Hi guys, this is the last chapter. It was supposed to be sort of based off of the song "Safe and Sound" by Taylor Swift, but I'm not sure if it turned out that way.
After arguing with Jack and my father for a few minutes, I began to hum a song, adding a sleeping enchantment under my breath.
Jack began to notice the drowsiness he was feeling, and tried to snap himself out of it.
I walked over to him, whispering to him softly, "I'll never let you go, Jack."
Pulling away from him, I saw that tears were streaming down his face as he whispered, "Don't leave me here alone…" and succumbed to sleep.
I kissed Jack's cheek and continued humming as I walked toward Pitch.
"I love you, Daddy." I said, trying not to show my sorrow.
"Why?" he asked as he was on the brink of sleep.
I didn't answer his question, only said, "Hold on to this lullaby, even when the music's gone."
Finally my father fell asleep.
I stood and turned around, my weapons softly clanking.
"Let's end this." I said angrily.
"As you wish, Erania." Desper replied.
Mother Nature had been right that this would be a difficult fight. I grabbed my second-to-last weapon, the steel fans, and moved in for close-range fighting.
NP POV:
The girl and I were covered in gashes, and we had both gone through many weapons, quickly learning each other's styles for each one.
She couldn't use her teleporting, since I could easily determine where she would appear, but at the same time, I couldn't use my Black Sand or Oil slick attacks, because she could take control of my creations with her powers.
I jumped back, avoiding an attack from her steel fans, and launched a counter attack, which she blocked.
In my opinion, she had wasted all her good weapons first. My attack shattered the fans she was holding, and suddenly it felt like we were moving in slow motion.
The surprise on her face slowly covered by rage again, the way her hair flew in an invisible breeze when she pulled her face backwards to avoid being hit by the shards of her weapon.
We jumped backwards, and time went back to normal.
She pulled out her final weapon, and gave a warrior's cry as she lunged at me again.
Era's POV:
My katars, my best weapons, practically flew into my hands of their own accord, and I rushed forward, screaming in rage.
The katar whistled through the air as Desper barely dodged my attacks. It felt as if I were moving at light speed, slicing at the man who had tried to frame my father for terrible acts of hatred toward the Guardians.
Each slice brought me closer to him, each whistle of the wind whispering my hate, my rage, my pain.
"I will never allow you to harm my friends or my family again!" I shouted in his face.
He laughed and continued to dodge my attacks.
NP POV:
I grabbed my last weapon, and suddenly, I felt a pain in my chest as I shoved my Black Sand dagger into her chest.
We looked straight into each other's eyes before looking down and finding our weapons lodged in our rivals chest.
"No…" I heard her whisper, "I'm sorry Jack…" before she fell to the ground.
I looked at my dagger in her chest, and laughed as I disappeared.
We would see each other again soon. She just didn't know it yet.
Era's POV:
I could feel my powers weakening, and I felt the exact moment that Jack and Pitch were released from my spell. I could feel them as they ran toward me.
I felt Jack's cool hands hold my face, heard him beg me to open my eyes.
I tried to oblige, but Pitch softly instructed me to keep them closed. It felt strange as I sensed something being pulled out of my chest and dropped to the ground near me.
"You can open your eyes now," Pitch whispered.
I felt tears, both cold and warm, drip on my face as I opened my eyes.
"I'm sorry…" I whispered. My voice was hoarse.
"No," Jack said as he placed his finger over my lips, "you shouldn't speak…"
I looked at them both and whispered, "Just close your eyes… You'll be alright… Come morning light… You and I'll be safe…"
I started crying, and I could tell Jack and Pitch were too choked up to speak.
"And…"
I was beginning to lose my senses.
"Sound…"
I faded away.
Please let me know how I did. Would you guys like to see a sequel? Constructive criticism is always welcome!
