Chapter 13

Senia's P.O.V

The heat seared through Senia's clothing making her skin itch uncomfortably.

"Isabelle!" Senia yelled through her cloth covered mouth. "Isabelle, it's me, Senia," the roar of the fire snatched her voice from the air. A cough broke through the black room, followed by a small voice.

"I'm coming Izzy! Just hold on." Senia's lunges burn with every step she took, her head pounded against her skull as she struggled to hold on to her mental connection with Kierstyn.

The kitchen was blanketed by black smoke, thick enough to slice through. She stumbled and tripped, her head bashing against the floor. Cooling darkness lured her to the edge of unconscious, coxing her to jump into its cold abbess.

"Senia!" She snapped out of it and looked up only to meet the face of a deformed, melted automaton.

"Come," It's deformed voice croaked.

"Never," sneered Senia as she rammed her hands up into the automatons face. She screamed as her hands touched the boiling metal; her flesh searing off. With one final yank, she managed to buckle the automaton off her and into the inferno. Heaving, she reached blindly through the smoke around her until she grasped her now black rag.

Putting the rag to her mouth she coughed, "Isabelle. Where are you?" Senia walked forward, until she spotted a charred hand on the tile.

"Isabelle!" Forgetting about the rag, Senia dropped to her knees and grabbed the overly hot hand. Sweat pooled off her head as she sent an image to Kierstyn tell her that she had Isabelle and that they are now leaving.

Senia pulled Isabelle out and quickly looped an arm around her shoulders. Both girls where barely breathing and coughing up black soot.

"Almost there, just hang on." Isabelle's head, that had been rolling back and forth, nodded. Senia heaved as Isabelle got her balance and began walking with her.

"Watch out!" Isabelle shoved Senia backwards as a wooden beam fell from the heavens. It, and some ceiling tiles, landed where the two of them had been standing moments ago. Wildly looking for Isabelle, Senia spotted her the other side of the pile; trying to clear a path.

"Just leave it," Senia hollered.

"No! Nobody gets left behind." Isabelle snapped as she started kicking a ceiling tile. Senia opened her mouth to reply back when the institute shook violently, tossing both of the girls onto the ground. Senia gasped as she desperately tried to pull air back into her depriving lunges.

"Go Isabelle, I'll get out on my own."

"But-"

"GO!" Senia roared. Isabelle scrambled up and crawled to the exit.

"I'll get someone to come and rescue you." She howled over her shoulder.

"I will be here." She called back, "probably dead on the floor." she mumbled to herself as she looked at the pile of rubble in front of her. Her head pounded as if someone was taking a sludge hammer and was bashing it against her skull. She tried to take a breath but only managed to fill her lunged with vile black smoke.

Eyes watered and blurry, she laid on the ground as her aching muscles gave out. With the last of her energy, she said goodbye to Kierstyn, only to find that she wasn't there to receive her message. "I hope she's okay." Senia mumbled, "I hope she is just knocked out not...gone." She coughed and gasped for air that was no longer there.

"Goodbye," she whispered to no one. This time, when the cool darkness lured her into its arms, she gladly jump.
