Infernopaw
It was almost sunset, but I was still running around the camp excitedly, it was the full moon tonight, and tonight was my first gathering. Squirrelflight was watching me dash around the camp, purring at Dovewing's attempts to calm me down.
That's when I felt a paw on my back and I heard my father's voice above me. "That's enough Infernopaw, you need to calm down now."
I sat down on my haunches. "Okay, Bramblestar."
Dovewing looked at him. "How do you do that?!"
"It helps to be his father and clan leader."
Dovewing grumbled something to herself.
Bramblestar turned and led the cats chosen to go with him out of camp, and down the path. I could barely keep from bouncing up and down with excitement, until we stopped in front of a tree that had fallen over, and bridged the shore to an island in the middle of the lake, I didn't realize how scary it would be to cross over water on that tree.
"Are you ready?" Lionblaze asked beside me. I nodded. "In that case, you can go first."
Shaking, I placed one paw after another, my claws digging into the slick trunk of the tree; I did not want to fall in that water. Halfway across one of my paws slipped, I thought I was going to plunge into the lake and sink to its depths, but the other three paws kept me stable and I was able to walk on. When I got to the end I hopped off gratefully, followed by the other cats of Thunderclan.
Squirrelflight licked the top of my head. "You did well for your first time."
I looked up at her and moved close to her, seeking refuge in her soft, warm fur. "It was a little scary"
"It can be scary, but you were very brave." She turned to look at the other cats disappear into the bushes. "Are you ready?"
I nodded slowly and we walked into the clearing, we were the first ones there, it seemed, then a group of cats came out of the bushes behind me, startling me. I picked up a familiar scent before being rammed by a blur of black-and-white fur.
"Hey! Fancy meeting you here!"
"Nightpaw!" I sputtered, trying to get dirt out of my mouth. "Get off!"
"Sorry." I felt the weight lift off my back and managed to sit up. "Hey, is it true you swallowed a squirrel whole?"
I nodded. "Yes, and it felt really good having it squirm around inside me."
"Lucky! I wish I had that kind of ability!"
"You might, I didn't even know I could do it until I did it."
"Hey, look! Riverclan's coming!" Nightpaws ears perked up and he looked through the group of Riverclan cats. He seemed to be seeking out a single cat. "There she is! Hey Riverpaw!"
He waved a paw to a Riverclan apprentice. She just nodded at him and walked off in the opposite direction. Nightpaw purred and turned back to me. "Riverpaw's one of the toughest apprentices in riverclan, we had a little border skirmish and she nearly knocked me out!"
"Well, that's quite a feat, taking into account how thick your head is." I purred.
"Hey!" He meowed at me. "I'll have you know that I have a thick skull to protect my enormous brain!"
"Sure, whatever Nightpaw." I rolled my eyes and stopped, because I saw windclan crossing the tree. Among them I saw an apprentice with extremely long legs for her age, she had grey fur with black spots smaller than Nightpaw's.
"Who's that?" I asked, flicking my tail towards the apprentice.
"Oh, that's Stormpaw, Riverpaw's best friend. She's a little … odd."
"What do you mean? Nevermind, I'm going over to introduce myself."
"Say hi to Riverpaw for me."
I rolled my eyes again and walked over to Stormpaw, who had settled herself in and was talking to Riverpaw. Who glared at me as I approached.
"What do you want?" She hissed at me.
"I just wanted to say hi, my name's Infernopaw."
Stormpaw looked up at me. "I'm Stormpaw." She looked off into the distance.
"Something up?" I asked.
"None of your business!" Riverclaw snapped.
Stormwing looked at me, there was something in her eyes I couldn't place, as if she wasn't all there. "I- I don't know, it just feels like sometimes … I'm missing a part of myself, as if there's this missing piece in my heart that I need to find." She looked over to her friend. "and there's definitely a hole in her heart"
"Yep! And I'm proud of it!" Riverclaw exclaimed, holding her head high.
"Quiet! They're starting!" A voice hissed behind us. I turned around and sat down, facing the tree that the leaders sat in and listened intently to every word, as all four leaders, Bramblestar, Onestar, Blackstar, and Mistystar all spoke, I got one distinct message from all of them, though none of them said anything about it. They were all scared about something, but they weren't sure what.
