I know it's been forever sense I've updated this, and I so sorry for that I've been extremely busy. Last week I went to see the new production of the Phantom of the Opera and I'm hoping that it will inspire me to keep writing (btw the production was amazing if you get the slightest chance GO SEE IT.) and now a very late chapter.
Ch. 13
"Christine you have to come back to us, please." The door softly opens and closes and quiet footsteps fill the eerie silence.
"Meg, she will wake up."
"Don't lie to me, I heard you with the doctor" there is a pause before anyone speaks again.
"You know Christine, she's strong-"
"No I don't! Not anymore, she's a stranger to me. I haven't spoken to her sense," another pause "sense Ill Muto."
"Meg, you have fought with Christine before."
"It doesn't matter what we've done before this is different, this time I may never be forgiven."
…
"I must know now, is she going to make it?"
"I'm sorry I can't tell you right now." The doctor's voice sounds irritated
"You must have something it's been three days."
"She's not getting any stronger, but she's not worse" Raoul grunts in frustration. A loud bang is heard with a crash following it. "Really M, was that necessary"
"I apologize" the door quickly opens and hurried footsteps enter the room.
"What was that?"
"I'm sorry Mme. I merely lost my temper for a moment."
"Oh, Raoul you shouldn't make such noise in here"
"Why ever not!" the slight aggression in his voice is not missed by Meg. But instead of cowering down as usual she steps up.
"She might hear you; it would distress her to know that she's causing you misery."
"She can't hear us we've all tried to talk to her. Do you really believe praying by her bedside has done any good?" the melancholy tone silenced everyone.
…
"God please prove Raoul wrong give him hope again, give us all hope. I miss Christine to the point that I feel like I can't go on without her. I feel like I've let her down, I saw that she was ill but I did nothing. Save me from hell and let her come back that I can offer recompense for my terrible sin. But most of all let her come back and save Raoul from going mad. His love for Christine is destroying him; I've seen him pacing the room muttering under his breath. It saddens me to know that his dedication is only for Christine, but I will bare it if only you bring Christine back." A pause follows, cold lips meet my forehead and soft footsteps slowly fade.
…
I dreamed that night that my father came to me, he didn't speak. He only looked at me. No matter how hard I tried I couldn't go to him. I screamed for him to come hold me, to save me from life. They fell upon deaf ears. I woke to the sound of angry uneven breathing; whoever was there didn't move for a long time. At last my door was slammed shut; I didn't have any more visitors that day.
…
I dreamed again, but this time of Raoul. His accusing eyes stared it seemed into my soul. I was scared, scared that he knew everything I'd done. When I asked what was wrong he flew into a rage. Arms waving he screamed at me for abandoning, and betraying him. I was once again woken by ragged breathing, but this time more feminine. My hand was tightly grasped by two small hands they were wet and shaking. Meg's tears fell on my arm.
…
"Christine, are you hiding from us?" Madame Giry's usually sharp voice is softened and defeated. "Are you hiding from him? You don't know how much this is scaring him, he won't come for fear that you will get worse. I told him that he was being ridiculous." There's a sad sigh before she continues. "I fear that if you don't wake soon he will go back to his hole and this time he won't be coming out. You've changed him Christine, you've made him so much gentler and he hates himself for it." Another pause "I know coming back might be intimidating for you with the Vicomte and, and Erik. But you must be the strong woman I know you are and save them both from slipping into madness."
"Madame Giry?"
"Hello Raoul" there's fear in her voice of maybe being caught speaking about him.
"You know who he is?"
"Who?"
"Don't play games with me, I heard you say his name." His ferocious tone scared me
"I know no more than everyone else" her voice is calm, but there is no mistaking the demand to back off from her tone. Raoul apparently hears it and, by the sound of his footsteps, he stalks away.
"God help you all when you do wake up."
