Caroline looked around the room; blood roaring in her ears, her heart racing. She was being watched, she could feel it.

Protectively, she put a hand to her stomach but her heart practically stopped when her stomach was flat and empty. Her breath quickened as her blood ran cold, panic very nearly making her collapse. Where was the baby?

She looked around the room and stood from where she had been lying down, she was on a bed, it didn't make sense. "Where's my baby?! Who put me in here?!" She yelled over and over again while banging on the door across the room. She couldn't understand it, she didn't remember how she got here. None of this made any sense.

Jumping back, she watched as the door swung open and Mason was standing there.

"You son of a bitch! Why am I here?! WHERE'S MY BABY!?" She screeched while hitting him in the chest.

Mason grabbed her by her wrists and pushed her into the wall, pinning her there with his hips, letting go of her wrists he put his hands on her shoulders and started kissing her neck.

"Mason, please no. Please." Caroline started to cry and struggle against his arms.

He tightened his grip on her shoulders and started to kiss up to her lips, he'd stop every few seconds to whisper to her, "I love you."

Caroline kept struggling and tried to scream, but his lips silenced her. She mustered her strength and shoved him away from her, he looked at her with heartbreak all over his face.

She tried to move away from him but he pushed himself against her again, once again pinning her to the wall with his hips, she started to scream but he put his hand over her mouth, "Just listen to me, please. Please, Caroline, don't marry him. I love you, I want you. Just please…don't marry him tomorrow."

Caroline stood there, stunned before he started to kiss her again, this time, his hands started to pull at her shirt. She kept protesting but that didn't stop him, nothing did.

She started to punch his chest and gasped when he put his hands on her throat, "I killed him for us! I got rid of him so we could be together! Don't you understand that?!" He yelled in her face while his grip around her neck tightened. "Why do you still love him!?"

With a scream, Caroline sat up in bed, covered in sweat. She put a hand to her throat and took a deep breath. "It was just a dream…" She reassured herself while placing her other hand on her swollen belly. "It wasn't real."

"Caroline?" She heard a panicked voice coming from the hallway and saw her bedroom door open, letting a stream of light into the room.

"Nick?" She asked, hopeful.

Elijah stepped into the room and sighed before walking to her, "No, honey. Just me…Are you okay?"

Just like that, Caroline's heart broke again, she shook her head slowly, "Of course I'm not okay."

"That was a stupid question…This is the fifth time this week that you wake up screaming. You want to talk about it?" Elijah asked.

It had been a week since those pictures showed up on their doorstep, a week since Caroline became even more depressed than before; a week since Stefan, Elijah and Kol had been hunting for Mason.

Wiping away her tears, Caroline looked down, "They start out as flashbacks. I know these things happened before…I wake up in this bed, in this room. Mason comes in and he holds me against the wall, he kisses me and starts begging me not to marry Nick…Then it morphs into him trying to kill me because even though he killed…he killed Nick for us…I still don't want him. And every time, I wake up and I expect Nick to be here…" She stopped herself from continuing and just sighed, shaking her head.

"How do you do it? How do you…How do you go on without Mom?" She asked, turning to look at him with the most broken of looks in her eyes.

Elijah looked down, "I had someone else to live for. I knew that you needed me and I couldn't give up, no matter how much I wanted to."

"I don't have that…"

"Yes you do. Every time you feel a little kick in your stomach, that's the baby telling you she needs you. Once you accept that, you'll be able to go on. It'll be hard but you can do it."

She shook her head slowly, "Who's gonna hold me when I wake up from a nightmare about Mom? He always did that."

"It will get easier with time, Sweetheart." Elijah said as Caroline slowly got settled under the covers.

"We'll see…Can you shut the door on your way out?"

Elijah didn't reply, he just did as she asked and stood in the hallway. The familiar ache in his chest intensifying, he wished his daughter didn't have to feel the same pain and emptiness he did every day now, it wasn't fair.

As slow as the ache forming in his chest, he thought up a plan and went to his phone. He dialed the number that's been leaving him endless voicemails for the last week.

After three rings, the person finally answered, "Elijah?"

"Rebecca…I need you to tell me everything you know about Mason. No holding back."

Even though it was four in the morning, Kol was up and searching the internet and files Stefan had shared with him.

Ever since he saw the images of Nick, he couldn't forget them, he couldn't get them out of his head. He barely begun to accept that he lost a brother, he felt grief, every single day, especially when he saw Caroline.

He jumped when he saw Bonnie standing in front of the laptop, "Sorry if I woke you."

"Kol you need sleep. Staying up and looking at these files isn't going to bring him back." Bonnie whispered solemnly.

He clicked his teeth together, "I know that. But finding that bastard and killing him will avenge my brother."

Kol looked away before he could see Bonnie's eyes flare in anger for a split second, then soften to a sickening pitiful look, "Kol…You can't kill him. He needs to be arrested and rotting in a jail cell."

"Oh because that went great last time. I was there the last time he went to jail. He came out and came after Caroline. I want that piece of shit dead before the baby is born."

Before she could snap at him, their doorbell rang.

Kol went to answer the door and was surprised to see Elijah on the other side, "Elijah, what's wrong? Where's Caroline?"

"At home, asleep. I know it's late but I called Rebecca and practically begged her for the little information she had on Mason. Apparently, she's had his address here the whole time but didn't want us to know in an effort to protect us." Elijah said as he held up a paper.

"So we're going now?" Kol asked as he led Elijah into the house, planning on getting dressed.

"Sooner the better don't you think?"

"Does Stefan know?"

"No, it doesn't matter, he can't interfere since he's working on the case."

Kol nodded a little, "Let me get changed…I think I have some of your running clothes here you can change into. Or did you want to pummel Mason in your boxers?"

Elijah turned a shade of scarlet before following Kol up the stairs.

Watching them go upstairs, Bonnie grabbed her phone and started calling Mason. Leave it to Rebecca to screw everything up for them.

Mason slammed the basement door shut behind him after hanging up with Bonnie. Apparently, Rebecca the little snitch told Elijah and Kol where he was living.

He nearly threw the phone in anger but instead walked deeper into the basement and sneering at the person he had thrown in the corner.

"Well. Your sister is a pain in my ass. She told your brothers where I was and I'm pretty sure they, along with some cheap ass bb guns, are on their way now." He said with a nonchalant shrug while looking at the table set against the wall. He ran a hand across the variety of knives lying there before picking out one with dried blood stains on it.

He turned and smiled at the person on the ground, "I have to go pay your wife a little visit. I won't hurt her, of course, I just need her to be the one that lures the boys away from here. Away from you. But I wanted to ask you something…Why is it that Caroline still hasn't called me? I know that it didn't take you long to get her to fall in love with you so why isn't she talking to me? I mean it's been ten freaking days since I killed you. How much more time does she need?" He sighed as he put the knife in his jacket pocket, "I guess I'll ask her in about five minutes. Bonnie says they are barely getting ready and won't leave for a good ten to twenty minutes. I have plenty of time."

The room was eerily silent as he strutted out seemingly without a care in the world.

Caroline lay in bed, staring at the ceiling. She didn't want to leave her room. She heard her dad run out of the house, she knew it was in the middle of the night, she knew something was probably wrong. But she didn't care. Why would she? Her husband was dead.

The one person she couldn't live without was gone; taken from her in a blink of an eye. She didn't understand how her Dad could do it; how he could go on with his life after losing his wife. How? Was it because he had over 20 years with Katherine and she barely got 20 months?

This wasn't fair.

She was about to start crying again when her doorbell rang, echoing through the house. She sat up slowly and remembered that she was alone in the house. She looked over at the clock and was shocked that it wasn't even five in the morning.

Climbing out from under her covers, she grabbed the bat that was resting against her nightstand beside her bed and grabbed her cell phone. She dialed her dad's cell and made her way to her bedroom door when the doorbell rang again, making her jump.

"Caroline, what's wrong?" Elijah answered her after the first ring.

"Are you at the front door?" She asked quietly while creeping down the stairs.

Elijah paused for the briefest of moments, "We're on our way home right now. Don't go to the door." He said before hanging up.

She didn't know why she was still creeping to the front door, but maybe it was because the person they thought was on the other side of the door was the person who took two people away from her already.

By the time she got to the door, she swung it open and her grip tightened on the bat hidden behind the door. "What do you want now? Haven't you done enough?"

Mason looked at her with a smile and walked in, he reached over and grabbed the weapon she was hiding. "Nice try. I wanted to see you."

"Get the hell away from me." She said through gritted teeth as she backed away from him. She had no weapons now and she was about to make a run for the stairs.

He reached forward and grabbed her by her arm, "Please don't leave…Everything I'm doing is for us."

"You killed him for us?" She asked in anger.

Mason smiled and nodded, "Yes! I was afraid you wouldn't understand it all! Now we can finally be together again!"

"Again?!" She asked incredulously while pulling herself away from him. "You're insane! I would never love you! Never!" She shouted at him while throwing her phone at his face.

He swatted it away and a flash of anger crossed his face, "Don't make me mad. I don't want to hurt you."

Caroline took a deep breath in fear and turned, trying to crawl up the stairs as fast as she could but she felt a grip on her ankle and screamed.
