"Holy cow Starfire what did you do to this?" he laughed. She sighed humorously and hung her head to give him better access. Silence filled the room and Starfire began to feel very aware of every touch of rough fingertips on her neck and hair. She felt her hair slowly unknotting from the dress then the tug and pull of her dress trying to get uncaught. Robin pulled the strands of red into his hand, sliding his hand across her skin as he moved the locks out of the way.
Robin swept his hand down the seam of the zipper on dress back. It really was hideous dress, however the polka dots and patches fit in perfectly in Arkham. Robin yanked on the zipper again, this time he heard and saw it tear slightly.
"Shit" he cursed.
Star poked her head over her shoulder and flashed him an embarrassed smile, "I will absolutely never wear this again. Do not worry about ripping it."
He cleared his throat again, "It's not unzipping, I think there's something other then mud and stuff stuck. Could I just... well... rip the rest?"
Star paused for a minute to think, "Rip it?" She replied and saw, in the mirror Robin's face colour bright pink but nodded.
"That is fine." She giggled.
"Right, okay." He agreed.
Robin grasped the fabric in two hands and tore in down her back. As the fabric parted down her back, her glowing skin shone throw like rays of sun. He pulled until the end of the zipper, by her hips.
"Done." He breathed, his eyes locked on her crown tattoo, stepping back. Once the dress was loose, Star thanked him and asked him to turn the shower on, considering she couldn't figure it out on her own. He twisted it awkwardly and adjusted it to a warm setting.
She sighed, "I thank you Robin." She smiled politely and stepped into the shower, fully clothed. Not even a few seconds later she tossed all her clothes of out the shower... all. Robin's mouth dropped and he picked up the first aid kit, "S-should I go?" He called over the water.
"You cannot see through the curtain correct?" She called back. He shifted his weight and replied, "No it's opaque but-"
"Please if it is easier to tend you're wound here. I will not be long."
Robin looked at the shower then pulled at his collar in defeat. He opened the case and grabbed antiseptics, tweezers and a needle and thread. He definitely needed stitches.
After a few awkward moments Robin had removed the bullet and tossed it in a plastic bag for later examination. Once stitched up he exited the room only to return again with another washcloth. He took off his shirt and placed everything from the counter outside the door. Robin flipped on the sink and dunked his head into the water.
Just a moment later Star stepped out of the shower, "Did you need help?" She asked securing the towel.
Robin's eyes were closed and his head, still under water, was attempting to expel the ugly blue hew from his hair.
"Maybe..." Robin sighed tilting his head to look at her, which was a mistake. His eyes bulged. Foolishly he was expecting her to be clothed, even though the clothes she needed were sitting just outside the door, where he moved them so he didn't get them wet.
"Please keep your head tilted as it is." she directed.
Star turned on lukewarm water and rinsed Robin's hair lightly shaking it out. She the grabbed the shampoo from the shower and poured some into her hand.
Robin felt her hands on his head again and forced his eyes shut instead of staring at her towel-covered stomach. She massaged the cleaner thoroughly and smiled in success when his black locks began to show through the shampoo. She scrubbed until satisfied then rinsed his hair out as gently as she could, combing and caressing. Just as Robin felt his conscious slipping away he was pulled back, by a chirping voice announcing his hair was black again.
Robin opened his eyes and looked up to the mirror. Luckily his hair was back but the creepy, streaked clown make up hadn't rinsed off.
"Would you please hand me that cloth?" Star asked politely. Robin gave it to her and thanked her for cleaning his hair.
"Your welcome! You almost look yourself!" She commented making him laugh. She soaked the cloth and rubbed soap into it. "Please close your eyes and mouth." She chirped.
Robin looked at her waiting stance, with the cloth in one hand and a comb in the other. Confused, he obeyed anyway without questioning her, to Starfire's surprise. There heights were about the same without shoes on, Star was only a couple centimetres taller.
Star combed back his front hairline and wiped his forehead. She continued the comb-wash pattern until she had cleared all of the gunk-y white and rainbow colours off his pale skin. He had no mask on, only the make up and brown contacts, but his eyes were shut tight. Once she wiped the last off his lips and chin, she slide the cloth hesitantly, taking a moment to properly look at his face before telling him she was done.
It was the first time she had seen his real face with no mask or make up and in good lighting. He was much paler, but also much more handsome. We must be very close in age, she thought.
"Are you done?" Robin spoke, breaking the silence.
"Ah yes! Apologies!" She blushed.
Now Robin realized his predicament, a new mask was sitting on his bag, which was conveniently in the main room. Even though Star wasn't his enemy, Robin wasn't ready to reveal his identity. Just because worked together doesn't I should fully trust her, right? Robin thought, Who knows if just good at hiding and is twisted like those Circus people.
They stood together for a fleeting moment before Starfire left the room.
With his eyes still sealed tight, Robin let out the breath he had held in but his features were not that of relief. Instead the feeling of disappointment washed over him.
Seconds after she left, she was back.
Once again Robin felt her warm fingers slid across his face, he breathed shallowly. Her fingers stretched something gingerly over his eyes. Finally, Robin opened his eyes and looked to the mirror to see a fresh mask covering his identity.
The black stuck out like a crow in the snow on his pale skin. He looked at her reflection in the mirror. She was so opposite of him, in the sense that her reflection was almost glowing next to his paleness. Star's orange skin was still wrapped in the black towel and her long red hair was drying and curling along her back.
"Thanks." Robin managed to cough out.
"You are very welcome Robin."
They're eyes met and she smiled a warm inviting smile.
Robin's lips twitched up in a small smile, leaning in like a magnetic pull. They were close and yet suddenly the closeness was so far. Robin took a small step towards her.
She responded by sliding her hand up his arm. His arm raised and wrapped around her back.
He leaned in ever so slightly and Star tilted her head.
Their noses were millimetres away, and Star allowed herself one shaky breath.
All of a sudden there was banging on the apartment door.
"Raven!" A voice called helplessly, "There's been movement! Let me in!"
Robin and Star froze. "Stay here" Robin whispered just before he left and closed the bathroom door behind him.
Star leaned down quickly, opened the sink cupboard and pulled the satchel out, carefully stepped back into the shower. Moving her palm to face up in front of her charging an energy bolt.
Robin grabbed his gun and utility belt, quickly strapping it around his pants.
"Common Raven! Let me in! I see lights on!" The voice complained.
Robin swung the door open and pointed the gun accusingly at the lanky ginger standing behind it.
"Whoa whoa-!" Wally cried. "Calm down Dick it's just me!"
"SH! Shut up Flash!" Robin hissed slapping a hand over Wally's mouth and stuffing his gun into his belt. "One of the Kings' is here."
Wally nodded in understanding then pushed past him into the sitting room. The clothes outside the bathroom had been kicked when Robin went to the door and the light into the bathroom was still on. As to make the scene seem more scandalous, Robin's chest was completely exposed and his belt loosely wrapped around his pants.
Wally grinned and wiggled his eye rows suggestively. "We're you expecting Raven to join you or we're you just trying to sneak around Bats?"
Raven waited for a few minutes before she opened her eyes. She woke up in a fairly small room. The floor had a few piles of clothes here and there and stacked along the walls were a few cardboard boxes and a suitcase. She was lying on a makeshift bed made of comforters and pillows. There was a thin mattress underneath and a few sheets draped over her body.
Raven held her head, feeling for the bump she had sustained. To her left a small green kitten mewed and stepped up to her, tilting its head.
She picked him up so that their eyes were level, "Beast?"
The little cat grinned and wiggled its bum in the air. She smirked then sat him back down. Beast morphed back into a human, his new appearance shocking her even more. He had stripped off his coat and scarf, his gloves, hat and sunshades were gone too.
For the first time, Raven could see his face and skin. There were rumors that Beast was severely disfigured or burned or lots of other crazy theories. Seeing him now, Raven realized underneath all the layers was a fairly handsome young man with green hair and green skin, fangs and pointed ears. He sat slumped next to her, his wounds all bound already. The shaggy green tuff of hair fluffed over his forehead and his scruffy beard was only slightly longer then stubble. The pants and t-shirt revealed his lean form and more green skin. He reached over to a little table and held out a cold cloth to her.
"You might have a concussion or something but I didn't think about taking you to a hospital until a couple minutes ago." He said sheepishly.
Raven accepted the cloth but set it down next to her. "It'll be alright I don't need a hospital." She moved her hand to hold the spot she'd hit. Her hand lit white and in seconds the swelling and red had disappeared.
"Whoa you have some seriously cool powers!" Beast exclaimed crawling over her to examine her head. Raven blushed and pushed him back to sit down.
"Where are we?" She replied, glancing around again.
Beast stood up and brushed off his pants. "Welcome to my humble abode Rae." He reached his hand out to help her stand.
Raven pulled off the sheets and took his hand, glaring as she did, "Do not call me Rae. This is your home?"
The room was as empty as it could be other then the blankets and boxes. There was one table and one chair with it. She could see an exterior door, another door to the side of the room and in the far corner next to the exterior door was an opening. What looked like a kitchen fridge was poking out through the opening.
Beast was watching her gaze as she scrutinized his little living space. His eyes trailed down her hair and face. Her black hair shown a slight blue in the natural light that leaked through his frosted windows. Her bangs were cut into a 'V' along her forehead, barely covering a garnet gem just between her eyebrows.
"Is that a piercing?" He asked curiously releasing her hand to reach for her face. Raven flinched and smacked his hand away. Beast cupped his hand and frown.
"No its protection." She said, feeling bad for slapping him.
"Protection?" He asked.
"Just never mind okay."
Beast raised his hands in surrender, "Sorry! I didn't know that was a touchy subject..."
He was being sincere but Raven couldn't tell, "Its not, it's just…"
"Hey hey, forget it. It's not my business anyway right?"
"Right..." She agreed. They stood awkwardly avoiding each other's gazes before Raven remember something very important. "Where are those files?" She demanded.
Beast stood up straighter and folded his strong arms over his chest, "Why do you want them? I thought you just didn't want that shipment to send."
Raven frown up at him, "Give me the files Beast."
"No." He replied. Beast picked up his sweater and tugged it on, "I'm gonna deal with this myself."
"I beg your pardon?" Her voice was thick with disbelief. "You didn't even know there were files to be worried about until I told you!" She locked onto her icy glare and released it in full force.
Beast loosened his stance slight, "Look, these files are real evidence and I'm not letting anyone get a hold of them, not Kings, not Queens and especially not a Knight!" he added begrudgingly.
Raven pushed his shoulder, glowering, "What do the papers say Beast."
Beast stepped up, making her move back, "Let's just say they're incriminating."
"Thanks tips, I figured that much out on my own." She stepped up as well hoping he'd back down, but he didn't. He stood a few inches taller than her so his face was now looking directly down at her.
"If you let me keep them, I'll let you read them." He suggested.
Raven's head was tilted upward to look at him. While lowering her head she considered his proposition. When her head lowered she could feel the heat radiating off his skin. She blushed and took a step back, agreeing, "Can I copy it too?"
"No, just read." Beast walked over to one of the boxes and pulled out the papers they had stolen. Raven followed him and took them from him. She breezed over a few of the pages then stopped on one with dark blue scrawl on the bottom.
Raven held the up to show Beast "These papers right here are the ones I saw him bring in and submit along with a few the guy at the front desk gave him. These are the exact papers." She pointed to scrawl, which read: Cyborg
Beast felt the indent in the paper, "Shouldn't they be?" He asked.
"Well not necessarily, most companies fax these sort of things not deliver. It should've been faxed over."
"Actually, you know when I was flying around the factory? I didn't see any fax machines, or phones really. That's kind of weird but I don't see why that matters..."
Raven put the paper at the back of the pile she had and scanned through the rest, "Maybe it doesn't I don't know, it's just strange."
They both stood in silence for a while as Raven read over the file.
Beast cleared his throat to get her attention. " Hey look about these papers, you can read them whenever you want, just you though."
Raven frown, her eyes not leaving the page, "How do you figure that?"
"Here give me your phone I'll write in my number. Just text me and I'll get them for you." Beast said cheekily. He grinned a bit but she didn't catch it.
Raven pondered this for a moment, debating just how much she could trust him, but decided it couldn't hurt to have his contact if she needed her. She grabbed her jacket, which was lying next to the bed with her shoes and gloves and pulled the phone out, opening a contact page then handing it to Beast.
"Can I ask you something?" he said while typing on the phone.
"Sure."
"How did you even know what to look for back there? At the factory warehouse place I mean."
Raven rolled her eyes and took back the phone when he held it out, "I told you. I followed him earlier saw him submitting something, looking rather suspiciously. It looks like I was right by the way." She handed him one of the forms Cyborg had signed, "Besides I don't see Kings enter Wayne Enterprise very often in any city."
The paper had the destination for a shipment of guns, bombs, barricades, and bullet-proof vests to the west bank of Arkham harbour.
"Ya I read this one before you woke up…it's safe to assume they were going to the Circus eh?"
"Surprise." Raven said dully. Beast placed the paper back into the file and set it on the box away from Raven. She was about to protest but Beast spoke first.
"I was thinking that the rescuers will probably be wrapping up their search around now… did you wanna go see what we can see?"
"At the flatted ex-factory?" She replied lamely, raising her eyebrow at him.
Beast grinned, "Yup."
Her face faltered from its usual indifference and she grinned a bit back, "Good call green bean."
"Green bean?!" He exclaimed incredulously.
"You didn't honestly think I would let it slid that you're green right?"
Beast laughed hardily and pulled on his coat and shades, "And you better believe I won't ask about you hanging around Wayne Enterprise." he grinned, trying to poke fun.
"Wayne is one of the suppliers for the knights. We're hired to keep their shipments safe." She answered simply. They tugged on their boots and adjusted their gloves. Beast opened the door, locking it behind him, and pulled up his hood.
"That makes a lot of sense. So were not completely wrong to blow it to bits?"
Raven held back a smile, "Ya well you're not entitled to aid your own enemy either."
"It's not like it was my idea!"
"Well I have an actually good idea, let's just teleport there because I don't want to walk."
Beast considered this for a moment, "I wouldn't suggest walking that far but- YOU CAN TELEPORT?" Beast shouted completely understanding what she said.
"SHH!" She hushed slapping a hand over his mouth. "Ya I can. You want to or not?"
"Absolutely yes." The words his stomach would soon regret he ever said.
