Hello!

Yes, that's right!

I finally got my computer back!

I'm so happy!

I am so sorry to keep all of you waiting.

I hope you enjoy this chapter.

Chapter 13

I approached the teacher at her desk. According to my schedule, her name was Mrs. Moslin. She signed my pass and told me to sit at an empty desk near the back of the room. I took a seat. As I looked around, I felt so out of place. I wanted to blend in, but that wasn't going to happen. I got many weird looks. I tried to keep from making eye contact as I scanned the room. A girl on the opposite side of the room caught my eye. She had dark skin and very short brown hair. She was one of the only girls wearing pants instead of short black skirts. The thing that caught my eye was the book she had buried her nose in. The Hobbit. I'd read it many times. It was one of my favorites. She glanced up and caught my eye. I quickly looked away but not before I saw her smile.

Class was boring. Mrs. Moslin had me introduce myself. So did all of the other teachers I had. Other than that, I didn't say a single word to any student. That is, until fourth hour, Anatomy. I took a seat near the back. The girl from my English class sat next to me. She wore black leather pants, her polo, and a black leather jacket that stopped just at her hip bone. She had tall combat boots just like mine. A long black chain hung from her neck. Two nails, bent into a cross, strung along it. Her hair was slicked back like the eleventh Doctor.

"Hello." She smiled. "Your names Eden, right?"

"Yes." I answered.

"That's what I thought. Cool name. My name is Alexandria, but you could call me Alex or Alec or Stormaghedon. I don't really care." She laughed and I joined.

"Nice." I wasn't sure what to say.

"I like your shirt. Doctor Who is my favorite show!" She told me.

"Mine too." That was all I could say before the bell rang and everyone grew quiet.

Anatomy was one of my favorite subjects. I thought the human body was so interesting. Apparently so did Alex. She took loads of notes and I could tell she enjoyed learning. She didn't have the dull, emotionless expression that every other student did.

Once class was over, we were dismissed for lunch. I was starving. I had third lunch so we were one of the last classes to eat. I got up and walked towards the door. Just before I shoved my way through, I felt someones hand on my shoulder. It was Alex. She walked right next to me as I followed the others down the hall and into the cafeteria. Unsure of where to go, I was relieved when Alex offered to help.

"Just follow me." She said. I did.

It was just like my old school. We followed a line along a counter where women in hair nets plopped scoops of glob onto our trays. My mom had already set up my lunch account. Connected to her credit card, money was subtracted each day when I got my lunch. I followed Alex past a cart where we grabbed eating utensils and napkins.

"You can sit with David and I." She offered.

"Okay." I wasn't going to turn down a seat.

She lead me to a table. It was almost empty except for one other student. A boy. He had soft-looking dark hair that covered his ears. He wore a leather jacket and black skinny jeans. As we sat down, he looked up and noticed me.

"Who's this?" He asked Alex.

"This" she gestured to me. "is Eden. She's new."

"Oh. Hey, Eden. That's a cool name." He smiled. He was incredibly handsome.

"Thanks." I tried to act casual. I took a spoonful of the mush called 'spaghetti' that rested on my tray. I studied it.

"Oh don't eat that!" Said Alex. "The food is disgusting. I always pack my lunch, but I forgot it this morning. I would've had my Aunt Sally bring it in, but she had to get to work early this morning. She's a police officer at Scotland Yard."

"Shut up, Alex!" Joked David. "No one cares."

"No, no. It's kind of cool." I told them both. Alex gave David a smug little smile.

"I'm living with her. This past summer, my parents decided to move out of the school district. I couldn't bare to leave David, though. He'd have no one! So I begged them to let me stay with my aunt." She explained.

"Oh how kind of you." David joked.

I wasn't sure if there was something going on between them, but they seemed close. Way closer than most friends.

"We don't really have any other friends. They're all idiots, everyone at this school. We're major geeks and no one understands us. They think we're weirdos so they usually ignore us." Alex told me, her mouth a hard line.

"It was kind of like that at my old school. I only had one friend."

"And where was that?" Questioned David. "Definitely not here in the UK."

"No. I'm from Indiana."

"Woah. That's pretty far."

"I know. It's nice, but I've always wanted to visit here." I tried to sound chill. I wasn't really sure how to keep a conversation going. I didn't really talk very much. "So what other fandoms are you guys in?"

Their eyes lit up. They each took turns suggesting things they loved.

"Harry Potter" said David.

"The Hunger Games" added Alex.

"Supernatural"

"Divergent. Oh! And The Mortal Instruments!"

"Percy Jackson and The Lord Of The Rings."

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. These people had listed all of my favorite things. I couldn't help but smile. Patzy sometimes watched Doctor Who, but she wasn't really into it. And she hated reading.

"I love all of those! Especially Percy Jackson! When I was young, I was convinced I was a demigod! A daughter of Athena."

"I always wanted to be one of Artemis's hunters!" cried Alex.

We continued to talk about the things we loved. Alex and David seemed really awesome. Once the bell rang and we parted, Alex and David giving me directions to my next class before we went separate ways, I began to feel more comfortable here. Though I kind of stuck out like a sore thumb, I had still managed to make friends. I made my way across the school, following the directions that they gave.

I had three more classes after lunch. The final bell rang and i was relieved. I managed to survive my first day at my new school. I headed straight to the office where I returned the pass, now full of signatures, to Mrs. Pam. She asked how my first day was and I told her fine. I exited the office and made my way through the hall that was now filled with anxious students. With my bag slung over my shoulder, I walked towards the front doors. I stopped when I heard someone calling to me.

"Eden!" It was David. He was leaned up against a locker, his hands in his pockets and a black book bag hanging from his shoulder. He had put on a beanie since I last saw him. I made my way towards the row of lockers he was by. "Alex had to talk to her geometry teacher real quick, but she wanted me to stop you from leaving before she got to talk to you."

"Okay." I said. "I can stay. No one's coming to pick me up and I don't have a certain time I need to be home."

"Good. Actually, I think Alex wants to hang out sometime. It's a little strange. Between you and me, she's kind of awkward and she doesn't normally enjoy talking to people. I'm really surprised she befriended you."

"Oh." I may have sounded a bit sad when I replied because David's smirk quickly changed into a worried smile.

"Not that you aren't cool enough for her to want to be friends with. I-I just mean that she isn't very good at making friends..."

"I get it. I understand what you're trying to say. Don't worry." I told him.

"Cool." He sounded relieved.

Just then, I spotted Alex walking towards us. She saw me and quickened her pace.

"Oh good. I wasn't sure if I could trust David here to stop you."

"Rude.." David joked.

"So Eden, I was telling David how I would love to hang out with you sometime."

"That would be great." I replied.

"Awesome!"

"So Eden, where are you heading right now?" Asked David.

"Back to the flat where I'm staying." Then I realized, I had no idea how to get there. "Actually, I can't remember how to get back."

"What's the address? We could probably help you find your way home." Alex offered.

"Oh it's...um.." I scrambled for the address. "Oh! It's 221b Baker Street."

"I know where Baker Street is." Chimed David.

"Hmmm.." Alex had a blank expression. She was chewing on her lip. "That sounds really familiar."

Sooo...how did you like it?

I really like this chapter.

Here's a secret; I kind of wrote myself into the story. Yes, the character Alex is based loosely on me.

Anyway, please tell me what you think!

Thanks

-Alex :)
