Hello! I've finally updated!
Chapter 12
I was still in that apartment. I hoped that when I woke up, there was a slim chance that it was all a dream and those Fairies didn't capture (or "Helped" as some people would say) me. And I was on my way to the mountains with my original plan. Of course that was a slim chance…
The young one was standing over me again, resplendent brown eyes gazing fondly at me.
"Anything hurt? Sleep well?" I nodded no, still too groggy to speak. Wendy nodded then walked to the couch, rummaging through a bag of… I couldn't tell from where I was. One could hope it was medicine and other healing products. I tried sitting up, pushed against the white sheets of the mattress. The bandages around my hands were fresh. I lifted a hand, gently running a finger over the cloth.
"You do this?" Her pigtails whisked around as her head moved. She nodded lightly, confusion flitting across her features.
"Yeah. Why wouldn't I?" I shook my head bit, looking down.
"Sure… never mind." I whispered, a corner of my heart touched. Without knowing me… she helped me… Before that moment, I was starting to believe those people were only found in stories. I took another look around the apartment, but nothing was really different. My stuff was strewn against the pink wallpaper, the doors were in the sames places. Three rooms of the apartment were still the same. The main difference was just the lack of people. It seemed only and Wendy and I were in the area. What about the one who owned the place?
"Where's Lacy?"
"Lucy."
"Yes, Lucy, she owns this apartment right? Where is she?"
"Dunno." The young mage shrugged, approaching me with little glass bottles filled with… I have no clue… "She took off early, said she'd be back soon. And bring breakfast." I agreed with the statement, clock on the wall above my pack catching my eye. The pendulum vacillated, my blue eyes following the gold.
"A lot of trust in you, eh?"
"Hm?" She opened a glass cylinder, strong herbal scent clouded the around us.
"She left you and a complete stranger alone in her apartment. You don't think that's weird?" I flinch visibly as she gently lifted my shirt reveal a battered and bandaged torso.
"I guess, but she's nakama, she's family, we trust each other." I rolled my eyes.
"Oh right… that guild family crap…"
"It's not crap!" The bluette cried, stopping suddenly. I hissed as air pressed against the poultice spread on the cut.
"Yeah, yeah that's what they all say, but worst comes to worst. Human nature kicks in. We just try to survive."
"I can't believe that."
"You don't have to." I leaned back into the pillows and stared at the ceiling while the mage replaced the bandages. After the second collapse I stopped fighting the medical treatment, if they wanted to give away free help, fine. I might as well take it.
"So what's your story?" Wendy asked, moving to dress the cuts on my hands.
"Excuse me?"
"You know what I mean." The young girl moved diligently, I shifted slightly, just so I could see what she was up to. Maybe I was a little more beat up than I admitted.
"I guess I don't have much to say. My life is just another sob story I guess, nothing too extraordinary… Why do you want to know anyways? I'm truly not that interesting." She laughed a little, capping the green stuff and opening a jar to reveal a pale blue gel with darker flecks. The smell was less potent and sweeter.
"It's comments like that make you so interesting."
"Hrmf, if you say so." I chewed the inside corner of my lip, did she have any medicine that didn't sting?
"But seriously, what was your life like? Before this?" I rolled my eyes and faced the window. The river rolled by, part of a bridge visible from my vantage point. People strolled by, bright figures against the gray cobble stone. Flurries of green where trees were dotted the area, and a pale jay colored sky was plastered over the whole area. Lucy had a nice view.
"Not telling."
"Alright fine, but can you atleast tell me your name?" Her voice was completely innocent, an involuntary sigh escaped my lips. I continued to watch the people parade by, a wide variety of fashion choices catching my eye. If she really need to know, maybe it wouldn't be the end of the world, they heal me, I'll pay the one debt now…
"Kaliska."
So the fairies know her name now! Progress! Any authors who consider themselves good at writing about people and people relations. I... do do not consider that to be my forte. So if anybody has tips :D I'm all ears!
Until the next chapter! Have a nice day everybody! Review~!
