and in a moment we'll rain down destruction
event 12: "daniel in the den / get home"
"This ship is in our hands. It's been for a while. We have power, as well as you do, and your answer could have so much strength that it sets this into turmoil." Sheionne is leaning in and this sounds very secretive. Shei doesn't want the OTs to hear this. Shei is trying to get with Teagan. But Teagan doesn't know who to get with…
"We have power of the whole world!" Shei laughs loudly and each sentence adds a year on to how old her brain is. "We hold a button in our hand—actually, very many buttons. The oppressed have taken the throne. Children, we're so far ahead you'll never be able to catch up."
A whisper. "We need the power of a person who speaks so much their words aren't letters, they are moments. They are songs. They are events."
Looking at all the people whose futures depend on her words right then isn't the best motivator. No, it never is, she grits her teeth at herself, and is mad at all the times she's ever been pointed out or let go or acknowledged. No. No.
She wasn't handled right.
She doesn't know how to deal with this.
And she can't go back.
She looks back at the Keepers and the leader's face speaks for them all—they are in too deep. Too deep in the most trivial aspect of this battle.
Destruction has taken over.
She hates the world.
Her words may cause a whole lot of heart pounding. "No," she shudders. "Yes."
She looks to Peter and wonders what she had gotten herself into. What this whole story was even about. "I want to fly."
The ship chokes. It inclines to the side and the screams of people thrown off their feet punch Teagan's being, and it's never enough as they rock from side to side to toss someone off but the fear is upheaval enough.
There's a cracking sound, deep below the floors, but it sounds so close.
She doesn't know if she's breathing or if she isn't but either way she isn't getting the right amount of air. She keeps her eyes to Peter—only to him, never to someone else, dare she regret what she said more than she already does. And he nods, eyes light, like this is a regular sight, and waves her.
But she doesn't know how to fly.
"Think good things!" He shouts, over the sounds of wanting-out and almost touching escape.
Being alone, she immediately senses. And she rises from the floor.
The wind won't make way for her and the darkness in her stomach only intensifying. She isn't soaring and her hair is in her face but at least he feet aren't touching what's happening.
This…this is flying. She falters, trying to lift her legs.
Her forced gaze meandered for a second to Sheionne who struggles with her footing and Teagan remembers how she edged along some info maybe she shouldn't have and Teagan is grateful, for seconds long enough to nod when Shei's eyes lift.
And like how she always travels Sheionne just appears next to Teagan and they aviate away from the noise and the light and the ruin.
She is so very sorry.
