"Professor Martin Davis, as I'm sure you're aware there have been several rumors regarding your son and one of his students. We have been unable to contact him but were hoping you could shed some light on the truth to help us decide wether it is necessary to hold an official meeting to determine his objectivity." Said a plump man with glasses hanging sitting atop a rather large and red nose. He looked at Martin expectantly.

All of the sudden Mai couldn't breath. She tried to scream but her voice wouldn't come out. She shot up into a sitting position and all of the sudden she could breath again.

Naru came running into the room followed closely by the boys. They were rewarded with the sight of toe very tired girls in pajamas with messy hair unhappy about being woken up. That and Mai coughing and wheezing, still trying to catch her breath. She was breathing loudly unable to get enough air into her lungs.

"What is it? What happened?!" Naru demanded.

Ashley and Amy were at a loss for words. To be fair so was Mai but more so because she didn't think she was capable of forming them at the moment. So she chose to ignore him and breath. After a moment of looking around and calming down. Everyone gathered around Mai eager to hear what happened, but Mai had no answer she instead decided that she was in the mood to escape reality so she collapsed back down onto her mattress.

And immediately it was happening all over again. She couldn't breath, black spots danced I front of her eyes. But there was something else too. She felt scared. Maybe she felt this the first time too but was too panicked to worry about it. Before she could do anything to help herself. Someone grabbed her shoulders and pulled her until she was standing a foot away from her mattress clutching that person, coughing and trying to force as much air into her lungs as possible. Her eyes stung and her knees felt weak.

She was clutching Naru.

Ten minutes later Mai was in the base and Matt had made tea, very bitter tea. Mai took another sip.

Everyone was bleary eyed and yawning while exchanging theories.

"Maybe it was because she was laying down," Ashley tried, still in her pajamas and bunny slippers.

"Or it could be the act of trying to sleep in itself." Amy, who was in a similar state of disarray, added. She was wearing glasses, she must wear contacts during the day.

"What if it knew Mai could see it when she was asleep so it's trying to keep her from falling asleep" Matt said in a moment of self-proclaimed eureka.

Naru say back silently watching the exchange if ideas before putting forth his own. But Mai beat him to it.

"I was scared." She said in a suspicious voice that was lost on the three workers.

Amy looked sympathetic, "I'm sure that must have been very traumatic. Professor Davis will probably let you go home if you can't handle it. " Amy knew it from the minute she saw Mai. She was a little girl playing with fire. Well better she back out now if she can't handle field work.

Mai looked up at her confused. "No I wasn't scared, someone else was scared and I felt it." She looked at the faces of the team not following Naru looked up at her with a knowing half smirk. The other half might have been a satisfied smile, the kind, proud smile Gene would give her. But just as soon as she saw it, his smile was hidden behind a tea cup and replaced by disdain as he took a bitter sip. "I don't think this is haunting by a malicious spirit at all think it's by a victim projecting being scared and maybe dying. We need to call Yasu so he can..." Mai paused. Yasu isn't here, this isn't old times. God, why was she so stupid. Monk isn't here to pick her up and Ayako isn't here to patch her up. Yasu certainly isn't here to tell her she did a good job.

Matt either didn't catch her mistake or decided to cover for her, either way she was grateful. "I have the owner history in my room. I'll go grab it. Amy, Ashely can you guys go get that butler we need to see what he knows to."

Mai wasn't entirely sure the butler was needed or that Matt could give these kinds of commands but Ashley and Amy went looking for the butler.

Which left Mai and Naru alone. She was unsure of what to say or do. She stood up and examined herself in the mirror. Messy hair, bags under her eyes, and the beginning of an angry purple bruise peeking out from the neckline of her t shirt. "She was definitely strangled." Mai said, almost to herself.

"You need to be more careful." This time it came out in a tired voice. Mai was shocked when she saw Naru rubbing his eyes. "A minute longer and you would have died." This time if was just a fact no emotion at all.

"I'm glad it happened." Mai said

"Of course you are"

"It doesn't hurt." Mai said touching the bruises on her neck, lightly.

"Yes it does."

"I know," she said with the same tired voice Naru had used earlier.
