Tony walked back in to the party, eyes glued to Loki's ass, which looks very nice from this angle he might add.
He noticed that there were twice as many guests as before, and most of the new attendees had actually dressed up, unlike most of the ones who popped in for a bit earlier just for the free food. Tony didn't even know why he had bothered to invite so many people in the first place when in all actuality he only had his one close group of friends.
The second thing he noticed was the DJ finality started playing tunes that people could actually dance to, and the lights were dimmed and colors were flying everywhere, like a disco. The guests looked surprised at first at the choice of music being played, but then slowly got into the groove.
Tony asked the DJ to just play the music straight from his own music, which was mostly 60s and 70s rock. He liked old school what could he say? Not the crap everyone was used to listen to in this age.
His eyes continued to roam around the room as more people started dancing in the middle of the room, while some stayed seated in the round tables that sat around the dance floor.
Tony chuckled at a few of the costumes, he saw several people dressed up as random superheroes and movie stars. It was like pop culture exploded in the dance hall.
But in Tony's opinion, no one looked as great as Loki. His costume was a picture perfect David Bowie, minus the hair. Even though Tony was more of a Led Zeppelin kind of guy, a little Bowie never hurt anyone, especially when Loki can pull it off so flawlessly. Just like he did everything else.
Speaking of said person, sometime between Tony ogling at Loki's bum and looking at the attendees, he decided to leave Tony's vicinity to go sit over by Natasha, whom was currently attempting to ward off Barton's attempts to seduce her to dance with him. Not working out as he had hoped, as Tony speculated to himself as he considered himself the master of seduction. Even though things with Loki hadn't picked up yet to his dismay. But Tony was anything but a quitter.
Before he had a chance to try again however, a blue eyed Spartan with clearly not enough material to cover down in the lower extremities for Tony's comfort, came blasting forward his way.
"Roomie Tony! This party is a grand one indeed, I must say."
"Uh...than-"
"Thor!" Another ill-dressed and sweaty Spartan came tumbling out of one of the dance groups from the middle of the room and stood by Thor's side.
June, wasn't it?
"I think I need a break Thor, let's go and sit down somewhere."
"Anything for you m'lady." Thor grinned as his attention immediately went from Tony to his date, squeezing her bum as they walked back to the table. Tony always knew Thor's attention span was about like a squirrel's anyway.
Tony was thinking about shoving his eyes into the disco ball lights from above as long as he never had to look at Thor groping another human being for as long as he lived.
His eyes instead drifted back to the table where Loki was still sitting at, he was currently laughing with Natasha at Clint. He was currently attempting to seduce Natasha by dancing to "American Woman" by The Guess Who. It looked like from Tony's perspective that he was creating his own bird dance on the floor.
Tony really couldn't pay too much attention to that though, when Loki looked absolutely breathtaking a couple feet away. Loki mid-laugh is the best type of Loki in his opinion.
Except maybe that one time he tickled him until he couldn't breathe and was catching his breath to no avail on his couch and there was a faint blush to his cheeks and...
"Tony!"
Shit.
Pepper Potts was standing right behind him, dressed in some sort of mermaid thing, with a coconut bra and the whole shebang.
"I just wanted to let you know that, the wedding went smoothly. Since you know, you haven't been texting me back."
Tony gulped. "Yeaah. Sorry about that. I've been busy prepping for this party, and I had a project due and just a lot of stuff. And I've been too busy falling head over heels for a dark haired god sitting across the room so if you excuse me...
"Oh Tony, it's okay! I forgive you! I just hate that we haven't had much time to spend together lately!"
Tony stepped back as he noticed Pepper had stepped a lot closer to him in the short duration of time.
"Yeah, well Pep I-Oh! Hey Rhodey!" Tony suddenly found an out, and there was no way he was about to waste it.
Rhodey turned around when he heard his name being called. His expression lightened up immediately and he started walking over from his group of friends he was with before.
"Hey guys! What's up? Pepper, you look lovely, if I am allowed to say that...?" He looked over to Tony to see if it was cool and Tony gave him a double thumbs up.
"Well, Rhodes, Pep, sorry but I have prior engagements, so I will see you two later!"
Thankfully, he didn't hear Pepper call after him afterwards.
On his way to the table, Tony sprouted an idea. He started walking over to the DJ to request a certain song that he knew Loki would love, at least he hoped he would.
He needed to take walk anyway and try to will away his hard on he got from just thinking about the guy. He gave the DJ a 15 minute break before playing said song, first he had to round up his dance partner.
He didn't even notice Steve Rogers sitting across from them at the same table as he made his way over.
Damn it Steve! You're ruining everything!
Tony's plan hadn't gone to plan exactly. At first, it seemed to be working perfectly. He finally mastered walking in these tight pants, without looking like a complete idiot, and Loki watched as he seductively at least Tony thought so sauntered over to the table, and Loki looked amused. That was good, right? But then of course someone had to start talking to his target and steal his affection's attention away. And of course that someone had to be Steve.
"...and then I told Bucky, yeah sure come on in! Like it matters now, right?!"
Then the whole table exploded into kind laughter, which only infuriated Tony further. Like hell if Rogers thought he was going to actually receive all of Loki's attention for the night.
Tony cleared his throat and wasn't noticed by anyone. Natasha and Loki were talking amongst themselves, while Steve seemed to be looking off across the room for someone. Clint decided to stop dancing/scaring people and came to join the group.
Tony cleared his throat again, when Barton walked up behind him to sit in the seat next to Rogers. But first of course he had to knock him hard on the back, almost causing him to topple over into the table. "Got something in your throat Stark?"
Finally, Loki looked up at Tony, less impressed than he had before.
"What do you want, Stark?"
"Hmm...well, as much as I can remember...this is my party Romanoff, so I think I have the freedom to do as I please."
"Hey hey, I didn't mean anything by it, just curious." Nat tried to assure him. Tony just sulked to himself.
Suddenly, a Beatles song came on and Loki tugged on Natasha's leather coated sleeve. "This is one of my favorite Beatles song! Come on!"
Despite Natasha's complaints, Loki succeeded in pulling the dressed up spy to the center of the dance floor. Tony sighed in defeat as he moved to sit in Natasha's empty seat beside Barton.
Tony watched as Loki broke out in song and dance to "I Saw Her Standing There", mouthing the words to Natasha, who seemed just as carefree as him in that moment. It was a special kind of friendship they shared, anyone could tell by watching them.
But of course, the world didn't take pity on Tony in this moment of peace.
"Hi."
Tony's head whipped back to where the greeting came from, but he knew that voice anywhere.
"Rogers. You look especially patriotic in your uniform this evening."
Steve rolled his eyes slightly as he smiled shortly back. "And you look, fine too. Stark."
"Thanks."
The next few minutes had to be some of the most awkward of Tony's life. Usually, he wouldn't shut up when he was nervous, but this was ridiculous."Twist and Shout" came on next, and Loki looked happier than Tony had ever seen him before, sweaty and glowing under the multicolored lights, grinning brightly as he swung Nat around in circles. Tony tried to conceal his jealously but realized it was all in futile.
Luckily for him, Steve nor anyone else seemed to care, especially when a dark-haired man walked over straight to Steve.
He didn't even have to look up at the face to see that it was Bucky Barnes.
"I didn't remember inviting you here Barnes."
"What does it matter Stark, honestly?" Bucky rolled his eyes, going back to talking to Steve, who looked afraid for a split second.
Tony actually didn't have an answer to that question. Because frankly as soon as the question left his mouth, he realized that he didn't really care about whether or not he was here or not.
All he cared about in that moment was Loki, and finally getting a dance with him and hopefully being able to tell him his feelings for him. And that was also when he realized that Tony was way too far gone over the moon for this pale faced, green eyed kid, he met at that party 2 months back. It was the first time when Tony didn't care what anyone, Bucky, Steve, and even Pepper did in their spare time. He couldn't care less, it was all about that boy that stole him away from anyone else.
"It doesn't..." Tony grinned as he answered aloud a few seconds too late, and then he got up and left the bird brain and the two solders to find and steal his final dance partner of the night from the spy.
3 minutes later Tony was frantically searching for his David Bowie look alike. His song he picked still hadn't played yet, and he internally thanked the DJ, yet he knew it was coming up.
He searched through the crowd with no luck. He was this close to giving up, when he saw Loki standing by himself at the bar with a drink in his hand.
"Hey Ziggy, wanna dance?" Shit...not smooth Stark...not smooth enough
Loki coughed up a bit of his drink, and chuckled. "Sorry love, but I think I'm all danced out."
Tony tried not to look overly pleased when Loki called him "love". "But, you did promise me a dance earlier, Lo."
"I remember no such thing." Loki scoffed. Tony noticed up close now how much Loki had sweat from his earlier dancing with Nat. Oh how Tony just wanted to lick at the trail of sweat falling from his neck...
"Stark? Are you quite alright?"
He must have been zoning out because Loki was giving him a weird look that said "What are you bloody doing, you wanker?"
Tony chuckled as he imagined Loki would actually say something like that to him. Maybe if he got him drunk enough he'd become more british...wait...he's not British though is he...where was he from again?
"Stark, you are doing it again."
"Oh, sorry, I tend to...OH!" Tony's attention immediately went to the dance floor as his song finally started. "Loki! We HAVE to dance! Come on!"
"Wha-!" But Tony grabbed onto his arm, and pulled him across to the center of the dance floor, where him and Nat had been preoccupied before.
"This song, is OUR song Loki. As soon as I listened to it. I just felt you in it."
"What are you going on about?" Loki was simtainously trying to get away from Tony's death hold on his hips, while not spiing his drink on everyone in a foot radius around them.
Then Loki was hit with the realization of what song was actually playing.
Flabbergasted, Loki looked to Tony. "Beast of Burden? Really Stark?"
"You know it! I knew you would. I mean, of course you know it, you have the best music taste ever Lo." For being several inches shorter than Loki, Tony had the muscles to keep him in place and not running off.
Loki noticed that Natasha and Clint were laughing at them over by the table, and Steve and Bucky were just watching them in amusement.
Tony was just mouthing the words to him as he pulled on his hips to bring him closer. All I want is, for you to make love to me...
"No...I am not...doing this with you. I refuse..." Loki was still squirming in his arms to get away, which in any other instance, Tony would have found hilarious.
"Oh yes you are too. I told the DJ to play this song specifically for us!" He grabbed at Loki's wrist, when he had almost found away out. He stopped and startled at Tony's admission.
"You wanted to dance with me pretty terribly then..."
"Of course! Who wouldn't?" Tony was desperate at this point, and the song was already halfway through.
Loki stopped struggling and looked at him. His expression was blank, not betraying any emotion whatsoever. After a few time consuming seconds, he slowly raised his hand on the shorter man's waist.
Tony tried not to look too pleased, but by Loki's eye roll, he seemed to be hiding his excitement pretty badly.
He also noticed that Fandral's marks had almost vanished from Loki's wrists as Loki hesitantly placed his other hand onto his shoulder.
"Well, you could have picked a classier song, I must say."
Tony looked up at Loki's expression, worried for a second, until he saw his smirk on his face, along with a faint blush from where he had struggled briefly.
"Well Lo, I thought the song fit us pretty well. I mean, its a nice song!"
Loki's smirk widened. "Oh yes, a very nice song. Very nice indeed."
They slowly moved around the dance floor, as the song grew to a close. But when the next song started playing, Loki didn't seem to want to leave the dance floor just yet.
"So..." Tony began, realizing he didn't know where he was heading with it.
Loki watched him intently, "So...?"
Tony cleared his throat and looked into Loki's eyes. He could easily get lost in those emeralds, and that's when he noticed that Loki was staring at Tony's upturned mouth.
"I...um..." Tony reached up to run his fingers through his hair. Loki leaned slightly into the touch, hesitantly at first. Then his grip on Tony's hip suddenly became tighter.
"Tony?"
That's when he realized he closed his own eyes. He opened them and saw Loki's mouth slightly open and his face was only mere inches away from his own."
Tony smiled, "You called me Tony."
Loki opened his eyes and smiled, and it had to be the most beautiful thing in the world.
Everything was so perfect, and he could feel the walls being brought down between them by just the looks they were sharing. They weren't even dancing anymore, just standing and swaying in unison. Tony stood on his tip-toes, determined to make the final connection between them-
-Then suddenly, Tony was jerked away from his dancing partner and felt pain in the back of his head and in his stomach. There was a swirl of colors before his eyes and Tony could almost swear that he saw familiar, beautiful emerald eyes looking right at him, wide in shock and fear.
And just like that everything went dark.
