Dream/Vision Amy's thoughts. The Professor's thoughts.

Chapter 12

"Can't save everyone…"

Dream/Vision

Amy started awake. She looked around to find herself back in the white room where she had last seen her mother. She sat up to find her mother standing with a sad smile on her face. She wore a white glowing gown and her black hair tumbled down her back.

"Mom?"

"Hi, sweetheart."

"What's going on? Where am I?" Amy asked.

Her mother leaned down and pulled Amy up without effort. She caressed a hand down her cheek and Amy leaned into it.

"You're in Limbo, the space between living and death. Sweetheart, this is my ability. I can pull someone's mind into this space, including my own. And healing as well like your father said," She explained.

"So I'm dead? He actually killed me…I failed," Amy said in despair.

"No, you didn't. Yes, you died and yes he killed you but you didn't fail. Not yet," She said. "This vision came to you because you were the only one who could save the others. Only a part of the vision had to come true in order for you to succeed."

"How can I succeed if I'm dead?"

She sighed, "This is where I come in."

She lifted Amy's chin to look into her blue eyes, "Honey, I'm dying. Living in the psych ward was rough on me. Your father put me in the most despicable place you can ever imagine. He was hoping I would die here and he was right. But I held on, just for you."

"Mom…I don't understand…"

"I know sweetie. I'm giving up my life so you can live. I'm going to heal you so you can stop him and save everyone."

"No!" Amy shook herself out of her mother's soft grip, refusing to believe that her mother will die.

"This is the best sacrifice a mother can do for her child, and it is the only sacrifice I'm willing to take. You don't have a choice sweetie."

A tear leaked out the corner of Amy's eye and her mother wiped it away, giving her a smile of hope. She set a hand on her chest and a small glow came. The surroundings started to fade as her mother slowly faded away in the glow.

"Mom…" Amy whimpered.

"I love you."

Screams filled her ears as she woke up under Logan who was lifting himself up off of her. She realized only a few seconds had passed and she looked around to see her father raise a gun at Jacob and she screamed.

"No!" She screamed as loud as she could and brought a hand up. A stream of blue electricity flew from her fingertips and hit James.

He flew from his spot and landed on the floor a few feet away. The gun clattered beside him. He groaned from his spot and looked up at Amy in stunned amazement.

"I don't…I killed you!" James said as he slowly stood up, picking up the gun.

"You did. But thanks to your wife, I'm here."

"My…?" James whispered before his eyes gleamed in anger. "I'm going to kill that bitch!"

"Don't even bother. She's already dead. She had to die so I can stop you," Amy said as she got closer to him. "She healed me. She sacrificed herself."

He became angrier and angrier as she spoke and raised a gun at her, "Then I'll just have to kill you again."

Before he even had the chance to pull the trigger, she raised a hand and shocked him again. He screamed and shook on the ground. The gun having had been thrown from his grip onto the floor. She closed her fist, cutting off the stream of electricity. She stood over his unconscious form.

"I could've killed you like I killed that man, but I'm not going to because I'm not you," She spoke to the prone form.

She stepped away as the people around her cheered. She had saved them all. Amy ignored the cheers and headed towards the Professor with a new mission in mind. Logan followed her as she passed the Professor who had a look of relief on his face.

Thank you, my dear.

She gave a small nod as she left the foyer and headed back to the kitchen. Logan jogged a few steps and grabbed her arm.

"Amy, hold on a second."

She pulled her arm out of his grip, "I can't. I have to stop another vision from coming true. She can't die."

She kept moving and reached the kitchen door and opened it only to see a pale Kitty holding a dead Bethany. She swallowed thickly as she replaced Kitty's spot on the floor. Kitty went to stand next to Logan, tears falling down her cheek. Logan pulled the crying girl into his arms and led her out of the kitchen, giving Amy the privacy she needed to mourn the loss of a life she couldn't save.

She pulled Bethany's body into her arms. There was nothing else Amy could do for this girl she had grown to dislike. Tears pooled in her eyes, as she knew that despite saving all the others, she couldn't save this one. The young girl lay in her arms; her dull blue eyes stared lifelessly up at her, the eyes forever seared into her memory. Amy brought up her right hand and set her stained fingers on the girl's forehead and gently moved down, closing the eyes. She let out a sob as she put her arm around the girl and pulled her body towards her, forehead meeting forehead.

"I'm so sorry, B.J, so sorry…" Amy whispered.
