Chapter 13: Open Wounds

It was Shippo who had come to her that night to give her a lift back. Ever since seeing Kurama again, it was like everything had flash back to the point when she had found out about what he had done behind of her back and all those emotions are not back with her as she locks herself up in Shippo's place. He did not send her back to any of her own homes, deeming it safer if Kagome were to remain by his side, at least if Kurama or Shuichi were to try doing anything, he would be there and able to protect her just about at anytime.

She could laugh at herself if it were not for the pain in her heart, throwing herself too deep into the relationship with Kurama. Kagome had thought that he was really "The One", his kind gentleness, and nurturing nature as well as that gentlemanly behavior, and most importantly, she did not need to live in fear of her past with him. He was the one that she could openly share her past with and not be hindered by it or thought of as an insane and delusional person in need of much medical and psychological care. Instead, he trampled all over it with his secretary. The way the other woman had looked at her with triumph in her eyes made her blood boil, but the sight of him looking so shock told her it was not the first time especially with how familiar he seemed to be of the other's body. To top it off, instead of rejecting what she had shouted at him, he slapped her right across the face, and before the tears could fall, Kagome turned and ran away.

At first, Kagome thought that with time the pain will lessen, but it was not the truth, often drama and various other written works, most female would have forgiven early in the stage that she was currently still in and forgive the other, giving him a second chance, only to end up in marriage. Something that Kagome highly doubt, but even more so, how could the pain be too damn excruciating that she felt as though she was being eaten alive and it was far worse than dying or even attaining injuries on the battlefield. In fact she would have preferred!

Kagome curled her body together even more tightly wanting to hug herself as she shut her eyes tightly, hiding her face with her hands as Shippo carried her. What a sorry state that she was currently in, who would have thought that the most painful wound and injury of all would be when it concerns 'love'. Something that she had thought figured out, but in the end, still clueless and constantly being hurt by it. How foolish was she to think that he was so perfect, it was all just a dream and one that has now turned into a nightmare.

Shippo heard Kagome sobbing silently with his own heightened senses and the scent of her tears weaving out and invading the scent of his house with it, slowly filling it with her sorrow. In his mind he was torn for the woman who had brought him up no matter how short the time and indulge in his childish needs and care for him like a sister and a mother, it was time for him to take some actions against the one that had caused her the most sorrow.

"Get me everything on the kitsune avatar Youko Kurama, Minamino Shūichi, by tomorrow morning," was his strict order to the person on the other end of the phone before shutting it with a loud clasp.

Shippo calmed the fury that was threatening to spill out in him as he knocked softly on her room door before entering. Kagome had immediately stopped sobbing but it was still there with the way her body would shake and quiver ever so gently as he watched with saddened eyes.

"Kagome," he whispered, "I'm coming in," he said, lifting the side of her blanket as he slipped into bed with her, hugging her body closely to his as he whispered to her.

"I'm here, I'll always be here," was his gentle promise as he let her cry into his chest whilst he gently cradled her form against his, his hand combing through her raven tresses, softly whispering more words of comforts to her.

It took a while, but when she finally fell asleep, Shippo remained awake to guard her, and think through of what must be done carefully to not hurt her anymore.
