CHAPTER 13
"I like that one." Ginny pointed to a dress deep purple in colour, one of many that Hermione had laid out on the bed.
"Do you think Sirius will like it though...?" The bushy haired girl fingered the fabric, sitting on the edge of her bed. This dress was a present from her mother when they had to attend a family wedding. It had been one of Hermione's favourite dresses, and she felt it flattered her figure perfectly.
Ginny frowned and looked at her "You're joking, right? Hermione," she sat beside her "He'll love whatever you're wearing and you know that. He loves you."
Hermione nodded ever so slightly, brushing back a lock of her hair and tucking it behind her ear "Will you do my hair for me later?"
Ginny grinned "'Course I will. Go have a shower or bath and relax for a bit. I'll get you a drink."
Hermione smiled softly. "Thanks, Gin. Really." She hugged her friend before walking to the bathroom and beginning to run a bath, pouring in some lavender oil.
Eva sat on her small bed in her small flat, leaning back and staring blankly at the small television screen directly in front of her. An empty tub of chocolate fudge ice cream was on the floor beside the bed, a spoon balancing in it.
There was a knock at the door and Eva increased the volume of the film she had been watching.
"Eva?"
It was Charlie.
"Eva, please. I know you're in there. Can we please just talk? Please?" His tone was pleading, his voice slightly hoarse.
Eva threw the ice cream tub at the door, scowling.
"You're really throwing something? What are you, five?" The scowl on Charlie's voice was obvious in his voice.
Eva turned up the volume even more, staring at the screen.
"Oh, for Merlin's sake..." Charlie muttered. The door handle rattled, and 'Alohamora' was heard. The ginger walked in. His hair was dishevelled, his clothes crumpled. Stubble graced his face, making him look ruggedly handsome.
Eva stood almost immediately, grabbing the closest thing to her- the spoon- and throwing it at him, hard. She scowled when he caught it.
"What don't you understand about not contacting me again? Fuck off." Though her words were definite, her voice was weak.
Charlie looked at her tear stained face. He didn't say anything, he just looked at her.
"Fuck off, Charlie. And don't come back." Her voice shook.
He looked at her, still, before finally speaking "Do you really want that, though, Eva?" He spoke softly, not looking away from her.
She stared at him, her hands shaking. She clenched them, her fingernails pushing into her palms.
The two simply stared at each other, unmoving, for what seemed like an age. Then, slowly, Charlie began to move forward, toward her.
Eva simply looked at him, not moving as Charlie slowly took her hand which remained still.
There was a knock on the door.
"Hello?" A familiar voice poked their head in.
"We wanted to come and check on you." Another joined the first.
"Eva pulled away from Charlie as he looked around. He stared at the twins, who actually looked concerned and were holding a large box of chocolates.
"Lucius... Get the book..." The voice was sharp, but still extremely weak
"Of course, Mistress..." Lucius could be heard scampering away to something before coming back.
"Good... You know what you need to gather, Lucius... To bring me back..."
"Yes, Mistress..."
"Then get it. And bring your son back to me..."
Hermione waited for Sirius downstairs in the kitchen, her hair braided down her back, away from her face. She wore minimal makeup- only a little mascara and some clear lip balm flavoured with cherries. She looked youthful and beautiful.
Sirius walked in, wearing a pair or pressed trousers and a white shirt. His hair, which had grown unruly, had been trimmed slightly and it made him look much younger.
His eyes brightened at the sight of her and his face broke into a grin "You look gorgeous." He said softly, walking towards her, wrapping an arm around her waist and kissing her forehead softly.
dHermione blushed slightly, kissing his cheek "Thank you. You don't look too bad yourself." She teased, smiling.
He grinned "Is Italian okay?"
"It sounds delicious." She smiled, taking his hand as he Apparated them to an alleyway.
Sirius had booked a small table in a rather expensive Italian a couple of miles from an art museum along the Thames. Wine had been out in a bucket, chilling, and a candle illuminated the table. The table was already set and their food (which Sirius had chosen with a little help from Remus) was brought over almost immediately.
After a delicious dinner of salmon and baby spinach linguine, a few glasses of the wine and a dessert of a dark chocolate brownie flavoured with a shot of amaretto, the two sat at the table, taking, laughing and falling in love with each other all over again.
"I love you, Sirius." Hermione said softly, looking over at him from the rim of her wine glass.
Sirius grinned, somewhat goofily, and Hermione was reminded of the times when the two were at school.
"I know you do," he smiled, fiddling with something under the table "And I love you too. So much. And I always will. Right from the beginning, all the way to the end. And all over again. You're so perfect. We're perfect. And..." Sirius had been babbling and he knew it. Hermione had purely blamed it on the wine. He took something out from under the table, a small velvet box, and opened it, presenting a beautiful diamond ring "Will you marry me...?"
