V.E.: Well, it seems I'm starting out this chapter with answering a few questions by a guest reviewer named General Ripper. There were several stuff to address in his reviews so I am just going to cover it now (though how many people are reading this, I have no idea).
501st and Admiral Yularen: To be honest, I have no idea what they are doing at this moment so I can't really write them in. I don't like jumping the gun on presumptions.
Plo: He's dead, but I guess he might show as a Force ghost in the near future.
Luke x Ahsoka: This is the main reason why I'm addressing all his comments in the author's note. I DO NOT INTEND TO DO THIS. There are several reasons for this. A) There is already a bunch of stuff going on already. B) She is going to be his teacher soon, I feel that would be rather unprofessional. It's one of the reasons why I dislike the Anisoka paring (though I do not grudge anyone who does like it). C) At the end, I am deciding whether she is going to go back to the past. This would make things even more difficult. D) I just perceive them as having a more sibling dynamic in this turn of events, much like I perceive Anakin and Ahsoka to be.
That isn't to say it couldn't happen, just not in this story. I'm not even going to get started on the time displacement and age difference thing.
Okay, now that I got all of that out of the way, it's time to arrive on Yavin's moon. And like I said before, you'll find out what I am doing for Ahsoka on the Death Star Run soon enough.
Disclaimer: I don't own these characters, I don't own this story, I don't own this universe. So yeah, no lawyers please.
Arriving on Yavin's moon was a relief for all of them even though none of them could forget that the Empire was bound to find them. For Ahsoka, being out of space was nice enough while they got themselves settled and sorted out what was going to happen.
Being in the base near the ships was like being back with her Master, inspecting the ships and going ready to blast some droids. The only difference was that she was currently being driven around with Luke and the rest of the group on a speeder seeing it all.
But as Ahsoka had to tell herself a few times going around, this wasn't the Clone Wars. If she was going up against anyone, chances were it would be the same clones whom she had fought with before. Still, she was going to have to get used to that since the now Strom Troopers would not show her the same courtesy back over nineteen years ago.
Finally, the speeder stopped next to a row of neatly lined rebels and an older man waiting to receive them. As the rest of them got off, Leia immediately went to the gray haired man who embraced her with much relief.
"You're safe! When we heard about Alderaan, we feared the worst."
Princess Leia wasn't the one for formalities as she stepped away from the military officer and nodded her head towards R2.
"We don't have time for our sorrows, Commander. You must use the information in this R2 unit to plan the attack, it is our only hope."
Leia then turned to Ahsoka beckoned her forward, the Togruta did so as she was introduced.
"Commander, allow me to introduce Former Jedi Padawan Ahsoka Tano. She was one of the ones who helped in my escape from the Death Star. Ahsoka this is Commander Vanden Willard."
Ahsoka bowed slightly to the Rebel commander.
"Pleased to meet you sir."
The commander seemed dumbstruck at what he just heard, as did the many of the soliders as some were looking at each other to confirm what they just heard.
"By the…Ahsoka Tano! No one's heard from you in over twenty years, and now of all times you show up here!"
She simply shrugged, not wanting to give much detail as to what happened. Not knowing the two males of the group listening and watching in the background.
"Forgive me, I've kind of been out of the loop of what's going on since I left the Temple. I didn't know I was so well known."
"It isn't a common event when Jedi leaves the Temple the way you did. Bail Organa used to talk about you when we were discussing the old Jedi of the past. But if I may say so, you look so…"
Ahsoka cringed as she answered what she could of the question.
"It's a long story, Commander. And I am not a Jedi anymore. I'm just simply Ahsoka Tano."
Commander Willard sat up straight, regaining his professionalism as the group was now walking towards whatever destination they were supposed to be heading.
"Well no matter who or any of you are, we can need all the help we can get. Now what is with the urgency, Princess?"
As Leia walked and explained how they were being followed, Ahsoka saw R2 being led by the military officers. She smiled as she saw the little droid before she noticed the looks Luke and Han were giving her.
She bit back a groan in her mind, knowing very well the two would most likely ask her for details of why she was being recognized as soon as they could get her to themselves.
The debriefing room had all the pilots in the room, observing the battle station's (now known as the Death Star) blueprint was displayed on the monitor on the monitor. It wasn't as impressive as the things she had seen, but for what they were and what she had seen this Rebellion was pretty well organized and equipped. She was seated next to Luke while she could see Leia off with some other important people off to the side of the room. Hana and Chewie had stayed in the back of the room, surprised Han was sticking around for this.
She brought herself back to attention as the man up front went on to explain more about the Empire's deadly weapon. TH e screen showing off the Death Star in enough detail it could.
"The battle station is heavily shielded and carries a firepower greater than half the star fleet. It's defenses are designed around a direct large-scale assault. A small one-man fighter should be able to penetrate the outer defense."
An older man in his thirties interrupted the briefing, with the question that was on Ahsoka's mind as well.
"Pardon me for asking, sir, but what good are snub fighters going to be against that?"
It seems like Dodonna had anticipated that concern as he went on in his explanation.
"Well, the Empire doesn't consider a small one-man fighter to be any threat, or they'd have a tighter defense. An analysis of the plans provided by Princess Leia has demonstrated a weakness in the battle station."
Ahsoka and Luke sat up straighter at this, as did every pilot in the room. The screen showed the simulated route that should be taken as the older man explained it.
"The approach will not be easy. You are required to maneuver straight down this trench and skim the surface to this point. The target area is only two meters wide.
There were some disbelieving murmers at that, which Ahsoka understood. For a normal pilot, that was a pretty small area to hit. Even a Jedi would have difficulty making that shot, though she had the sinking suspicion Anakin could have probably done it.
She gave her utmost attention as the man upfront continued.
"It's a small thermal exhaust port, right below the main port. The shaft leads directly to the reactor system. A precise hit will start a chain reaction which should destroy the station."
She could see that from the simulation, though the former Jedi Padawan had to wonder why the designer behind the terrible space station would make such a flaw. Perhaps there was a good reason for it, but it was like giving a specific way for it to blow up for the Rebels. For some reason, she got the feeling Palapatine would not be happy with that guy when his space station exploded.
Dodonna went on as he showed the obstacles that they would be facing.
"Only a precise hit will set up a chain reaction. The shaft is ray-shielded, so you'll have to use proton torpedoes."
The pilot on Luke's other side's face was of complete disbelief and had no qualms of expressing his opinion on this matter.
"That's impossible, even for a computer!"
Ahsoka was about to tell him otherwise when Luke beat her to the punch.
"It's not impossible. I used to bull's-eye womp rats in my T-sixteen back home. They're not much bigger than two meters."
The Togruta looked at Luke impressed as she noticed how it calmed down their fellow pilot. Aside from inheriting some Anakin's flight skill, he also seemed to have leadership potential in the way he handled himself and even gave some encouragement in his own way.
A final announcement pulled Ahoska out of her eavesdropping the conversation and back to the front of the room.
"Man your ships! And may the Force be with you!"
At that, the whole group made ready to exit. The ones who had been standing were exiting and the ones who were sitting stood up and also went for the exit. Now that they had their orders, they were ready to make it happen.
But Ahsoka just sat there.
May the Force be with you.
It was just like the Clone Wars and a Jedi Master had given her order to head out with the Clones. But what was she good for now? She wasn't a Jedi, not like Obi Wan who they were no doubt expecting.
Also, what if the Force wasn't with them? What if this all blasted up in their faces, like Felucia that one time?
In the middle of all her mind was going through, a calm air of peace brushed her mind. A sense of calm took hold of her. A sentence rang through her mind with a very familiar voice speaking it.
"Trust, Ahsoka Tano."
Daughter's voice got her out of all her doubts, reminding her of her old life. Yes, she had to trust the Force that everything would turn out alright. If anything deserved her trust after all this, it was the Force. Would it send her forward here if it didn't trust her?
It was only fair she repaid that trust.
She was stirred out of that line of thought by Luke's voice.
"Ahsoka, you okay?"
She turned to find a very worried look on the teen's face. She smiled, easing his worry lines slightly.
"I'll be fine."
Luke nodded as he spoke to her.
"Well, Leia was wondering if I could do a flight simulation to see if I could go on the Death Star run. Care to join me?"
Ahsoka sprung up, happy at the idea of flying again and doing something. A smirk tugging at her lips.
"Bet I can get a higher score than you."
Luke's eyes brightened with the challenge and the look they shared.
Darth Vader stood absolutely still as he stood right next to Tarkin, examining the screen for the planet Yavin and its moons. So much anticipation, and finally the Rebel's base was about to be destroyed.
Yet even as this was going on, his mind was at war.
Ahsoka is there.
Many years ago, he thought he had destroyed any part of him remotely resembling Anakin Skywalker from his mind permanently. After all, Anakin Skywalker was dead by the Empire's records. A Jedi who had tragically lost his life defending younglings from Vader and his Storm Troopers.
Now that he was older, the explanation made him roll his eyes at the lengths the Emperor went to keep the identity of his apprentice a secret. It wasn't out of concern, no it made him more dependent on him. Just like his suit, Vader was very how well his position was and if the emperor decided he was no longer of use…
Well, that was the way of the Sith he had learned. And apprentices can scheme just as well as their Masters could. He just needed a new plan.
Then the voice came back, a voice that sounded very much like a mixture of his mother and Padme.
What would Ahsoka say if she saw you like this?
He was thankful that the suit didn't show how he cringed.
What would she say indeed? What did she know about him? Did she care after all these years?
He knows it shouldn't matter, she saved the princess. By all knowledge, she had been gone to the Rebel side. Even if they met under different circumstances, he would still have to kill her.
No Jedi could survive, not even ex Jedi.
Then for no reason, his mind suddenly flashed back to that boy she was with in the hanger. Who was he to Ahsoka? A friend? Something more? Why did this boy bother his thoughts so much?
Irritation flashed across his mind as he reigned in those thoughts, slamming them down even darker and deeper. Those were Anakin Skywalker's thoughts, he was Vader. And Vader would destroy his obstacles.
Even if it was his former Padawan, so be it. The good half of him that would have spared her died a long time ago. He had killed Obi Wan, the man Anakin thought of as a brother once and had his light saber to prove it. When it came to it, he would show no mercy to her.
And though he would deny it, a small part of him hoped she would do the same.
The intercom gave a status update of the impeding destruction to the two in command and the rest in the control room.
"Orbiting the planet at maximum velocity. The moon with the Rebel base will be in range in thirty minutes."
The Sith basked in the anticipation of the final destruction of the fools who dared challenge the Empire despite knowing its strength. His voice rang sharp and clear through his breathing.
"This will be a day long remembered. It has seen the end of Kenobi and it will soon see the end of the Rebellion."
V.E.: I guess I am allowed one bad chapter. That's just my personal opinion though. I know I didn't cover as much as last time, but the next chapter will definitely have a lot more going on as they all go on their separate paths.
Will Ahsoka go up on the Death Star run or stay behind? Find out next time.
Please review.
