Once again they were in potions and as the class was sitting down and getting out their things Professor Snape came strutting in and he said in a carrying voice, "Today you will be working with partners." And with a glare at Harry, Ron and I he added, "Of my choice." He started assigning partners to the rest of the class and when he got to Harry, he snapped, "You will be working with Mister Weasley," and then turning away from Harry and Ron's shocked faces he smirked and said, "And you miss Granger will be working with Draco." There was some muttering as people moved around the room to their assigned partners. I walked quickly over to Draco blushing as I sat down and he gave me a slight smirk, that unlike his usual one held no trace of maliciousness. "Sorry Granger it looks like you're stuck with me this time," he said grinning at me. At this Hermione just blushed again and smiled. He watched her and wondered where her frosty attitude had gone. "Alright settle down," commanded Snape. Looking out over his class he said, "Today we will be making a potion that usually doesn't come up till your fifth year, but aside from a few exceptions," At this he looked over at Ron," I feel all of you will be able to make at least a passable potion." He then flicked his wand at the board and began, "The potion you will be attempting to make is Amortentia," At his words, there was a large outbreak of muttering and giggling from most of the girls in the room. Hermione could feel Draco's eyes boring into the side of her head and started blushing furiously. "Enough!" Snapped Snape and he stood as he continued, "Can any of you tell me what Amortentia is used for?" Only two hands went up though from the earlier reaction it seemed that a lot of them knew what it was. Both Pansy and Hermione raised there hands, and from the smirk on Pansy's face, she was confident that Snape would call on her. With a bored look at them both, he called on Pansy. "It's a love potion, sir, it causes whoever you give it to fall in love with you!" She said in an excited voice as she practically bounced in her seat. "That is only partially correct Miss Parkinson, Miss Granger can you tell me why?" Both Pansy and Hermione looked like they had gone into shock at his words, but Hermione answered quickly anyway. "Because, sir, it does not really create, love, just an imitation or weak substitute of the feeling." He nodded at her slowly saying, "Correct Miss Granger, Five points to Gryffindor."

The entire class was silent and it seemed as though Ron's jaw might be in danger of falling off at any moment. Snape seeming to not notice the looks of combined horror and awe said with another lazy flick of his wand, "The instructions and list of ingredients are on page 334 of your textbooks as well as on the board. Begin your brewing." As the class went on Seamus managed to blow up his potion for the umpteenth time and Nevile who was partnering with Blaise almost had a nervous breakdown when he messed up, but Blaise was surprisingly nice to the Gryffindor and was able to fix it. Hermione smiled at him and when he smiled back she realized why Ginny "might" like him. "Earth to Hermione, earth to Hermione," she heard Draco's familiar drawl. She spun around in her seat a little bit shocked. Draco seemed taken aback by her sudden attentiveness. "What did you say?" She asked in a puzzled voice. Draco, just as puzzled as her, started to repeat what he had just said. "No no, that's not what I meant, you called me Hermione!" She said stunned. Draco instantly realized his mistake and snapped as he stirred their now bubbling potion, "Well I'm so sorry Miss Granger it won't happen again." Instead of looking hurt by his words as he expected her to, she just smiled and rolled her eyes.

At the end of the class, no one had finished their potions so Snape had them leave their things to finish them during the lesson they had the next morning.
