Multiplying
chapter 13
The new mom's have easily settled into their newborn's schedule. Maura was strictly sticking to every detail. Although Jane was having a little trouble with the schedule. Because of her own pregnancy was as of today officially nine days past her due date. Her size was three times bigger than Maura had ever been while pregnant. It was getting harder and harder for Jane to move around. She was however still working refusing to take her maternity leave .
Their son still needed a name. They had been discussing it for thirteen days. They had only one day left before his birth certificate was filled in as only Boy Isles – Rizzoli.
Maura wanted to name their son Rodolphe. It was in honor after Rodolphe Archibald Reiss the man who founded the first school of forensic science in the world. But Jane wanted to name their son after Nikola Tesla. For two reasons, first she liked the idea of calling him Nicky. The second reason she admired Tesla. She felt his experiments led to the reason we now have wifi . She had read about every other experiment Tesla had performed which she thought they all were well...just so cool.
Maura finally says after fighting about the names for thirteen days. "Jane we cannot name our child after a man just because you think his experiments were cool or his name is cool."
Stubborn as always but still Jane jokes and says " He had a cool looking mustache too."
Maura couldn't help but laugh as she held rocking their son in her arms. She looks up at Jane smiling shaking her head no. But then as Maura was about to defend her choice of Rodolphe. There was a little sound coming from their son.
Jane ran over and pointed down at him "He laughed and look a smile Maura. He likes Nikola, c'mon let's call him Nicky?"
"No , Jane I don't want to name him after a some random mad scientist . I think we need to choose a third name . We both have to let go of our first choices okay ?"
Jane feeling defeated throws herself down beside Maura and their son on the couch.
She exhales loudly "Fine Maura. You have a second name because I don't ? Remember we have to name him by tomorrow ."
"I know , I know Jane. I don't have a second name either though. Maybe we.."
Maura's phone across the room rings Jane jumps up to go answer the phone . "I'll get it."
Maura plays with the baby and jokes with him "You don't want to be named after a mad scientist ? No you don't do you? How about Honorus he was a great doctor who.."
Jane hears the name as she walks back with the phone in her hand "No , no Hornyus no Maura. He'll get made fun of." Jane hands out the phone to her. " Here the calls for you , it's Isles Foundation . Give me little Horny I'll hold him while you're on the phone."
Maura gives Jane the baby laughing and takes the phone. "Really Jane , I said Honorus not Horny."
Jane takes the baby and walks away rocking him "Whatever same thing Maura."
Jane walks outside with the baby. She wanted to give Maura privacy to discuss her foundation things with her mother. She also wanted to go to the tortoise pen to check on the tortoises. Jane felt they were being a little neglected since the baby was born.
Jane and the baby walked in the pen . Bass and Clemmy both come scampering toward them.
"Hi guys, what you want to say hi to my boy "Hornyius"?"
Maura comes into the pen behind them laughing "Honorus not Hornyius Jane. I'm going to feed the tortoises Jane ."
Maura starts filling the feeding trays as she lovingly watches Jane playing with their baby and the baby tortoises.
Maura fills the last tray and turns to Jane "Mother told me the foundations experts have finally translated most of the letters from the girls. Isn't that wonderful? I can't wait to find out what they say can you?"
Confused Jane says "What girls? What letters? Oh wait you mean the girl pirates? The letters from the treasure box Bass dug up from the backyard. Ooh! Yes! When can we get them?" Jane excitedly bounces the baby waiting for Maura's answer.
Maura stands up and takes the baby from Jane "Come here little boy. Um I don't know she didn't say. But mother said they might be able to put them up for auction soon if we want?"
"No I don't want to sell them. I want them , don't you?"
Maura smiles big "Oh yes I was hoping you felt the same as I did about Anne and Mary's love letters to each other. But Jane , mother said they are really worth a lot so maybe we should consider it?"
Jane whines and takes the baby back from Maura "Nooo didn't we make enough money from the coins and jewelry from the box already? I want to keep those letters."
Maura adjusts the blanket around the baby as Jane bounces him. "Yes I think we did make a lot of money from the box. But Jane what about Angela? I'm sure she would like more. She was talking about opening a restaurant the other day . That is going to take an awful lot of money. I think more than she has from the pirate treasure."
Jane stops bouncing "Yeah maybe we should ask Ma what she wants to do. But after we name our boy?"
Maura nods her head and starts to putting away the tortoise's food.
"I'm going to take little Nicky Horny in for his nap. Come when you finish with this and we can decide on a real name for Nikola Rudolph the red nose reindeer." Jane laughs as she walks out of the pen.
Maura yells out to her "Rodolphe not Rudolph the reindeer . Oh Jane really."
Maura finishes up and walks back into the house. She washes off her hands in the kitchen then heads for the nursery. As she walks in she sees Jane asleep sitting in the rocking chair with one hand on the rail of the crib. Then she looks in the crib. She sees their son asleep propped up laying in between Rizzy's arms "the big pink bear".
Maura leans in and covers the baby and bear with a blanket. Jane wakes up when Maura's leg brushes hers.
"What , what Calico's here? Oh Maura sorry I must've fallen asleep."
Maura is struck with a thought . Hoping Jane will like it as much as she is starting to like the idea more every second. "Jane I think you just said it. What about it? You like that name as much as I do?"
Jane rubs her sleepy eyes. "What name? I didn't hear it , what is it again?"
"Oh I thought you were telling me your idea for his name...Well how about Calico? Calico and Jack for his middle name. Calico Jack Isles – Rizzoli , I love it don't you?"
Jane chuckles and grabs Maura and pulls her down into what's left of her lap. Her belly is so huge there is only a few inches of Jane's lap for her to sit on but Maura manages to sit down on her lap.
"Maura you want to name our son after a pirate? Really?"
"Well yes , Oh c'mon it's original I really like it more and more as I'm thinking about it."
"Okay yeah Calico. We can call him Cali , Cal or Jack. There's a lot of choices there. Yeah Calico it's a good name I like it too."
Maura hugs and kisses Jane. Jane pulls back smiling.
"Now we have to think up a name for when I have this baby. That is if it ever decides to come out. Seriously nine days over due , I feel like I'm going to explode any second now."
Maura smirks and raises one eyebrow at Jane. "You know medically speaking they say having an orgasm will induce labor. Soooo I mean I can't have sex for a while yet. But I can help you have an orgasm if you want?"
"Yes please! I'll try anything to get this kid to pop out. Besides you have always have helped me before ….c'mon let's go."
Maura smirks nodding her head yes as they get up and check on the baby . Then they run to their bedroom.
The next day Jane was totally frustrated and taking it out on everyone in her sight. Jane had refused to take off work she wanted to work up until she had the baby. Lt. Cavanaugh and the rest of the squad (actually the whole eastern seaboard) begged her to go home and take her maternity leave from work. She finally did today when she was driving into the precinct for work and had gotten stuck behind the wheel of her car and couldn't get out. Since she couldn't walk into the station. She just put her car in reverse and drove home. Maura called Jane's brothers for help . Frankie and Tommy helped to pry her out from behind the steering wheel of her car .
As Maura was watching holding their son Calico in her arms she just laughs and says "Jane Isles-Rizzoli is now officially on maternity leave."
Frankie and Tommy started applauding and hooting and hollering at Jane.
Jane grunts and grumbles as she started walking into their house. As she walked pass Maura she took the baby from her and said.
"C'mon Calico you're the only one I like right now. Let's go have some breakfast."
Frankie and Tommy look at each other after hearing the baby's name for the first time.
In unison they say "Calico? Calico Jack ...Cool!"
As Jane steps one foot into the doorway she feels something. She feels something wet running down her leg.
Jane screams out to Maura "Maura! Help! I think somethings wrong."
Maura , Frankie and Tommy run to Jane. Maura looks at Jane's legs
"Oh Jane we have to get you to the hospital. Now! Frankie help me get her to the car. Tommy take Calico inside the house."
Tommy chuckles "Calico come here . That's such a great name you guys."
