Ch 13: Leila Williams Sandoval
Ana and Christian got up the next day and went to Company to have something to eat. They were there talking about possibly selling their villa in SC. Since Christian wasn't working yet he wanted to get up some money and selling the villa seemed like the thing to do.
"So you're okay with selling the villa even though it was a wedding gift," Christian asked his wife.
"Kind of. I know your mother was trying to be nice, but it seemed as though she only gave it to us to use us for herself. I just think if we're going to break ties with that part of the family, we should do it right." Ana replied to her husband.
"Easy come easy go, right?" he asked her.
"Yeah. Besides almost getting shot at in SC makes me think we won't be going there much anyway."
"Okay. I will call a realtor and put it up for sale then," Christian told her.
"Oh, no, Christian, don't do that," a woman's voice said as she came over to their table. "I really liked that house, please don't sell it."
Ana looked at her husband as she asked quietly, "Isn't that your ex?"
"Yeah, it is." He told Ana. He got up from their table as he greeted the young lady. "Hey, how are you doing?" he asked her.
"I'm great, how are you?" she asked.
"Good. Leila, I want you to meet my wife Ana," he told her who looked back at Ana.
"I heard you got married. Congratulations to you both," Leila told them. "It's nice to meet you Ana."
"Likewise," Ana replied to the woman.
They all sat down as Christian and Leila talked to each other a bit. She told Christian she was sorry she couldn't make it to their party as she was so tired from her trip. He asked how long she was in town for.
"I'm moving back believe it or not. My dad had called me and told me about Nino and the fact that he wasn't doing a good job with dad's finances, so I offered to help him. You know, since we're in the business, maybe you could help me out some."
"Actually, Christian, isn't in the business anymore," Ana told Leila.
"Oh?" she asked, looking back at Christian for confirmation.
"Yeah, I got out," he told his former girlfriend.
Liela laughed out loud. "Oh my gosh, he even said that with a straight face. You're very good at that!"
Both Christian and Ana looked at her curiously. "No, it's true, I got out." He confirmed again. "Now that Ana and I are married, it was time for me to leave and branch out on my own."
"Oh well then. If that's what you want then I'm happy for you. So what will you do now?" Leilla asked.
"I have no idea to be honest. I'm just going to go with the flow," he told her.
"That's great if you can make a living that way more power to ya. Oh my gosh, speaking of going with the flow, guess who I ran into while I was in LA?"
"Who?" he asked.
"The master himself," Leila told Christian, knowing he'd know exactly whom she was talking about.
"Jimmy Montoya? No way! I haven't seen him in ages! Where did you see him?"
Leila explained that their old friend was living in LA. Christian remarked that he hadn't seen him in years. She explained to Ana that the three of them were inseparable in high school and that they were the three musketeers. They never went anywhere without each other.
"Although, Christian was the big time concert promoter and we were his slaves," she told Ana.
"That is just so not true," he told Leila, laughing.
"What? You never told me about that honey," Ana told her husband looking at him.
"It wasn't that much of a big deal. I never told you about that?" he asked Ana as she told him no.
"Oh excuse me, it was a big deal. He was great at it. He had a knack for knowing who was good or not. He even was approached by two record producers before he was even eighteen."
Ana was shocked to learn that her husband had a background in music production. "Well, I'm impressed. How come you never pursued it even further?"
"Because my family needed me. So, um, Leila, what is Jimmy up to these days?"
"Prepare yourself, he's producing record deals as we speak!" she told him excitedly. She explained that he had his own studio now and was the biggest producer in LA.
"That's awesome. I'm so happy for him," Christian told her.
"He tells everyone that he learned all of this from watching you, Christian."
"Oh please," he replied.
"After all these years, you are still his idol," she explained proudly.
"Well you tell him that I'm happy for him," he told Leila.
"I have a great idea, why don't I get in touch with him and see if he would have a spot for you. I'm sure he would love for you and him to work together again."
"Um...no, that's okay," he told her.
"Why not? I mean you're looking for work, this may be the best fit." Leila encouraged.
"I agree with her. Why don't you try this honey?" Ana asked her husband.
"Maybe, let me think about it," he told Leila. "Although it would be nice to play a few rounds of miniature golf," he hinted.
"Oh my gosh, you are so bad!" Leila exclaimed laughing. "Did he tell you about the time he stole the windmill off the golf course?" Leila asked Ana.
"No, he hasn't. It looks like I have a lot to learn about my husband." Ana told his ex.
Christian leaned back and looked back at Ana. "You know that's one of the many great things about marriage, we have a lifetime to learn about each other," he told her winking at Ana.
The two shared a kiss with each other while Leila looked at the couple. Christian's cell rang interrupting them.
"I better take that, it's my accountant. Excuse me for a moment," he told the girls as he got up and left the table.
"I better go with him," Ana told Leila.
"Actually, Ana, I'd like a moment with you if you don't mind," Leila told her. "I think we need to talk," Leila said, in a serious tone.
"Um...sure what's up?" Ana asked, as she sat back down.
"I just wanted to say I'm sorry talking about old times with Christian. That was very rude and insensitive of me, I wasn't trying to leave you out. I just haven't seen him a long while. Can you keep a secret?"
"Okay," Ana was hesitant.
"I've never seen him this happy before and I know it's because of you. I'm just glad he found someone he could share his life with."
"So this music thing, was he really good at that?"
"The best. He had a gift for knowing talent when he saw it."
"I'm just kind of curious why he didn't pursue that instead of going into the family business."
"It was more about honor to him. Ever since I've known Christian he is very much into loyalty. I'm sure that's truer now since his father and brother are gone."
"Yeah, I can understand that. But, you know there comes to a point time in your life where they have to break free from the family and form their own life," Ana told Leila.
"Well it looks like I'm going to have to find work as soon as possible," he told the girls interrupting their talk.
"I hope it isn't too bad," Leila told Christian.
"We have enough for now, but if I don't get a job soon the money will disappear sooner than I expected."
"There's always the music. I'm sure if I gave Jimmy a call he'd love to see you," Leila insisted.
"Let me give it some thought, okay?" he asked Leila.
"Sounds good. I better get going but first I wanted to say that I'm sorry about Elliot. He was a great guy and will be missed." Leila told him.
"Thanks, I appreciate that."
"It was nice to meet you, Ana. I hope that we can get to know each other really soon."
"I'd like that, thanks!" Ana told Leila.
Christian gave Leila a quick hug as she left the establishment. Christian looked back at Ana in amazement.
"Your amazing you know that," he told his wife.
"Why?" she asked, looking back at him.
"Because, most wives wouldn't be that excited in meeting their husbands ex girlfriends."
"Oh please. I liked her she was nice," Ana replied back as they shared another kiss.
Meanwhile Leila had just walked outside of Company and ran into Ben.
"Fancy meeting you here. How's Christian?" Ben asked Leila.
"In all the years I've known him he's known exactly where he was going and now he seems lost. That little brat that he's married to is totally oblivious to it." Leila snarly told Ben.
"You do know how they met don't you?" he asked her.
"Actually I don't. Do you?" she asked.
"Let's not talk here. Give me a few minutes to get some food and we can continue this discussion. Meet me at my car in a five minutes." Ben told Leila.
She left to go to Ben's car and waited for him. Just as Ana and Christian were leaving they ran into Ben.
"Christian," Ben said, as they walked out the door.
"Ben," Christian replied.
"How are you enjoying your new life? Pretty good I hope," Ben replied, sarcastically.
Christian got into Ben's face and asked, "What's that supposed to mean? If you have something to say, then say it to my face," Christian growled.
Ben smiled at Christian. "I just came here to get some lunch. Pardon me," he told him going around Christian.
Ana and Christian went to Fifties because Kate had called her earlier wanting to meet with them. Once there, Ana was surprised that she did not greet them at the door. Although, Christian's mind was still on Ben.
"Honey, can you just let it go, please?" Ana asked her husband.
"I'm sorry. I just hate running into him. We've only moved out of the house and yet we ran into at Company. He's like a virus that won't go away."
"Okay, I get that. But just say to yourself Ben who? I mean we're not in the business anymore, right?"
"But my mom and Mia still are. Never mind, I'll try to do better." He told Ana.
"Hey, you two!" Kate said coming towards them with Jose. Kate gave Ana a hug and thanked them for coming by. "We have some really big news we wanted to share."
They all sat down at a nearby table. "So, tell me the good news," Ana told her friend.
"First of all, my mom's coming home!" she said excitedly as Ana hugged her again. "She still needs therapy to which Buzz is going to help her and I'm so happy for them," Kate told Ana.
"That's awesome!" Ana replied back.
"That's not all. You know how I found out I was adopted right?" she asked Ana, who nodded. "After I found that out I went on a search for my father. Well, I don't have to look anymore. I found him!"
Ana was so happy for her friend. "Oh, Kate, I'm just so happy for you. Who is he?"
"Actually he lives here in Seattle, he's been here all this time. In fact you two live with him," Kate began explaining to them as Ana and Christian were shocked. "Who are you living with? Ben. Ben is my real father."
Ana and Christian were stunned. No, this can't be. It has to be a mistake.
"A-are you sure?" Ana asked her friend. "Did you do a DNA test?"
"Ben ordered it actually. He wanted to know as we got to talking about Max and that's how it all got started. I told him my history about being adopted and that I just found my biological mom Selena. That's when I found out he and Selena once had a relationship and birthed a child. Me." Kate continued to explain. "But the DNA test confirmed it. He's my real father, isn't that great!"
Kate got up and left to make sure the food she ordered for her mothers homecoming would be done. While she was gone, Christian began to tell Jose that her and Ben having any kind of relationship is poisonous.
"Jose, you have to got to do something about this relationship between Kate and Ben. He will destroy her life," Christian pointed out.
"What do you what me to do man? She's excited about this and he's been good to her."
"Yeah for now until he wants something." Christian replied.
"Look, I know you two aren't too fond of the guy," he started saying.
"That's an understatement." Ana replied.
Jose looked at Ana, "Your her best friend. Rather you like it or not he is her father and she needs your support," he told them both.
"But he's no good for her," Christian told Jose.
"Christian just let it go. It's none of our business anyway," Ana encouraged her husband to be quiet.
Kate returned and asked them what they thought about Ben.
"I'm just happy for you, Kate," Ana replied to her friend. "How does Grace feel about this? Does she know?"
Kate sat down and told them that Grace does know. "Yeah, that's probably the only thing I am worried about. No offense to you Christian, but your mother can be quite difficult."
"None taken."
"Oh my goodness, I just thought of something! If your mother and my father ever get married, you will be my stepbrother! How odd is that?" Kate joked but thought seriously.
Christian just about gagged at that thought. He liked Kate, but Ben left a bad taste in his mouth.
"Oh please, I don't even want to think about that!" he told kate.
"Oh it will be so great! We can have fun at family dinners and you both can keep an eye out on Grace for me," she told them.
"We don't do that anymore actually. We moved out and Christian left the family business," Ana shared with their two friends."
"Really?" Kate asked. "That's great. So what will you do now?"
"I'm not sure yet, but I have a few degrees under my belt. I'm sure something will turn up soon."
"Tell them about what happened today," Ana prompted her husband.
"What? Nothing happened." Christian told Ana.
"Kate might be able to help." She told him, hoping to encourage him a little.
"What? What is it? Tell me?" Kate asked, wanting to know what it was.
"Ana just learned that I had a little stint in the music business back when I was in high school. I ran into an old friend…"
"Girlfriend," Ana corrected her husband. Kate looked back at Ana curiously.
"Is she pretty?" Kate asked quietly.
"If you like that sort of put together type," Ana continued on.
"Why don't Christian and I leave you two alone so we can talk?" Jose suggested to the girls.
"Anyway," Christian said as he tried to continue, "There is a third person who has this sort of contact in the music industry…" he was trying to continue the conversation but couldn't.
"You know maybe Christian doesn't like that put together type, I mean after all he did break up with her," Ana continued on with Kate, ignoring the guys.
Christian sighed. Oh my god, why didn't I see this earlier? Is my wife jealous of my ex? "Ana, are you jealous of Leila?"
"No! Of course not!" she laughed. "If this woman can further your career, I am all for her she is fine by me," Ana told him encouragingly.
Kate looked back at Anastasia as she knew there was something up. But Ana mentally told her it was fine.
"You know Christian, my dad, is still in the business, I'm sure he could help." Kate told him.
Kate's adopted father Jacob Kavanaugh was very big in the LA area and has signed some major contracts lately.
"Oh yeah, your adopted father right?" Christian asked.
"I'm sure he would love to help you since you are a friend of mine. I could give him a call now."
"Um...no, don't do that!"
"Why not? Okay, I can give you his number, is that okay?"
"Let me think on it."
"Why won't you let Kate help help you?"
"Because this is moving rather too fast and I just wanted to sleep on it a little," he told Ana.
"Okay. But I can at least get you his number. I'll be right back," Kate got up and left.
Christian turned to face his wife. "Why are you so gung ho about this? Are you afraid that I will turn into one of those husbands who sits in his boxers all day watching daytime tv?"
"No, I'm not. I just think that this would be a great opportunity for you and I don't want you passing it up. Besides, I think you'd look sexy in your boxers," Ana winked.
"Yeah, yeah, keep digging that hole," he replied giving her a quick peck.
Jose interrupted their kiss. "Listen, I'm going to talk with Kate about those phone numbers. Be right back," Christian told Ana.
"I'm going to get a drink, do you want something?" Jose asked Ana.
"Iced tea. Thanks."
Christian went to talk with Kate about the phone numbers. They talked about it and Kate was excited for the both of them. He told her not to get to excited as he wasn't sure yet. Since Leila and Jimmy were from the old neighborhood he didn't want to get Ana's hopes up unless they were legit.
"I get it. You don't want to leave your family business and be right back into it. Why don't you let me make a phone call to check your friends out. Unless your worried about Leila?" Kate questioned.
"What do you mean? I'm not following," he told her.
"Well, this Leila girl turned up out of nowhere and all the sudden wants you in the music business. Are you sure she's not in it for her own pleasure?" Kate hinted to Christian about his old girlfriend.
"No. I'm sure she's not into me again. Leila is very business oriented and doesn't have time for a relationship. I think of her as an old friend, that's it."
"Okay. Then let me make the call." Kate told him as she left to get where it was quiet. She made her phone call the returned to Christian at the bar.
"Well?" he asked her.
"They're cool," she told him.
"Really? So they are legit?" he asked again, making sure.
"Yeah. I trust my source. So you're good to go. Be right back," she told Christian as she filled some orders.
He took the time to make a phone call to his ex telling her that he'd like to take her up on her offer. Leila was excited and told him she'd be in touch. She called their friend Jimmy and told him about Christian. Once they hug up, Leila decided to go to the Fifties club, she had this feeling that she'd run into Christian.
Kate came back to Christian saying, "So?"
"We're on, She's probably talking to Jimmy as we speak."
"So, tell me about this girl," Kate suggested.
"What do you want to know?"
"What kind of girl is this Leila person?" Kate asked.
"Oh, you know, she's the girl next door type. What do you want me to say exactly? She's just your basic run of the mill next door neighbor kind of girl," Christian told Kate.
"Christian, hey," Leila said, greeting her ex.
Kate and Christian turned toward the young brunette girl who spoke to him. So she's the run of the mill next door type of girl, huh? Really? At sluts are us, Kate asked herself looking book at Leila who seemed to be dressed to kill, so to speak.
A/N: Hey all, well it seems that Kate is not too impressed with this Leila person. Do you think she will cause problems with the newlyweds? There will be a pic of her in my album.
