office. One for Ling and one for Mai. Though Ling did help take the burden of the emails and data entry from Mai, she still wasn't ready to really deal with the people that called or came through the door. Mai could hardly handle them for that matter. But it was nice to have someone out in the big office with her every day now. And someone she could talk too.
With a bright smile, for the first time in ages Ling sat and talked with Mai as she fielded emails. She did feel a little helpless with someone of them and felt bad that Mai had to keep going in and showing her different things to look out for. But she was catching on. And it was really nice to have a friend she knew that she could count on no matter what. A friend that she made during the most terrifying time in her life.
But both girls turned blinking eyes when they heard the door open and saw a middle aged woman standing there with panic on her face. Standing up Mai walked toward the woman. "Hello. Welcome to Shibuya Psychic Research. How can we help you today?"
Rushing in and grabbing the now wide eyed girl by her shoulders, Rina Houshi was in a panic state. "I was told that this was the place to come if I need help with ghosts? You do help with ghosts right!?"
Blinking Mai nodded. "We do cases that involve ghosts yes. What is going on?"
Letting go of her shoulders the woman fell to her knees as tears streamed from her face. "My name is Rina. Rina Houshi. I need your teams help to find my daughter."
"We do not handle missing person cases. You need to go to the police."
Turning to the sound of the man, the woman's eyes got even wider. "I cannot go to the police! They would tell me that I was mad and lock me away and then I would never find my daughter! Please just hear me out!"
With a sigh as he walked in the room and sat at his chair as Mai helped the woman to sit across from him and Ling rushed to make her some tea. "Tell me why you think this is a case for ghost hunters and not a case for the police?"
Taking the tea with a nod for thanks Rina pulled a picture out of her pocket. "I am thirty five years old. My husband and I had been married since we were only sixteen. And it wasn't until three years ago that we were able to become parents. My daughter Hiroko turned three years old exactly a week ago today. But when she was six months old my husband was killed when a car accident slung metal up onto the side walk and struck his head."
Placing the picture to her heart she smiled. "Up until a month ago I could feel him with me still. Hiroko would just out of now where look up and start laughing. When she was able to talk a little I knew it was him when she would look up and giggle and say Papa. But then about a month ago she went from being a happy and healthy little girl to one who clung to me. She wanted nothing to do with baby sitters. If I did not own my home I would have been thrown out by now. I lost my job, but after staying with her a few days I couldn't leave her alone."
"What was going on?"
Her eyes going wide again she started shaking. "Loud noises. Thumps in rooms where no one was at. I would be walking down halls and then suddenly I would feel pain and when I would look where the pain was, typically my back there were scratches."
His interest peaked now Naru narrowed his eyes. "Did you ever take pictures of these scratches?"
Nodding Rina reached in her bag and handed him several different pictures of scratches. "They would all be deep enough to draw blood. But this is what scared me the most. This happened in the middle of the night, right before her third birthday."
Mai had been standing off to the side with Ling and stepped up behind Naru when she handed him her cell phone and gasped at what she saw. There was a white mist hovering over the baby and lifting her! Like it was trying to lift her out of the crib. When Rina ran in the baby fell to the bed and started crying and the second that Rina picked her up the door slammed shut.
But what bothered Mai the most was she saw a form in that white mist. The form of a woman!
"I kept Hiroko with me all night that night. I looked at the clock at three am right before I dosed off. I woke up to the sound of her screaming and it said 3:15. I rushed from my bedroom to the living room where she was sucked through a cloud of smoke into the wall. I hear her. I can hear her crying in my house. I hear her calling out for me. For her father. But I can't find her! I have put so many holes in all my walls. I couldn't call the police. I know where she is. I just can't find her! Please you have to help me!"
Naru looked at the video on her phone again. There was something that was there, and it did seem to target the child. And for the child to act the way she was saying she acted, the child was most likely a medium like Masako. "Mai."
"Yeah?"
"Get her address and call everyone here. As soon as they are here we will leave."
"So we are taking this one?"
"Yes." His eyes narrowed as he watched the video for a third time. "Mrs. Houshi your daughter is probably a medium. Depending on the level of power she has, it would draw in entities that are demonic in nature. Most will seek out the children and try to possess them to do their bidding through a gifted child. However since you can still hear her crying and just can't find her they have not been able to do so yet."
"Do you really think that you can find her?"
Standing as he handed her the cell phone back he turned his back to her and walked toward his office. "I will try."
Mai sighed as she turned to look at the still distraught woman. "Don't worry so much Ma'am. It isn't just the three of us. Her older brother is here. As well as a catholic priest, a monk and a shrine maiden. And if we can get her to come, we have worked with Masako Hara as well."
"I see."
With a smile Mai got the woman's address then went to her desk and pulled out her cell phone. "I can only hope that we can get Masako to come."
Watching as Mai dialed the first number Ling blinked. "Why wouldn't she if you worked with her before?"
Putting the phone to her ear she sighed. "Because she wants Naru and can't stand the fact that he chose me over her."
"Hello Mai? How are you today?"
"I am good John. We need you for another case."
"Really? What is this one about?"
"A woman watched her three year old daughter get kidnapped by a white mist and sucked inside her wall of her house."
"What!? When does Naru want to leave?"
"As soon as you get here."
"Alright. I am right near where Ayako is. I will get her."
"Good then I will call Monk and try to get Masako. Naru thinks that the girl might be a medium."
"That would be a good idea. See you soon Mai."
"Thanks John." Hanging up the phone she smiled. "Well that is two. John is coming for sure and he is going to bring Ayako. Now for Monk."
"Mai! So when is the wedding?"
"We have only been dating a few weeks! We aren't getting married yet! Geesh we got a case and….it is important Monk."
"What?"
"A little girl kidnaped by mist and sucked into the wall of her own home and the kid might be a medium."
"Damnit. Doesn't he get any easy cases. And preferably one that doesn't have kids. We are meeting there at the office right?"
"Yep."
"On my way."
Hanging up the phone Mai sighed as she dropped her head. "Now I gotta call Masako. Oh man this is not going to be fun."
"Surely she will come to help seeing as it is a missing child at steak here."
Looking up at Ling she smiled. "She may at that but I know she is going to be trying to start with me over Naru. But it is her own fault that he was pushed away. I am glad in a way but she really did do it to herself."
"How so?"
"She knew who he was the second that she saw him. She knew he wasn't Kazuya Shibuya but instead Oliver Davis. She used the fact he didn't want anyone to know to blackmail him into going out on dates with her. When he finally decided that he was going to tell me how he felt about me, and who he really was she was irate cause he chose me over her."
Reaching over the desks Ling smiled as she took Mai's cell phone. "Then I will call her."
"Hello Oliver? Or Mai?"
"Neither this is Ling."
"What do you want?"
"We just had a lady come in and ask us for our help. Her daughter has been kidnapped by a ghost and sucked her into the walls of her home. Her mother can hear her crying. Naru thinks that the little girl might be a medium like you. We could sure use your help with it."
"Will Mai be there with him?"
"Yes but what does that have to do with saving a little girl?"
"I will not be coming. I will wish them luck in prayers but I will not be there. Not until he changes his choice."
Blinking as Masako hung up the phone Ling did slowly. "She said if you were not going to be there that she would come. But she won't if you are there. At least until he changes his choice."
Crossing her arms as she slumped back in the chair Mai glared at the desk. "She is so stuck on herself it is crazy. She always was I used to think it was just cause she was on TV now I know it is cause she is just a bad seed as mom used to say." Then she dropped her head. "Come on. I know what order he is going to give next. Start getting everything ready to leave."
"At least you don't have to do it alone now."
"Yeah I know right."
