She woke again, this time opening her eyes slowly. She was in a hospital bed, various tubes and electrodes were attached sporadically over her body. Her body ached, worse than it had ever ached in her life. Her body burned, her throat was raw, and her eyes felt like dust. She began removing some wires in an effort to get out of bed. As her feet touched the floor she stood, wobbly, but she pushed on. She made it two steps when the door opened.
Jax stood in the door way, utter disbelief masking his features, as Harper inched her way across the room.
"What are you doing?" He questioned, rage bubbling in his chest.
"Going home."
"No you're not. Get back in the bed."
"Are you my daddy now?"
"No, but if you don't get back in the bed I'll put you there and someone from SAMCRO will babysit you every second of every day."
Harper locked eyes with Jax; usually she'd fight back and push until she had her own way. This time, she was too tired to fight and Jax's jaw bone poking out told her the severity of his threat.
Once back in bed, Jax moved to her side. He half sat on the side of the bed, keeping one foot placed lightly on the floor.
"What were you doing?"
"Trying to leave. I thought we established that."
"Not now. Two nights ago, when you were in the middle of nowhere racing."
Harper shrugged, "Just racing."
"Why'd you get in a fight with that guy?"
"I didn't. He sucker punched me."
"…why?" He asked, sounding more annoyed than he felt.
"Remember the first night we met?"
"Yeah, at your uncles."
Harper retold the story of her first night racing, while Jax sat on the bed listening intently.
"So your old boyfriend Jason, did nothing?"
"That's why I left him."
"What exactly where you into before you came to Charming?"
"Drug running mostly."
"What's the other part?"
"Wheelman."
"The guy who I beat, was DJ?"
"From how you described him, yeah, sounds like it."
"That's all I need to know. Now you're going to stay in this bed until the doctor's release you. Got it?"
Harper rolled her eyes. In response, Jax flipped out his phone, making a quick call, "Prospect. I need you at the hospital. Room 208"
"Jackson!" Harper fussed, followed by a sharp intake of breath as pain radiated through her body from the sudden movement.
