A/N: Finally, we've come to the last chapter O_O This took me sooo long to write, but I'm glad I stuck with it and finished :D
On Friday afternoon, Token sat in Craig's living room watching him in a staring contest with his baby sister. "She's really holding her own with you," Token noticed in amazement.
"She's a Tucker," Craig responded. "We're masters in the art of the blank stare."
Just then, somebody banged on the front door, causing Craig to flinch. "Fuck," he stated flatly.
"Looks like we have a winner," Token grinned as he answered the door.
"Hey, guys!" Clyde smiled widely with Megan in his arms. "Hi, Ruby!" he spoke in a saccharine-sweet voice. "Uncle Clyde brought your best friend Megan over to play with you! Now, what do you say?"
Ruby flipped him off.
"Good girl," Craig patted her on the head. Then he let out a sigh.
"What's wrong?" asked Token.
"Have we done enough with the other guys?"
"What do you mean?" Clyde asked. "We all hung out together yesterday."
"Yeah, but we didn't really do anything. I dunno…it just doesn't feel like we're a tight group yet."
"You want a hug, bro?" Clyde offered.
"Ugh…why do I bother opening up to you?"
"No, I think you have a point, Craig," said Token. "We should do something memorable to cement our expanded bro circle…and I think I have a good idea what."
…
Red stood sorting through clothes in a South Park Mall department store. "What do you think about this one?" she pulled a pale yellow dress off the rack. "Is it a little too frilly?"
"I can't see it in here," Kevin called from a dressing room.
"I think I'll take it," she decided. "You can never have too much lace."
"Well, what do you think?" he stepped out in a light blue silk-linen blend blazer with matching slacks.
"Looking good!" she whistled in approval. "Definitely an improvement over your Star Wars costumes."
"I'm going to pretend I didn't hear that," Kevin feigned insult.
"Admit it: you like this new look," Red smirked.
"I do feel pretty stylish," he smiled bashfully. "Thanks for inviting me, Bertha. I've never been clothes shopping for fun before. Usually, my mom just takes me for the back-to-school sales."
"Your mom can only dress you geeky," she told him. "I can dress you geek chic."
"Psst!" Kevin heard a noise a few feet away. He looked past Red and saw Tweek's head poking out of a round rack of khaki pants. The twitchy boy's eyes darted back and forth, then he quickly waved his target over.
"Um…I'll be right back," said Kevin as he made his way to the rack. "Hey, Tweek."
"Get in! Hurry!" he shouted.
Kevin did as he was told and found Thomas also hiding inside the circle of slacks. "What's going on?"
"Craig just called and said Token's having a guys' night tomorrow," Tweek spoke in a hushed voice.
"We're all invited—us three, Craig and Clyde," Thomas continued.
"That sounds great! Why are you two hiding, though?"
"The underpants gnomes!" Tweek grabbed Kevin's shoulders.
"Underpants gnomes?"
"Tweek said they've stolen most of his underwear, so he came here to buy more," Thomas explained.
Suddenly, somebody started rustling through the khakis on the outside.
"GAH! They're onto us, man!" Tweek ran out.
"SHIT!" Thomas followed.
"OK…see you tomorrow night, then," Kevin backed out of the clothing rack and returned to Red.
"What was that?" she wondered.
"I'm not completely sure, but I did get invited to a guys' night at Token's house tomorrow."
"All right! Now you have an excuse to show off your new wardrobe. I bet Clyde'll be impressed," she winked.
"You think so?" he asked shyly.
"Aw…are you blushing?" Red cooed.
"No," Kevin hid his face as she giggled in delight.
The next evening, Kevin put on his new outfit, paired with a white button-down shirt and black dress shoes. He stood in front of his bedroom mirror adjusting his tie.
"Don't you think you're a little overdressed for a sleepover?" Esther poked her head in the door.
"It isn't just a sleepover," he answered. "It's a guys' night. I want to look cool."
"You look like Psy," she chuckled.
"He's cool, right?"
"Cooler than Star Wars, anyway."
Kevin eyed his twin sister suspiciously. "Do you and Bertha share a quantum entanglement?"
"Sorry, we have a language barrier. I don't speak Geekanese."
He playfully stuck his tongue out at her.
They heard a car horn honking outside, so Esther ran to the living room window to investigate. "Whoa!" she shouted.
Kevin ran to find out what the big deal was and saw a stretch limo parked in front of the house. "Think they're lost?" he wondered.
Then they saw an unmistakable chullo-clad boy stepping out of the back seat and walking up to the front door.
Kevin hurried to open it. "Craig…hi."
Craig gave Kevin's new outfit a once-over, then offered a short, ambiguous, "Hm."
"Uh…I thought I'd be seeing you at Token's tonight."
"We decided to swing by and pick you up instead."
"Awesome! Hey, Esther, looks like I'll be riding in style—Gangnam Style," Kevin joked.
"Oh, brother…" she rolled her eyes.
"C'mon, everybody's waiting," Craig hurried Kevin along.
He grabbed his backpack full of all his sleepover essentials and headed to the limousine.
"Hey, Kevin," the other guys greeted him inside.
"Neat clothes, dude," Clyde complimented him.
"Thanks," he smiled. "This is really nice of you, Token, but you didn't have to go so much trouble. I could've just walked to your house."
"We aren't going right to my house," he said. "Our first activity for the night is playing laser tag at Super Phun Thyme."
"Wow! That sounds…well, super fun, but maybe I should change into something a little better for running around in."
"Too late," Craig closed the door and knocked on the glass partition, signaling the chauffeur to drive off.
…
Once the boys arrived, Token paid for the group, then they all suited up with their target vests and laser guns, entering the nighttime arena with six rival players.
"This is a team elimination game," the moderator explained over the intercom. "Players try to tag members of the opposing team. If you get tagged, you're out. The last team standing wins."
The two teams went to neutral corners of the arena to strategize. "OK, guys," Craig said, "let's use these surroundings to our advantage by hiding behind large objects when they're available. And don't try to tag an opponent unless you think you have a clear shot." He held his hand out and the rest of the team put their hands over his. "One, two, three…"
"Go!" they all shouted and split up to cover more ground, while the other team set to skulking in the shadows.
Thomas hid behind a large boulder and tried to keep quiet. Unfortunately, he was unable to control his mouth. "COCK!" he yelled, attracting the attention of a rival player who quickly tagged him out.
Having witnessed the defeat of his teammate, Tweek started to panic. "Oh man, they're gonna get me! I can't take the pressure!" He ran out in the open in an attempt to escape, all in vain as another opponent tagged him.
Craig's remaining team came to the conclusion that they couldn't just wait around any longer to be picked off. The four of them were on the move in search of targets. Clyde and Token each managed to take out a player, but Clyde's slightly pudgier physique eventually slowed him down and he was tagged out.
Craig soon got his first shot of the night, and Token was able to score his second tag. The rich boy caught a tough break, though, when he tripped in the middle of running, sealing his fate.
Kevin and Craig were the only players left standing on their team. "I feel like part of the Rebel Alliance and we're fighting the Storm Troopers," Kevin said enthusiastically.
"Don't lose focus," Craig reminded him.
"Right." Kevin allowed himself to listen and watch for any sign of movement. He picked up on the faint sound of footsteps and could see a shadow moving from that direction. "Over there," he whispered and pointed. They crept toward the silhouetted figure from behind. "Gotcha!" Kevin shouted. As the kid turned around exposing his target vest, Kevin pointed his laser gun and tagged him out.
"Good shot, Stoley," Craig arched his eyebrows.
"Thanks. I think I'm—" Kevin stopped mid-sentence as he saw their last opponent climbing atop a boulder with his gun pointed.
"What?" Craig turned to look.
As the rival player began to pull the trigger, Kevin dove in front of Craig, taking the hit for him. Realizing what happened, Craig pulled his laser gun out in a flash and tagged the kid. "Game over."
"Sweet!" Clyde exclaimed as the rest of their team ran to join the two boys. "You guys won us the game!"
"Who's up for a victory dinner at Casa Bonita?" Token asked.
"Tacos!" Clyde pumped his fist in excitement.
"Yeah!" they all cheered as Craig and Kevin were lifted on the other guys' shoulders and carried off to the limo.
…
At the restaurant, Kevin took extra care not to get any food on his brand new clothes. Clyde, on the other hand, took no such precautions and spilled taco sauce all over his shirt and pants.
After dinner, they all headed to the waterfall and watched the cliff divers. Then they walked through Black Bart's Cave, which made Tweek nearly jump out of his skin. Finally, they finished off in the arcade with a little skeeball.
…
After changing into their pajamas back at Token's house, everybody settled into the Blacks' home surround sound theater to watch a marathon of the three original Star Wars movies.
"This is fantastic," Kevin said during the ending credits to A New Hope. "Watching the best films ever made with a bunch of great friends…" He sighed wistfully. "There's only one thing missing," he pulled out his picture of Bradley.
"He'll be back," Token assured him. "He promised he would."
"And we aren't going anywhere," Clyde swore. "You're stuck with us now, Kev," he pulled him in for a bro hug.
Kevin felt a little timid at first, but then he smiled and hugged back.
…
Late in the night, the boys all snuggled into their sleeping bags. From left to right, Token, Clyde, Kevin, Craig, Tweek, and Thomas lay in a row on Token's bedroom floor.
Long after most of them had fallen asleep, Craig and Kevin were still awake.
"Kevin?" Craig whispered.
"Yeah?"
"Thanks for…y'know…the laser tag thing."
"Hey, you saved me from that bully at Space Camp."
"Well, you don't need saving anymore."
"Thanks to you," said Kevin. "Not even a month ago, I was all on my own. But you took me under your wing and taught me how to stand up for myself. You helped me when I couldn't do it alone."
"What can I say?" Craig shrugged. "You wore me down with your persistent friendliness."
"I mean it, Craig. You gave me a life outside of my solitary existence. How can I ever repay you?"
"Easy," he said. "Just be my friend. That's all I ever want in return."
Kevin nodded in appreciation, then yawned. "Goodnight, Craig."
"Goodnight, Kevin." As Craig watched his friend drift off to sleep, he thought about how much he had to thank Kevin for. He showed Craig how to open up to people, and that he didn't have to be so serious all the time. Most of all, Craig wanted to thank Kevin for being a friend to him from the very beginning, even when the stoic boy pushed him away. He could tell him in the morning, though. For the time being, he'd just fall sleep and dream of collecting rock specimens on the moon with his Jedi partner by his side.
THE END
A/N: Maybe it's because I found the ending touching, or because I'm going on my hiatus from writing now, or because I've been up for so many hours finishing this, but I was actually on the verge of tears here T_T I hope you all liked it! Thank you so much for reading, reviewing, following, and/or favoriting :-)
