Chapter 13

After a night of celebrating Sabrina's return to work, she awoke with Michael's arms wrapped around her. She smiled at the thought of last night and how deepening her kiss with Michael in the elevator turned into her spending the night with him. It had been the first time since Patrick that she had been with someone and she had to admit, she really enjoyed being that close to someone again. For the first time since what was supposed to be her wedding day to Patrick, Sabrina felt truly happy.

Sabrina slowly slid out of bed trying not to wake Michael and headed over to the French doors in his room at the Quartermaine mansion, overlooking Lila's rose garden, which was just starting to bloom. Seeing the flowers bloom was Sabrina's favorite thing about the spring, it was like everything came to life again. It was fitting that everything was coming together for Sabrina at this time. She got to go back to the job she loved and had a great relationship with Michael. She was coming to life again, just like everything else.

Lost in her thoughts, Sabrina was startled when she felt Michael's arms wrap around her from behind and he kissed her neck. She smiled briefly, remembering how much she loved it when Patrick had done that. Refusing to let her past spoil her future, she pushed the thought from her head. Turning around to face Michael, Sabrina smiled, "Good Morning."

"Good Morning," Michael said before kissing Sabrina.

"Hi," Sabrina said, suddenly feeling self-conscious as she realized she was only covered in a sheet. She adjusted the sheet to cover herself better and pulled it tighter. "Your great grandmother's roses are beautiful."

"Not as beautiful as you," Michael said as Sabrina blushed before he kissed her again. "Come back to bed," Michael whispered in her ear before pulling away and taking hold of Sabrina's hand leading her back towards the bed.

"I really should get…" Sabrina started to say before she was silenced by Michael's lips on hers causing her to cave and go with him.

….

Patrick woke up the next morning, still kicking himself for not staying with Sabrina while she waited for Epiphany. He was truly happy for her that she was able to return to work, he knew how much it meant to her and how much she had worked for it. Losing Gabriel had been devastating to her and caused her to make some bad decisions. But after all the bad things that happened to her over the past year, the last thing she deserved was to lose her job. She was great at what she did and it would have a huge mistake for the hospital not to welcome her back.

But he still wished he had stayed. Maybe it would have been the chance he needed to finally tell Sabrina how he felt. To tell her how much of an idiot he had been for letting her go in the first place. For taking so long to realize how he still felt about her. And for not keeping his promise to her to get through the loss of Gabriel together. Patrick knew that he had hurt Sabrina and didn't even know if she would take him back, especially now that she was with Michael. Deep down, Patrick knew that Michael wasn't right for Sabrina, he was.

….

Taking a moment to catch her breath, Sabrina found Michael staring at her. "Why are you staring at me like that?"

"You're amazing," Michael said with a smile.

"Thank you," Sabrina said returning his smile. "You are pretty amazing yourself," Sabrina said moving closer to Michael, laying her head on his chest as he placed his hand on the small of back.

"So, I was thinking," Michael said.

"Oh yeah? About what?"

"I was thinking that I would like you to be my date to the Nurse's Ball so that I can show you off to all of Port Charles."

Hearing Michael mention the Nurse's Ball caused Sabrina to suddenly sit up in bed. "The Nurse's Ball?" Sabrina questioned as a rush of emotions flooded her head.

"Yes, the Quartermaines have always been huge supporters of the ball. We have purchased a table and I want you sitting by my side," Michael said sitting up to join her.

"A whole table?" Sabrina asked, shocked knowing how expensive one seat was, never mind a whole table. Michael seemed so down to earth, it was easy to forget how wealthy he really was.

"Yes, the whole family will be going. So what do you say? Will you be my date?"

The very thought of going to the Nurse's Ball made Sabrina sick to her stomach. The Nurse's Ball and Patrick seemed synonymous with each other. Sabrina had worked so hard to plan the ball two years ago and finally after months of secretly being in love with Patrick, he finally told her that he had feelings for her and they shared that surreal kiss. Sabrina loved performing with Emma and singing with Patrick to end the show. It was so special. And then last year, Gabriel was so sick the night of the ball that she didn't even get the chance to attend. But Emma sang that special song for her and Patrick, which made her smile in spite of everything else going on. The ball was so special to her and Patrick it would seem so strange to be there with anyone else. "Sabrina?" Michael said trying to get her attention.

"Yeah?" Sabrina said.

"What do you say? Will you be my date?"

Sabrina knew as strange as it would be to attend the Nurse's Ball without Patrick, now that she was in a relationship with Michael, it would be just as strange for her not to go with him. "Yes, of course," Sabrina found herself saying. "I'd love to be your date to the Nurse's Ball."
