Different As Night & Day
Chapter Fourteen
Chris arrives finally at his childhood home in the late evening hours. He brings his sleeping daughter up to her bedroom and change for clothes into a pj's. As he placing her beloved print bunny in bed beside her.
When suddenly Maria whose a long-time maid for his family announces to him "Mrs. Hayden has instructed me to care for Miss. Ellie during your time in Hartford"
"Of course" states Chris calmly knowing this shall allow him the freedom to leave to visit with Lorelai the next day.
"Mr. Chris your father requests your presence in his study" states Maria politely as they both know that its a summons. Maria rests in the rocking chair inside of the nursery knowing that eventual the little girl will awaken.
Chris walks quickly downstairs into his father's study wanting this moment to be over before it starts.
He knocks on the study door and hears his father saying to him "Christoper come in and take a seat" so he complies with his father's wishes.
Straub point blankly asks his only child "Have you heard anything about the whereabouts of Lorelai and Rory?"
"No" states Chris passionately knowing that he could not let his emotions reveal the truth. With that response he leaves his father's study.

The next morning within the Hayden household, they were preparing for the day ahead of them. Two cars leave the Hayden residence at the same time heading in different directions. The first car was heading to the Gilmore residence. While the second car had Chris driving to the Independence Inn in Stars Hallow.
It was a quick ride to the Gilmore residence for Straub and Francine while Ellie's sleeping in her car seat. Straub rings the doorbell as Francine is carrying Ellie in her arms.
"Welcome to the Gilmore residence" says Maud politely as she answers the door to find today's guests standing on the doorstep "Please follow me" as she leads them into the living room area.
The three Hayden's follow Maud to the living room where they find Richard and Emily awaiting their arrival patiently. Francine places Ellie into Emily's arms as Richard offers her a mimosa to have.
Both the Gilmore's and Hayden's spend the entire brunch time avoiding talking about the missing family members. However, while they ate the discussion turn from Ellie to their social calendars for the month as it was almost a month away from Christmas.

Meanwhile, Chris arrives in Stars Hollow with no problem as he got directions to the Independence Inn before he left Boston the day before. Once Chris arrives at his destination, he walks directly inside carrying a backpack and heads straight to the front desk
"Welcome to the Independence Inn, how may I help you today?" asks a woman standing behind the desk.
Chris takes a deep breathe and begins to speak "I am looking for a guest named Lorelai Gilmore" as he pulls out the letter that his former girlfriend sent him in the mail.
"She's not a guest" replies this woman before adding "She works here as a maid but you can wait in the lobby until she is finished"
Once Chris leaves the front desk and sits on a chair in the lobby, an older woman walks over to the younger woman standing behind the desk and asks what the young man wants.
This older woman walks over to where he is sitting and asks calmly "You are here to see Lorelai?"
"Yes" replies Chris quickly and adds to the statement "Who are you?"
"My name is Mia and I am the owner of this Inn but Lorelai will be busy for the next hour" states Mia sympathetically knowing he must be looking for someone else as well "I know where someone else that you might be looking for"
Mia takes the young man into her office where Rory is sitting on the floor colouring while her mother worked.

Almost two hours after his arrival, Lorelai walks into Mia's office to find Chris and Rory sitting on the floor together.
Lorelai takes a spot on the floor beside the father and daughter duo and asks suddenly "Where's Ellie?" as she looks around for her other daughter.
"Ellie's at your parents house having brunch with her grandparents" says Chris quickly in response before adding "Why are you working as a maid?" looking at the uniform that the former socialite is wearing.
Lorelai looks at her daughter and responds by saying "Mia gave us a place to live and a job to support ourselves with"
"Why do you need money and where are you living?" asks Chris eagerly to learn her response to his questions.
"I need money because I barely took enough to live off of when I left home" states Lorelai sarcastically knowing that Chris still lived off of his parents money.
Chris says supportively "I can send you money if you need it" since his parents provided financially for Ellie and himself along with his monthly allowance.
"I don't need your money Chris" replies Lorelai annoyed at thought of taking money from either the Gilmore's or Hayden's "And we live perfectly fine in a potting shed on the Inn's property rent free"
With that one comment, Chris states passionately "You know that is the one reason why I did not bring Ellie with me because I was afraid in what I would find and it will be a matter of time before your parents find you"
"Why is that?" asks Lorelai cautiously not knowing if she wanted that answer and completely avoided speaking about Chris's previous statement.
Chris says boldly "Your parents hired a private detective to find you" as he takes out a stack of photographs from the backpack on the floor beside him and takes them to Lorelai.
Lorelai looks at the first couple of photographs to know that they are of Ellie since she left for Boston.
Chris stands up from the floor and kisses Rory on the head. He says quickly "I need to go because the brunch is probably over by now" knowing that he had to get back to Hartford.
As he is about to open the door, he says happily "The backpack contains stuff that I bought with me for Rory"
Once Chris left Mia's office, Lorelai opens the backpack to find clothes, toys, and books for Rory to have.

Leaving their wives with their granddaughter, Richard escorts Straub to his study to have a well deserved drink of scotch. After pouring two glasses of scotch, the two men took their seats in complete silence.
This is until Straub carefully brings up the topic of the two missing Gilmore girls by asking "Have you made any progress in the search for Loreali and Rory yet?"
"No our private deceive Mr. Price has not found their location yet but he is still looking for them" states Richard with a mixture of sadness and anger in his voice that he does not know where they are.
Straub asks suddenly "May I have the phone number of this Mr. Price?"
"Of course" replies Richard as he writes the phone number on a spare piece of paper laying on his desk.
Straub folds the piece of paper and places it inside of his suit pocket. As he starts to plan his next move concerning his beloved Ellie's future with her own mother.

After brunch at the Gilmore's, Straub immediately phones this private deceive agency and requests that Matthew sends all of his information gathered to his house that afternoon. While Francine took Ellie out of the house for a shopping trip.

Chris arrived home to find his father in his study like always and his mother out shopping with his daughter. He just lays on his bed thinking about today's events knowing his involvement in Rory's life will depend on Loreali's ability to let him in. Knowing it will eventual lead to her parents being back in her life.
While Chris is thinking about the future, Straub working on amending the previous custody agreement filled before the twins birth. With the information brought in the duplicate Gilmore file from Young's Detective Service. He plans to call in any favour that he might have to in order to limit the woman who he believed ruin his son's life contact with Ellie.
