AN: Okay ladies, this piece had been finished over a week ago and I truly hoped that I would be able to write the second part of it, but life's been so hectic and crazy – all because it's Christmas time – that I have honestly no idea when I will be able to write again. Work is always in the way, add a writers block to it, a girlfriend, family, you know that real life sucks, right? ;) Anyways, I've decided to but this up as part one of the chapter – it's shorter but at least it's an update. I hope you don't mind?

AN2: I have also decided to let TIAM1 stay on here until the very last moment. I still plan to remove it, but that's not going to happen until 2014 has started. I cried over you telling me that you go back and re-read it. That's something I've never expected. So, THANK YOU!

Okay, enough with my rambles and on with the first part of this.

Arizona knew she probably shouldn't be this excited about her wife securing the first screw into the patient's tibia, but she was. She was literally sitting on the edge of her seat. Utterly mesmerized by the accurate, calm and concentrated work Callie was doing in the OR, the blonde held her breath without even knowing it. Yes, she had repeatedly told Callie that she would be able to do it and she honestly believed in the Latina's talent and knowledge, but frankly, even she hadn't thought that her lover would be this amazing. The blonde had seen the nerves in the woman she loved the most just seconds before she had requested the scalpel. She had seen the insecurities and every worry one could possibly have before doing the first solo surgery of their career, but now all of this seemed to be gone and what was left in its place was confidence. Callie glowed, she radiated, she oozed strength and authority in the OR. The few smiles that she had directed towards Arizona – though hidden behind the surgical mask, but noticeable through the Latina's shining eyes – had been enough for the blonde to know that her wife would ace this task.

When the second screw went into the bone, Arizona had to put her hands under her legs to prevent herself from chewing on her fingernails. One of the bad habits Callie couldn't get her to stop doing. The brunette had always hated it but Arizona often couldn't help to bite her nails when she was either nervous or anxious about something that was happening around her. And right now, her inner voice was rooting and chanting for her wife in the OR while she tried to remain calm on the outside. It was easier said than done, though. Not only was it beyond hot to see the Latina being in control like this, but also the guy – one of her fellow interns – in the row behind her was annoying the shit out of her as he kept on talking about the latest baseball matches.

"Man, she's all wrapped up in a surgical gown and yet she's hotter than all the times? I've seen her before", Dr. Alex Karev said as he sat down next to her, ripping open a package of sweets. "What's the deal with you and that chick? You're joined at the hips, are you best friends or something?"

Blue eyes narrowed immediately, glancing down to the sweets he was about to throw into his mouth. She could take the continuing hitting on her wife because in a very strange way she could understand it. If the woman downstairs rocking the surgery wouldn't already be her wife, she'd be hitting on her too. Callie was hot and everybody could see it, so someone being interested in the brunette wasn't really something that rare. But if someone would degrade her from the beautiful woman she was to just a 'chick', Arizona felt the instant need to snap at them and Karev was only one stupid remark away from making her do just that.

"I never thought I could be interested in Ortho, but damn, she makes me want to choose it. Can you imagine her breaking and fixing bones? Hot! Maybe I could get that hot chick to check my bones later, if you know what I mean. You think you can stay away from her for like half an hour or something?", he asked boldly.

And that was the last drop. Apparently, he had either forgotten about the glares she had been constantly given him or he was simply ignoring her. Turning her upper body around so she was fully facing him, Arizona ripped the little package out of his hands and threw them on the ground. "Listen, and I reckon you listen good", she warned, poking his chest with her index finger. "That 'chick' is my stunning, miraculous wife and you better stop any of your naughty thoughts right this second or your candy isn't the only thing lying on the ground. Got it, jerk?" She didn't wait for his answer and just turned back to follow the surgery again. Three screws were already holding the man's tibia together and the Latina prepared herself for the next. Blue eyes met brown for only a second as Callie looked up towards her and all the blonde could do was smile, again.

"So, you married a chick? How did that happen?", Alex asked. He had picked up the sweets from the ground, happily emptying what was left in the bag into his mouth and smiling at the blonde. He knew he was probably pushing the boundaries, but nobody would have the balls – metaphorically – to start a fight in the gallery when there was a surgery going on downstairs and attendings in the gallery.

"You became a doctor, how did that happen", Arizona countered snippy and without so much as looking at him. Her father had always told her to be the better person, to not let other peoples' words get to her and she always tried her best. So, deciding that calling him an idiot – between the lines – were the last words he would hear from her for a while, she tried to refocus on her wife and her task as another human being took in the seat on her other side. "Oh, what now?", she groaned and secretly prayed for whoever it was to just stay silent and mind their own business so she could continue to observe Callie rocking her first solo surgery.

The man sitting to the left of the blondenow smirked. "If this isn't the famous sass of Dr. Arizona Robbins", he whispered, having witnessed the whole encounter from the entrance, and waited for a reaction from the woman. And he was not going to be disappointed.

After hearing her maiden name, Arizona's head turned around, her golden tresses flying through the air and around her face. She hadn't been called Robbins in years. Sure, her parents – mostly her father – had unintentionally used it a couple of times, always when wanting to warn or chastise her. But at the hospital, everybody who knew her, knew her as Dr. Torres. "Mark?" God, she hadn't seen him since leaving Harvard.

"In the flesh", the man smiled and nudged the blonde's shoulder with his own. "It's good to see you, Arizona. And as I can see, you're still shooing away every guy that tries to hit on your girl." He had once been on the receiving end of her glares. It didn't take a genius to find out that her threats weren't empty and that she may be small in appearance, but that didn't mean she would not fight everybody brave enough to try and hit on the Latina. Not that hitting on Callie would have an effect on their relationship, because as far as he could remember, they were too strong as a team, survived college and med school and even he could say that they would end up being together until their very last breaths.

The former grumpiness had been replaced with a sheepish grin. "Of course. Gotta protect the one I love", she said, a broad smile lighting up the whole room. "What are you doing here? Are you-", she paused for a second and then laughed as she saw the badge secured to his scrubs. "Oh, you're the missing intern. I hope you brought a shovel because you should start digging your own grave or at least a hole to hide in. Bailey will most likely kill you."

"It wasn't my fault", he swore and raised his hands in defense. "I was on the plane and we were about to take off and then doter had a heart attack or something. His wife screamed my ears off and before I knew it, we were all ordered out of the plane. Trying to tell them that I had a job to get to didn't exactly work", she said.

"It wasn't exactly smart to book a flight for the night before you start the job, either", Arizona deadpanned. She knew how Mark worked. He had most likely thought that he could have some more free time on a beach, surrounded by girls in a bikini, and take the latest possibly flight to get here. It was just who he was and hadn't he been friends with Teddy for so long, there was a high chance she wouldn't even know him that well. She didn't have to like everything he did, but at least they got along quite okay. And maybe, just maybe some of his habits were gone. "So, how are things?"

"Same old, same old", the man smirked, rubbing the stopples of his beard. "You know I always get along, find some friends and everything. And hey, I even got into one of the best medical intern programs the states have to offer. I think I'm doing good."

The grin Arizona could see on the other doctor's face was the same he had back in college. Always kind of sheepish, as if he had his mind in the gutter or at least somewhere else. She wanted to ask if he had somehow managed to keep a relationship during med school – since he had always been moving from one girl to the next within a few weeks, his admittedly attractive appearance definitely helping him – but her train of thoughts was interrupted by the sound of clapping hands coming from the OR. Callie had finished her first surgery and she had missed the lastpart of it. However, the beaming smile evident in the Latina's brown orbs was enough to tell her that she had succeeded. Watching her wife leaving the OR without Dr. Shimmer, Arizona had only one thing in mind. "I gotta run, Mark", she said and was out of the chair and on her way down to her wife in a split second. Taking the stairs instead of waiting for the elevator, she sped down, only stopping when she was about to run into the door to the scrub room. She inhaled and exhaled deeply a few times before pushing the door open. "Hey", she breathed out, locking eyes with the woman through the mirror.

Spinning around, the brunette crossed the distance between them in two long strides, pressing herself against the blonde, hugging her wife as close as possible. She really wanted to kiss her, share the energy she felt from actually being a surgeon, but she didn't need the staff to see them through the window. Yet, she felt that Arizona wanted to do the same as she tenderly brushed her lips against a pale neck, feeling the beating pulse beneath the skin. "God, I really want to kiss you right now", she whispered.

Nodding in agreement, Arizona dug her fingers into the Latina's scrubs, holding her tight before reluctantly pulling away. "You were amazing!", she exclaimed. "You were just so... and then you opened his leg and then..." Trying to form a sentence from the thoughts rushing through her brain at lightning speed, but failing miserably, Arizona covered the blush that crept into her cheeks with a delightful giggling. "I just knew you could do it."

"I was so nervous", the brunette admitted. "I didn't even know how to answer his question about how I would start. I had no idea, everything went blank inside my head and then I looked at you and that helped. Thank you for being there."

Cupping her wife's cheeks with both hands, Arizona leaned her forehead against Callie's and sighed deeply. "That is nothing you have to thank me for, ever. Remember? If the going gets tough, it's you and me against the world. Always has been, always will be. Because I love you and you love me and-" The rest of her sentence was overpowered by a female voice neither of them wanted to hear right that second.

"TORRES!", barged Dr. Hahn into the scrub room, once again interrupting a quiet moment the couple had in between all the hectic that was going on in a hospital.

They practically jumped apart as the door flew open and Callie seriously wondered if that was the only way this woman knew how to open a door. Once again, she flinched a little, but despite her earlier thoughts to not say anything about it, she lost it. "What!?" She had enough, the stress from the last thirty-six hours getting the better of her, she crossed her arms defiantly over her chest before the other blonde could even say a word. Taking a few deep breaths, she softened her tone and asked, "What do you want, Dr. Hahn?"

"The chief told us to dismiss you all for today. He said that the fire in the orphanage and the craziness that came with it was a lot to take in for your first shift, or some crap like that, so you're free and he expects you to be back tomorrow evening for the night shift." Icy blue eyes flickered between the Latina and the younger blonde as her hand gripped the door handle tightly. "I don't think you dummies deserve it, but I can't go against his words."

She was about to leave and Callie thought she wasn't going to say anything about the surgery, but when Hahn turned around, the brunette knew she was wrong, so she did her best at preparing herself for more hateful or disrespecting words from her resident. In moments like that, she usually sought for the warmth of her wife's touch, whether it was holding hands or Arizona's hand on her arm or , she couldn't exactly do that right now, so she just told herself to not look away, to not show weakness.

"Good work", was all Dr. Hahn said and then she forcefully pulled the door close, leaving the two woman speechless until scrub nurses and Dr. Shimmer ripped them out of their thoughts. He once again complimented Callie on her good work before scrubbing out.

When they were alone again, the Latina slowly started to get rid of the surgical gown and began to scrub out. Her eyes locked on blue orbs through the mirror as she held her hands and arms under the spray of water. "Do you want to go home and order pizza or shall we go to the grocery store and get something I could cook real quick?", she asked before drying off her arms.

"Pizza", Arizona answered without a second thought. It wasn't really an answer to think about, she would always choose pizza over anything else. "Plus, I really, really", she started and slowly walked up to the Latina, watching her like she was her prey. Sweeping some dark strands behind the brunette's ear, she moved closer and whispered, "need to get you naked, kiss you everywhere, touch you everywhere, make you feel the most beautiful, sexy woman on earth. I want to hold my wife when I make her come, want to see her writhing beneath me. Think we can do that?"

When the husky voice of her wife met her ear, Callie's legs turned weak and she had to grip the edge of the sink to prevent herself from sinking to the floor. Licking her suddenly dry lips, she nodded flimsilyand closed her eyes, picturing all the things Arizona had whispered in her ear. A groan left her throat as she hadn't been able to suppress the lust from taking over her entire body as the blonde's front was pressed against her back. But then, just like that, it was gone, her lover's body no longer forcing itself against hers.

"And we need to check on Magic, see if momma didn't feed him like there was no tomorrow", Arizona said nonchalantly as if nothing had happened just a second ago. She smirked as brown eyes fluttered open, the aroused haziness more than evident in them. "I'll wait for you outside, okay?" Not waiting for a response, the blonde slipped through a small clearance between the door and the frame, all the while grinning from ear to ear because she knew Callie so well.

"Arizona", the Latina groaned, frustrated by her own damn muscles and nerves reacting to her wife's touch. Her lover could play her like a puppet on a string, she just knew which buttons to push, which patch of skin to stroke to get her all worked up without actually working her up and Callie still hadn't found a way to tell her body to simply ignore it, not that she really wanted her body to do so.
