A/N: Hm, I hope last chapter wasn't too angsty. I'll try to have little angst as possible in future chapters. Oh well. Now to la reviews!
Faded Stripe: Aww, Amara! That's a sad memory...Keep up the awesomdly awesome work!
Thanks! ^_^ You gotta feel sad for Amara
MysticHawk: Oh my gods, THAT'S How May died?! Amara threw a football at her?! Did she freaking rupture a freaking blood vessel or a tumor? Good gods, that's like a one in a million chance of this happening. No wonder she's beating herself up so bad about it. Still, I can't wait for more! This is getting better!
LOL, I giggled like crazy when I read your review. NOPE that's not how May died! XD In one of the sentences, I said that May was wearing a bandage around her head, which hints that she has some sort of injury. How did she get it? All shall be revealed later!
Squideepoo: Wow, this is getting interesting! Is May's injury going to be explained at some point? Cause I didn't exactly understand what happened. Still, great job!
Hey, glad to see that you're back! :D And yep, as I said above, Amara's past and May shall be explained...eventually! XD
FallenSnowflakes33: Aw! Thanks for the shout out! *blushes*
*devastated* i'll take back what I said about Amara being a bitch... :(
Regardless, you made a brilliant job yet again! :D
Nahhhh, it's cool, to be honest I was slightly miffed about it, but then again, if I had to babysit somebody that had Amara's attitude, I think I'd be on the verge on throttling the poor kid… XD Welp, thanks for reviwing! :D
InspectorZebra: This is getting a dark turn…
Yes, yes it is. Then again, I did warn that this story won't be all laughs.
Xion5: I'm guessing some sort of very serious head injury here. Ether way it was very dramatic and angst-y. The chapter was awesome as always! Please try and update the next chapter soon because I can't wait to see what happens next! :D
What a very good guess! Yes, it's implied that May has some kind of head injury-but it wasn't caused by Amara. She just happened to throw the football at the wrong time. D: And I hope that there wasn't too much angst last chapter. I seriously don't like my OCs whining about their past (MARY-SUE DX) I'll lower down angst next time…
~Chapter Thirteen~
"ACCK, bloody hell!" Pitch yells, diving behind Sandy for protection from dodging one of Bunny's boomerangs.
The boomerang flies back to Bunny's paw. "You promised us that you won't give the sheila any nightmares! Now I'm gonna beat you to the pulp Pitch!" Bunny yells, red in the face.
"I didn't cause her any nightmares-I just activated a memory that was strongly associated with her fear!" Pitch huffs. "Go on! Tell the Sandy!"
Sandy nods vigorously, stepping in front of the Nightmare King, on his side for-probably the first time in forever.
Jack scowls at Pitch saying, "Okay, sure, if what you say is true, that memory must've been one hell of a nightmare for the kid! Did you even learn anything from the dream? Did you even told her of our existence? Because it seems that she still can't see us!" The frost spirit flies over to Amara, waving his hand in front of her face to prove his point. She shows no reaction, only staring off somewhere, shiverring.
Pitch rolls his eye, tapping his foot impatiently. "Well, sorry if the girl was as bullheaded and insolent, having manners of a mule! Did you honestly think that it'd be that easy for the both of us to convince her? I even had doubts that a lucid dream would work on the girl…"
North rubs his head in frustration and weariness. "All right then. We know that was your first and last attempt of giving little girl a lucid dream...did you learn any new information about the girl?" He asks, a small flicker of hope flashing across his face.
Sandy nods with golden cursive words appearing above his head, "Her name is Amara."
"Amara...Amara...now where have I heard that before?" North mumbles, his bushy eyes coming together.
"I feel like that I heard that name before...though I don't remember!" Tooth says in vexation, her fist slamming into an open palm.
Bunny shakes his head reminding them, "Well you two blokes need to remember soon, we're wasting time the more we're stuck down here."
Sandy turns to Pitch with the cursive words appearing above his head, "What do you think happened in that memory? Did that Amara girl...accidently kill the other girl by throwing a football?" The Sandman turns red from suggesting such a crazy theory.
Pitch scoffs at this. "No, of course she didn't. That's quite a stupid thought."
Sandy starts rolling up his sleeves, with Pitch quickly saying, "Joking, joking, I didn't mean it!" Sandy raises an eyebrow in answer like, Sure, of course you did, but puts it behind. "I mean it Pitch, do you have any idea what happened in that dream?"
The bringer of nightmares strokes his chin in deep thought. "It could be that blonde girl-May, was it?"
North whips around all of the sudden when he heard Pitch said that. "Wait-did I hear you say May?"
"No, I said June," Pitch replies snarkily, giving another one of his eye rolls.
The Guardian of Wonder ignores this statement and paces back and forth. "Yes...yes, it makes sense. Amara and May, I think I know them...the little girl Amara, I remember, having read one of her letters. It was one of the many that struck me over my many years of being a Guardian," North says to the rest, his eyes growing all misty from memory.
"Who was she? And what were her letters about?" Tooth questions.
"With one of her first letters I remember was something about her wanting a family...I think she was an orphan." North states, recalling faintly.
Jack leans his head in asking, "Then what happened to her family?"
North shakes his head. "I don't remember...but I granted the girl's wish, by influencing a family to adopt her. And that is where this May girl comes in...I think Amara got along with her very well, as long as her new family. Though that's when the other letters came in…"
"What were they about? Do you remember?" Bunny presses on.
"Ah...my memory is failing me." North runs his fingers through his silver head. "I think the other letters said something about her sister, May, being injured or sick in some way...but I couldn't help her. It was beyond my power. The letters from Amara stopped coming, I think, so did her belief in me...So, it might be very possible, but horrible to suggest that May...died."
His statement hangs in the air, leaving the other spirits quiet. Even Pitch had a somber expression, the subject at hand not so pleasing to him.
"Then," Pitch announces suddenly, with the Guardians' attention turning to him. "That must mean whatever happened to May must have made Amara stopped believing in the all of you-possibly because she felt betrayed by putting her faith and trust in you." Pitch grimaces at this suggestion. "The girl shouldn't had hoped for so much...it only made her to the bitter young girl she is now."
The Guardians all look at the Nightmare King in surprise and interest. Could they be hearing that...Pitch had sympathy for a child?
Pitch sees their expressions, and glares at them, going back into his normal attitude. "But of course, that serves to show that children shouldn't put so much belief in you seemingly fake figures…"
"What did you just say?" Bunny growls, gripping his boomerangs.
"Forget about it Bunnymund," Tooth advises, putting her hand on his shoulder, shaking her head in disapproval.
"If that's the case, we need to figure out what exactly happened to this Amara child and May. It's the only way for us to understand her." Sandy proposes.
"He has a point." Jack says, agreeing to Sandy's proposition.
"At this point, I'm out of ideas," Pitch admits. "It's just that this incredibly annoying, ill-mannered, and, aboslutely uncivilized child wouldn't just work with Sandy and I in her dream, I mean what more bloody proof can we give her-"
"Who the hell are you?!" a voice rings out, abruptly cutting off Pitch's rant. However, the Guardians recognize this voice instantly, turning to the direction of this new voice.
And shockingly, it was no other than Amara, who is standing up, staring straight at their direction, her gaze fixated on Pitch in particular.
"Holy crap, can she see us?!" Jack sputters out, his eyes bulging out of his head.
But Amara still seems not to hear Jack's comment, her attention clearly fixed on Pitch.
Pitch squints his golden eyes saying incredulously, "You can see me?"
"No duh. Wait…" Amara's eyes widen in recognition. "Hey, you're that weird guy from my dream! What the HELL are you doing down here?!"
A/N: Yaaayyyy, plot twist! :D
