"Unless the second Kira was among Light's friends -which I highly doubt- we didn't come into contact with anyone that could be her," I told Ryuzaki. "You said 'her', why 'her'?" asked Ryuzaki.
"I have reason to believe the second Kira is a girl," I replied.
Silence.
"You never told me," he said. "No. I didn't."
"You now have 6% that you are the second Kira," said Ryuzaki. I gawked, "Seriously? That's almost funny." I said. "How else would you know Kira is a she?" he asked solemnly.
"The second Kira used a voice changer, a very crappy one if I might add, and I heard cracks, where the machine would mess up and I could hear a female voice. Unless Light is secretly a woman, that's also how I suspected there was a second Kira." I explained.
More silence.
"I wouldn't be surprised if Light were a woman," he said after a silence filled with tension. I burst into laughter.
"I heard that," muttered Light who was obviously irritated. But Ryuk seemed just as amused as I was about the whole thing.
"Ha ha, that's funny." I said. "So are you a woman?" I asked. Light muttered something about lacking femininity as he stormed off.
"2%," said Ryuzaki. "Only 2% suspicion," he said as I got up to leave. I smiled and I went into the next room where the news was being broadcast.
"Geoffrey Montenegro, recently tried for the murder of his wife and disappearance of his daughter, has died of a heart attack today. Many believe this is the work of Kira." said the female anchor.
"Layne? Are you okay? You look sick." said Matsuda sounding concerned. I twitched. "He didn't deserve to die that much. He didn't need to die, this is my fault..." I muttered under my breath. "Why? Are you Kira?" asked Light. "HELL NO I'M NOT! HE WAS A RELATIVELY GOOD, YET COLD FATHER!" I yelled kicking him into next week.
"It was a relevant question Layne, how would you know this man anyway?" asked Matsuda. "He a friend of mine's dad." I said, which was a L-I-E lie.
"Oh... I'm so sorry for your friend," said Matsuda. I'm sorry for her too. I thought sadly.
That was an eye opener for me. I felt like I needed to treat people right because I never knew when they would be gone forever. Sounds cheesy, but it's true.
"Layne, you yell more than any other person I've ever met. What is the big deal?" asked Ryuzaki. "Layne's friend dad died in prison because of Kira." said Matsuda. "And why is Light on the floor moaning?" asked Ryuzaki.
"I kicked him because he accused me of being Kira. Nobody deserves to die, almost no matter the crime. Now I won't stop until Kira is off the face of the Earth." I said in a way that I've never heard myself talk before, and frankly it kinda scared me.
"Sorry, I just need to think, be back in a little while," I said leaving the hotel room.
I was walking when I heard, "Where are your shoes?" asked a girl's voice. "I'm not wearing any. Is that a problem?" I said solemnly. "No, just curious. My name is Misa Amane, what's yours?" she asked. "Layne Lawliet." I said but when I turned, I saw the creature. "So you can see me," she said.
The creature had a rich voice, but had little emotion, her voice was like a narrator's. I nodded. "How interesting." she said. "What's wrong Layne, you seem dazed." said Misa almost smugly. "Nothing. I should get back home." I said turning back to where I came from. "Oh, where do you live?" asked Misa.
"I shouldn't say, my roommates wouldn't approve." I said. "Oh you have roommates? Cool do you go to college around here?" she asked excitedly. "Um, no. My roommates and I are studying to be journalists at UCLA. We came here because the Kira case caught our attention." I lied smoothly. "Really? Cool! Isn't Kira amazing?" she asked. "I disagree. I'll be going back now," I said. "Okay! Hope to see you soon Layne!" said Misa.
Something was off about that girl...
