Chapter Thirteen: Their Unity

Moments later, Sam comes out with all the hostage girls. Steve and Peggy quickly run over to see if any of them need any immediate medical attention before their quinjet comes to take them all back to SHIELD. All of them are in shock, but at least they could now calm down because the scary men can and will no longer harm them. They're free to be their own person again. When they're done the check-ups, Steve and Peggy stand back, waiting for SHIELD to show up and do their investigation on the place as well as contain whatever they could find here like the weaponry.

"Hey," Steve says to Peggy.

"What?" Peggy questions.

"Are you doing anything Saturday night?"

Peggy shakes her head. "I don't think so. Why?"

Steve smirks. "Because I'm going to ask you to marry me again."

Peggy's mouth opens in a delighted surprise. She almost forgot that was how he asked her the first time. And like before, it was in the middle of a battlefield. She realized that this was a tribute to Steve Rogers' character: a man of action who will never change the best qualities of himself no matter how much time progresses. In this case, it's his undying love. However, unlike the first time he asked, Peggy's heart swells in a heating passion instead of a confused fear. She always knew what Steve wanted but this time, she knows what she wants.

"No," Peggy replies.

"No?" Steve repeats, expecting a different answer. He does his best to ignore Sam's stifled laughter. It was better to him when he told her maybe.

"Captain Rogers, I'm asking you to marry me."

Steve raises an eyebrow, definitely not having seen this coming. He beams happily, knowing that this is the best way their proposal could've ever turned out.

"Agent Carter, I will not live another moment where we are not married," Steve replies. "Let's do it right here and right now."

"I want that as well."

They're both radiating giddily at one another, knowing that they have to get married at this instance. However, there didn't seem to be a way for that to happen considering where they are and how much time they have until their ride comes to get them. That is until Sam steps forwards and volunteers himself.

"You're ordained?" Steve asks in shock.

Sam nods. "I was bored one day during one of my college lectures and got ordained online during class. I haven't used my license yet but having you two as my first marriage would be perfect."

"What about witnesses?" Peggy asks.

Sam points at The Golden Dragon of Unity for the sake of jokes and then to the girls they just rescued with complete seriousness. The fact that they were going to be witnesses was vital because who knows how long they have been forced to witness or partake in the toxic marriages hosted here. At least now, they could see what a marriage between two people in love really looked like and how true love was truly presented in the world where it would seem almost impossible. The way how Steve would always put others before himself was one of the many reasons she fell in love with him.

"Steve Rogers," Peggy says, taking his hand into hers. "I would marry you over and over again."

Steve holds her interlocked hands with his free one as they face each other. They wait for a few seconds before facing Sam in sync. Sam is taken aback for a moment before realizing what they wanted.

"Oh, you wanted me to start?" Sam asks rhetorically. "I thought you two were having another moment."

The couple glares at him, prompting Sam to clear his throat.

"Ladies," Sam says, gathering all of their attention. "I hope you understand what I'm saying because I do not speak your language. Anyways, we are all gathered here today at the victory of a mission to celebrate the joining of Captain Steve Rogers and Agent Peggy Carter becoming one in the eyes of...The Golden Dragon of Unity. Now, because we are running low on time due to our ride coming soon and the lack of rings and flower girls, we're just going to fast-forward to the vows. Steve?"

Steve looks at him. "Why do I have to go first?"

"Because I said so."

"Fine." Steve faces his bride, his partner, his best girl. She has cuts, she's exhausted, and her hair is a mess, but she's the most beautiful bride he could've ever asked for. "Peggy Carter, I came out of the ice not sure how my life was going to be in this new era and there were times where I wanted to go back under. But then, I met you and it was like the sun shone bright again. I knew I was interested in you and almost right away, I knew that I wanted to marry you. You're a woman ahead of her time which is exactly what I needed to help me catch up. And whatever way I end up going, I know for a fact that it will always lead back to you."

Peggy wipes the tears forming in her eyes. The girls are all swooning with happiness on their faces. Sam's even wiping some tears.

Peggy takes a breath as she faces her groom. When she was a little girl, she always thought her groom would be wearing a sharp tuxedo on their wedding day, but seeing Steve in his torn-up Captain America uniform couldn't be more sharp.

"If anyone asks," Peggy starts, "we met in the wrong order. I met you as a little girl and you met me when I was an adult. I grew up with stories of you. I loved the idea of you and what you represented. You inspired me when you didn't even know me. Meeting you solidified when I knew. Without you, I wouldn't be where I am today. I knew that being in a relationship with you would be tough, but it's the kind of mission I want. You're the right partner and I never want to lose you again, even if you planned to come back and not tell me."

Steve can't help but laugh a little. He can tell that in the future years of their married life, she will never let that one go.

"How did you two come up with those on the spot?" Sam asks, wiping his eyes on a handkerchief he didn't know he had. He takes a breath to quickly compose himself again. "Some say that falling in love that quick is impossible. Others say that falling in love in this line of work is impossible. You two have defied both of those odds by showing that there is only one way to truly fall in love while everyone around you tries to kill you: with wild abandon. Steve, do you love Peggy? Yes, with all of your heart. Peggy, do you love Steve? Of course, you do. Then, by the power invested in me and by me: I now pronounce you man and wife. Steve, you may kiss your bride."

Steve smiles happily as Peggy cheers to herself. He takes Peggy's head into her hands, cupping her just to gracefully kiss her. Peggy wraps her arms around his shoulders, kissing him passionately. This felt like their first kiss, their last kiss, and their only kiss all at once. It felt like the only kiss that matters because it's the only that symbolizes their unity as a married couple.

When they part, their eyes never leave each other as everyone cheers all around them. Still smiling, Steve and Peggy lean into one another.

"Were you wearing Sweet Dreams?" Steve asks her.

"I was earlier," Peggy says. Her eyes suddenly widened at the memory of her barely wiping it all off. Her fingers hover over her lips as she looks at him in shock. "I wiped it off but did I just poison you?"

"If you did, I will die happily."
