*Part of the Maddie-verse*

The One With the List

"Crap, crap, crap," Shawn said as he tore through the briefing room.

Team Two's rookie looked under the table, in every chair and in every nook and cranny, his search yielding no results. He had been tasked with watching Maddie, the three-year-old daughter of Team One's missing sniper and ex-Special Forces soldier, but that was proving to be harder than he thought.

Just a few minutes ago, Maddie had been at the table in the briefing room coloring in her coloring book. Shawn had left the room to go get Maddie a snack and when he returned, Maddie was nowhere to be found. The only things left was her coloring book and crayons strewn about on the table. He knew Team One would be back at the Barn soon and, if he valued his position in the SRU and his life, he needed to find Maddie.

Frazzled, he ran out of the briefing room and right smack into Troy and the rest of Team Two.

Troy put his hands up to stop Shawn. "Whoa, Shawn, where's the fire?"

Everyone except Shawn laughed at Troy's joke. Shawn looked down, guiltily, and rubbed the back of his neck. Troy looked at his rookie. "Shawn? What's going on?"

Shawn sighed and looked at his TL. "I lost Maddie." He said quietly, so quietly no one heard him.

Troy furrowed his brow. "What?"

Shawn sighed again, ready to accept his fate. "I… kinda lost Maddie."

"You did WHAT?!

Shawn and several other members of Team Two flinched as Ed's voice boomed.

Team One had just returned to the Barn and entered the room in time to hear Shawn's confession. The looks on their faces told Shawn and the rest of Team Two that their already bad day had just gotten worse.

Ed, followed by the rest of the irritated Team One, got closer to Shawn and all stood with their arms crossed tightly across their chests. "Explain. Now."

Shawn sighed. "We were in the briefing room, coloring, and she asked for a snack. I went to get her something to eat and when I came back, she was gone." Shawn looked to Troy. "Sarge, I was gone for less than two minutes."

"How long ago was this?"

"About ten minutes ago."

Ed sighed and looked towards Winnie's desk. "Winnie, check the security cameras. See if you can figure out where Maddie went."

"I already did, Ed" Winnie said, looking up from her computer. "Cameras show Maddie leaving the briefing room shortly after Shawn left but I can't find camera footage that shows where she went."

Spike groaned. "Security's doing a system upgrade today. Different cameras throughout the building have been down all day."

"Fantastic," Ed said bitterly, pinching the bridge of his nose. "So she could be anywhere in the building."

"Not necessarily." Winnie jumped in. "She hasn't passed my desk so she's here somewhere."

Greg nodded at her. "Thanks, Winnie."

Greg looked at the members of Team One and Team Two gathered around. "Split up and find her. We are NOT going to have TWO Braddocks missing."

The constables in front of him nodded and partnered up, spreading out throughout the SRU to search for Maddie.

Both locker rooms were checked. Nothing.

All conference and briefing rooms were checked. Nothing.

Spike's tech room and Commander Holleran's office were empty. No sign of Maddie.

The gun caged was, thankfully, clear and untouched. That didn't surprise anyone though, they had all rightly assumed that Sam had taught Maddie not to touch or mess with guns.

All supply rooms, closets and cabinets small enough for a three-year-old to fit in were searched. Nothing.

The last place they checked was the gym. At first glance, the gym looked empty but upon closer inspection, Andrew and his search partner caught a glimpse of something—the tip of a small shoe sticking out from behind the mats they used for hand to hand. Looking behind the mats, both were shocked by what they found at first, but their shock quickly turned into something else and they smiled.

Andrew nodded his head towards where the others were looking and his partner quickly went to go get them. Within two minutes, Teams One and Two were gathered in the gym and looking at Andrew expectantly.

Andrew smiled. "I know there's no denying Maddie's parentage, but I think this definitely confirms that Maddie is every bit Sam's daughter."

"What are you talking about, Andrew?" Jules asked. "Where's Maddie?"

Smiling even bigger, Andrew moved the front mat out of the way to reveal Maddie. She was curled up on one of the mats, thumb in her mouth and fast asleep.

Relieved that Maddie was safe and sound, the members of Team One let out relieved sighs. Those sighs quickly turned to smiles when they registered how Andrew's words fit the situation. They started laughing and soon the members of Team Two joined in as well.

Lou chuckled. "And we thought Sam being able to sleep anywhere was a soldier thing...maybe its just a Braddock thing."

Spike pulled out his phone and took a picture of Maddie sleeping. "I guess we need to make Maddie her own Unacceptable Nap Locations list huh?"

Ed just shook his head, smile still on his face. "Apparently."

A short little one-shot to ease back into things. Hope you enjoyed.

It's been a while; a LOT longer than I intended. Sorry.

Life's been pretty crummy the past few months and I haven't had any motivation to write. I decided to update SAMTASTIC first because I'm still stumped on where I want to take Sam's Secret. Bear with me!
