Sadie's POV
On Saturday, before Carter and I left, I told Walt what we were doing. "Are you doing this to save the city or Leo?" Walt asked me when I was done telling him what we were doing.
"A little of both. Mainly because I already know about it and can't back down. That and the little elf still owes me five bucks,"I said. Walt rolled his eyes, then looked at me in the eyes, seriously.
"Just...promise me you'll be careful, Sadie. We have no idea how dangerous this mission could get," Walt said.
"I'll try," I said, then kissed him.
"Come on, Sadie!" Carter called from downstairs. I smiled at Walt then went downstairs. "You ready?" he asked.
"Yes, Carter. Now, let's go!" I said. I ran outside, and down the street to the city bus stop. "Hurry up, you slow poke!" I yelled at Carter, who rolled his eyes and started running faster.
About thirty seconds after Carter reached the bus stop, the bus came. We went onto the bus, and took our seats. "So, why are you doing this, Carter?" I asked him.
"Someone has to watch over you," Carter said.
"There are many people in the group that could save my life, and you know that," I told him.
"You're hard to control, Sadie. You know that. Not many people can control you,"Carter said.
"Annabeth probably could. Have you met Percy?" I said, forgetting about his encounter with Percy trying to beat the crocodile.
"Yes! I met him before you," Carter said. The bus came to a stop near the school and I got up. I walked off the bus, then ran to the flag pole. When I got there, Coral, Annabeth, and Percy were already there.
"Hey, guys!" Coral said, smiling.
"Hi," I said as Carter came up right next to me. I grabbed his arm and looked at his watch. 9:53. The bus dropped us off earlier than we had to arrive. I sat down next to the flagpole/
Annabeth and Percy kept talking while Coral came up to talk to me. "You look a little...impatient," Coral said as she sat down next to me.
"Yeah. Impatient to go on another dangerous mission," I said.
"You have no idea. I hear all about how my parents saved Deltora by befriending dragons and killing many monsters. Now, I'm the heir to the throne, just as my dad was, though he didn't know it for part of the time. I want to prove myself as a worthy heir, just as he did. And, I'm sure that this will prove me worthy," Coral said.
"Wow. Do you really think it's going to be hard being a queen? I would think that the queen's life would be nice. Full of gold and nice jewelry worth a lot," I said.
"That's what they make you believe, huh? But really, my job would be to make sure my people are happy, and that they trust me. I have to make sure that they have food, and money, and that the city doesn't get attacked by monsters. I have to make sure Deltora is safe and happy. Plus, Deltora is as large as a state, so it will be hard to keep track of most," Coral told me.
"Wow. I didn't know that a queen had to do that much," I said as Calypso, Hazel, and Frank showed up, with Piper and Jason behind them, holding hands.
"Alright," Coral said, grabbing Carters wrist to look at the time. "Right on time, too."
"Calypso insisted," Hazel said.
"Why don't you guys just ask me what time it is?" Carter asked.
"Because it's more fun to make you mad," I said, and followed Annabeth, who was taking the lead.
"Since when are you and Coral friends?" Annabeth asked me.
"Well, that's the thing with me. I could look like I want to kill someone one day, then we can be best friends the next day. I'm just like that," I told her. It was true.
"Wow. It doesn't make sense, but somehow, I know what it means. Man, Percy is starting to rub off on me," she said. I laughed.
"That's how Carter feels when it comes to me sometimes," I said.
"You can't be any dumber than Seaweed Brain over there," she told me.
"No, maybe not, but Carter is like a walking encyclopedia," I told her.
"I have a friend named Philby who's like that, too. He works in the castle. We just recently had technology come to Deltora, so we invited Philby to come and teach the class, since he was from the outside world and familiar with the subject," Coral said from behind us.
"You mean you never had technology in Deltora, and have to have a class to know how to work it?" I asked her, falling behind to talk to her.
"Yes. I told you, we aren't familiar with the devices. My parents allow me to have a cell phone, but I don't really use it. Besides to listen to music, I mean. I'll listen to Selena Gomez all day," she told me.
"That's what i pods are for," I told her.
"We don't have those yet. We're just starting out with cell phones and computers. Maybe if we have a lot of people getting music on their cell phones, then we'll get i pods. But for now, I fell like I'm the only one who likes music," she said.
"Do you have gum?" I asked
"What's that?" Coral asked, as we arrived at the bus stop.
"Something that came out before cell phones did," I answered, then took out my emergency gum packet. I took out a piece of gum, unwrapped it, then held it out to her. "Here. Don't swallow it. Just keep chewing," I instructed. I never thought I would have to tell someone how to chew gum!
She put it in her mouth, then started chewing. "Wow! I have to convince my parents to get these for Deltora!" Coral said, eyes wide.
"I chew half a pack each day. Carter says it's too much, but I don't think it's enough," I told her. She laughed and nodded.
"Where do you get all the money to buy all this gum?" Coral asked me.
I shrugged. "Carter has a job now. I usually take it from his wallet, give him one piece, then keep the rest for myself," I said.
"Do they come in different flavors?" Coral asked me. She was asking a lot of questions, but I was happy to answer questions about one of my favorite topics: gum.
"Yeah. You should see all of the different flavors they come in. There's spearmint, bubblegum, key lime pie, and more. Right now, you're chewing bubble gum flavored."
"Sadie, you're not getting Coral addicted to gum like you are, are you?" Carter asked me.
"I'm letting her try gum. She seems to really like it," I said.
"Just don't chew half a pack a day like Sadie does," Carter told Coral.
Coral smiled. "Can't promise you a thing," she said, making me laugh.
The bus came a couple of minutes later, and, to our luck, it was empty. We still sat two to a seat. I sat with Coral. "So you like Selena Gomez?" I asked her.
"Yes. We still don't have a lot of music, but I managed to find a few that I will listen to," she told me.
"Is there any music you don't like?"I asked her.
"I did find the band One Direction a little annoying," she told me. (No offense to those One Direction lovers out there. Never really been a big fan of 'em)
"That's typical," I said.
"What kind of music do you like?" she asked me.
I shrugged. "Depends on my mood," I said. "But I really like Adele."
"Oh. I'll have to listen to her music. Anna liked Adele," Coral said sadly.
"Sorry. I tend to do that a lot," I said.
"Do what?" Coral asked me.
"Quickly change the mood," I told her.
"No. It was my fault for bringing her up," Coral said. "Besides, changing the mood can turn out good. Like if we're in a gloomy mood, you can change it by telling a joke, making us laugh."
"Or doing something funny to Carter...," I said. She laughed.
"Yes. Or do something funny to Carter. Or just watching you two fight. It's really funny watching you insult him and come up with great comebacks while he struggles with comebacks. Sometimes he manages to make a really funny one, though," Coral said.
"I didn't know it was funny watching us fight," I said. "Carter can't come up with good comebacks, because he's been a goody goody for most of his life."
"To be honest, I have too. I do not think it's that bad, but sometimes I wish that I could gather the courage to do something bad. I never could. Endon would always get into trouble. Were so different," Coral said, a sad look in her eyes.
I smirked. "Maybe I could help you with that," I told her.
She looked at me curiously. "How would you be able to do that?" she asked me.
"What stops you from doing 'bad' things?" I asked her.
"The fear of getting in trouble I guess," Coral told me without hesitation.
"Okay, well you have to conquer that fear," I said.
"How?" she asked as the bus stopped in front of the Statue of Liberty. Well, the lake to it, anyway.
"I'll figure it out," I said as I parted off into Annabeth's group.
"Figure what out?" Carter asked me.
"How to help Coral conquer her fear of getting in trouble," I said.
"I think that's a great fear to have, especially if she's going to be queen of her city. Plus, how are you going to help her conquer that fear?" Carter asked me.
"Oh, but I helped you conquer that fear. Sort of," I said.
"Okay, so I talked to Coral and she told us to try to contact her if anything doesn't look right," Annabeth said. "We are going to be looking for weird, shadowy figures. She says that the way to spot an Ol is to see glitches in people or things. Or if something looks out of place. She wants to warn you that there's other creatures of the Enemy. Any questions?"
I asked, "What kind of things?"
"I'm not sure what they are, but Coral will signal us if she sees one of them," Annabeth told me.
After that Annabeth lead the group to the boat that was going to take us to the Statue of Liberty.
Hey! I really hope you liked it! Sorry I haven't updated in forever. My mom cut my computer time to an hour. (I used to be on it for like 5 hours here on FanFiction, writing all three FanFictions!)
