Chapter 13

Return to the reality.

It has been about three months since everyone returned back to school. Things were going surprisingly smoothly. Ran and Shinichi didn't speak anymore. They would behave as if they didn't exist for each other. Of course this was quickly understood by all their classmates. Although there were a lot of rumors about this issue, soon they had been forgotten. Ran continued to be, probably became even more frightening since she was devoted entirely to coaching in karate, but she wasn't concerned with her homework. Sonoko forced her to come to her house to get help from her home tutor, so she won't go to school completely undone. And thank God she was doing just fine! And the teachers had no complaints and the work was delivered. She even managed to become the student president of the school mostly due to the impeccable behavior and acceptance by the students.

On the other hand, Shinichi stopped dealing anymore with police matters. He turned his attention to other interests such as... Nothing. He stopped doing anything, he was rarely going to school and instead he was going to Heiji's school for fun.

Time passed peacefully until one day Ran found in the mailbox of her house a folder without sender. This contained a letter that was written on a computer and it was analyzing some events not known to Ran, some events in Hawaii. First of all the fact that Kazuha and Heiji were together, they had slept together and that Sonoko knew from the beginning. Also in the folder there were pictures of Heiji and Kazuha kissing in the yard of the hospital and holding hands towards Heiji's room at the hospital. She couldn't believe it in her eyes, so she decided to invite them both to her house to see if all those were true. The two girls as soon as they heard and saw the photos lost their color. After some time of silence Sonoko stood up and looked into the eyes of her girlfriend.

"It's all my fault. I said to Kazuha to not tell you anything about all these because I thought that you were going to make up at the club with Shinichi. That is and the reason that I paid the boys to be with us at the table, so Shinichi hopefully got jealous-"

"Wait Wait... wait ", said Ran even more angry, "you sent them to attack us?"

"Yes –I MEAN NO! Wait… listen to me!"

"I DO NOT WANT TO HEAR ANYTHING! LEAVE! NOW!"

"Ran-Chan-" Kazuha tried to calm her down.

"Don't touch me! How could you Kazuha? How?"

"Sorry, I -"

"No, don't be sorry... no regrets. Just disappear… both of you…"

Both girls left with a heavy heart. Ran cried for the rest of the day, and so them. The next few days that followed were very tough. Sonoko was trying to approach Ran but with no success. Kazuha was trying to call Ran constantly but she wouldn't answer. The situation worsened as time passed. Sonoko was alone in the school so she decided to change schools and asked her parents to send her to a school for rich kids. Kazuha was also desperate. She felt guilty for what she had done with Heiji then on the island so she stopped seeing him and distended him at school, which hurt her even more. At the end she stopped eating and going out of the house only to collapse a few days later and fell into a coma.

Heiji when he learned it, he felt like he lost the ground beneath his feet. He knew what had happened but couldn't digest Ran's behavior. They were friends for so long and because of this they stopped talking. But he couldn't do anything now. The only thing he could do was tp speak to the girl he loved and try to revive her somehow. The doctor said that her situation is one way. She might come back only when she wants it. For this, Heiji was asked to speak to her every day, maybe something from what he says would make her wake up.

Shinichi knew that he was to blame for everything. He knew that Heiji accused him and consider him as the culprit for all this, but never admit it and never talked about this topic in front of him.

In short, the party broke up and everyone went on his own way.

Time passed by, Kazuha was still in the hospital with her lover by her side. Shinichi went back to Tokyo and started going back to school. He had decided to atone for his sins by doing everything he could to restore Kazuha. The atmosphere at school was so different. Everyone was alarmed. For that responsible was president Ran and her new friends. He tried to talk to Ran but her "thugs" didn't allow him. At school he was no longer the famous detective but an insignificant nobody but he didn't want to give up for Kazuha and his good friend so he accepted it.

One day after school, he saw Ran all alone and took the opportunity to talk to her. He ran and pulled her by the hand.

"RAN!", he cried.

"Huh? Who are you and what do you want from me?" she asked coldly.

"I am Shinichi... You don't remember me?", he asked fearfully.

"Shinichi? Hmm... no… nothing… sorry and goodbye!" she smiled coldly and went to leave.

"Ran wait! We need to talk! It's very important!" he screamed.

Then someone knocked him out of nowhere throwing him on the floor.

"What the -?"

"Hey you! Don't touch my girl! Otherwise I'll destroy you!" A young man around his height, with black hair and blue eyes threatened him.

"What? Your girlfriend?" the detective exclaimed, "You are kidding, right!?"

"What? Get out of here or I will send you to the hospital!" he threatened him again.

He held his girlfriend's waist and left. The detective got up and stayed frozen fro a few minuted to comprehend what he just saw. When he got out of the shock he had suffered, he went home. On his way back he was thinking that he had seen this guy somewhere before but couldn't remember where or when. But not in this school, that was the only thing for sure. His thoughts were interrupted only because he found himself in front of the door of his house. He saw the house with the lights off, so he left and went to his neighbor and good friend.

He had to do something about it. He had to finally take responsibility and behaved like a man and stop hiding from his own problems. He rang the bell several times until someone respond. The door opened a little by Ayumi, his little old friend.

"AAAhhh! Shinichi-nichan!" she yelled and ran to embrace him. "How nice to see you again! Come on in! COME!" she began to draw drag him in.

At the living room was Ai with the Professor who were surprised when they saw him.

"Shi- Shinichi!", the professor said, "Welcome! Come sit, do you want something to drink? It's cold outside... and I think that it will rain too."

"Yeah, it will rain", Ai continued. "Kudo-kun, long time no see. How come?"

"Yeah, right... I haven't been here since I came back from the island.", he said sadly and sat on the couch.

He was silent for a while. The others were waiting for him to speak. They realized that something was wrong with him and Ayumi was the first one who approached him.

"Shinichi-nichan... Why are you like this?"

He smiled and took her in his arms.

"Problems with Ran, Ayumi-chan. And I don't know what to do." he replied gently.

"Ran-nechan? She is also sad…" Ayumi replied.

"What do you mean? " asked the startled detective.

"When she got back from Hawaii she was very angry... but sometimes I can see her crying at home secretly. You know, we used to go and play often there, together with Sonoko-nechan, but after sometime, Sonoko-nechan stopped coming... When we asked Ran-nechan why, she didn't reply and she simply continued to study alone. A few weeks later, some other girls started to come home which were really bad girls! They were constantly saying bad things about you and Sonoko-nechan and Heiji-nichan and Kazuha-nechan... and Ran-nechan didn't do anything, she was just simply listening to them and agree. So we stopped going there. AAAAAhhh Look at the time! I have to go home because my mom said that we will make dinner together this afternoon!'' She put on her shoes, took her umbrella and left. Haibara had already finished her drink and stared at Shinichi.

"What do you want?" she spoke sharply.

"Help..."

"Aha... nice… start explaining!"

And Shinichi told them everything, for the island, the club, the homecoming, the school, the hospital, Kazuha… He spent hours talking... the others were just listening and didn't say anything. When he finished Ai sighed and began.

"At the end… what do you want to do?"

"What do you mean?"

"Want to be back with Ran or not?" she replied annoyed.

"I don't know... What interests me now is Kazuha and I will do everything to bring her back to Heiji."

"Nice... Well from what I heard from Ayumi... these new girlfriends of Ran they are bad influence... So we need to see what happened from the beginning..." she suggested.

"Ok. First of all, what was that letter and who sent it? According to Kazuha, it had photos from the hospital and the guy who sent it knew everything... so was someone from the hospital?" Shinichi started to analyze the situation.

"Maybe yes… maybe no... Maybe it was an outsider and wandered around like a nurse to gather information." Ai continued.

"But the other nurses would had find it out-… wait… there was a blackout then…. Maybe he or she dressed like a nurse then! Because the whole thing happened then!" he shouted.

"Good point! And second, these new friends of Ran and this new boyfriend" Ai continued "bad influence..!" she repeated.

"Yes... ", Shinichi agreed with her.

* knock knock *

"I'm going to open the door", said the professor and left two friends kept talking.

At the door

"My Hello!" said surprised the professor.

"Hello! Perhaps, could you allow me to use your phone? Because my cellphone fell into the water…"

"Yes! Let's go inside then" said the professor happily and showed the way to the guest. "From here please."

"Thank you sooo much!" the guest thanked him and went inside.

"What's your name?" asked the professor.

"My name is Anzu, Anzu-zen Kazama! Nice to meet you!" the girl answered happily.

"Aaaahhh what a nice name... me, my name is Hiroshi Agasa, but they call me Agasa-Hagase."

"Nice!'' she smiled.

"Um... Anzu-chan... you're soaked wet! You were in the rain?", he asked worried.

"Huh? Oh this? Oh it's nothing! I will rent the house over there, but the one who has the keys is not answering his phone."

"Huh? Then maybe he isn't home…"

"No! He is!" she replied annoyed. "The phone?"

"Oh yes... from here in the living room."

They arrived in the living room and the girl went to the phone.

"Hagase, who is this girl?" asked the two interlocutors who were already in the living room.

"She is Anzu, she will rent the house across the road-"

"Where you are? ... What do you mean you aren't home? ... Cut the bullshit and opened the door to get the keys! ... No ... I know very well that you're home ... How do I know? Your car is parked in the garage, there are footprints leading to the door of your house, which is from your shoes- ... Cut the crap that is my own investigation ... AND I'm not done YET! No traces of you leaving your house on the front or the back door or window and nothing ... Yeah ... Yes! ... Let the little chick and opened the door you asshole! ... How do I know? Now, I've become WET BECAUSE OF YOU! COME NOW TO GIVE ME THE KEYS OR ELSE I WILL COME THERE AND IT WILL GET UGLY!", she screamed and closed the phone.

The other three looked at her with an open mouth.

"I am sorry for the inconvenience... A thousand of apologies... and thank you very much for your phone!" she bowed deeply.

"Are you a detective?" Shinichi asked her.

"Um... Yes..." she blushed.

"Nice! So you will stay across the road?" he asked her again.

"Yes... If I get the keys..."

"But the house will be cold!", the detective continued, "What would you say if I ask you to stay at my house for tonight? My parents won't have any problem!"

"Um... and you're?" she said with a worry tone.

"Oh, my apologies… my excitement for finding another detective blew my mind away... my name is Kudo Shinichi."

''AAAAAhhhh, don't tell me you 're the one who solved this case with the Black Organization!" she screamed with excitement.

"Yes... I am..." he answered unwillingly.

"WOW! Man! You are awesome! Congratulations! I envy your courage! I am Anzu-zen Kazama.. I'm from America, but my mother is from Japan and so here I am using her own surname."

"Cool! So what are you saying? Do you accept my offer?"

"YES! But only for today! I don't want to annoy you."

"Nice... then let's get the keys and your stuff and go home!"

And like that a new personality added to our company.
