With NarutoWhen Naruto woke up, it was mid-morning. The sun was just rising above the trees, and Narumi was sitting next to the woman, whom he had rescued the night before, in the form of a regular, red fox. When she saw that Naruto was awake, she switched back to human form and walked over to him. "Good morning sleepyhead, sleep well?" she asked cheerfully
"Great actually. Why didn't you wake me up to take the second watch?" Naruto asked
"I tried, you slept through every elemental fist and dragon I could think of. At that point, I figured you could use the rest, so I took turns keeping watch with a local Fox." Narumi explained
"In that case, how is she?" Naruto said referring to the woman on the table
"She hasn't moved yet. She's breathing normally, and her heart rate is normal, so she is alive. Is there any possibility that she is still under the effects of the tranquilizer?" Narumi suggested
"No, it should have worn off hours ago. Is she sleeping?" Naruto asked
"Her chakra is in the extremities, not the core, so she is awake," Narumi remarked
"I don't like to do it without the person's consent, but this is an extenuating circumstance. I am going to ask her what is wrong directly." Naruto announced
"Be careful, you probably won't like what you find," Narumi warned
Naruto walked over and placed his hand on The Woman's forehead and said "Mind Bridge, forced gate."
In The Woman's mindscapeWhen Naruto opened his eyes what he saw frightened even him. The black walls and floor were covered with a white spider web of cracks which spewing an ominous purple-black vapor. In the center, The Woman was curled up in a ball surrounded by distorted images of the men he had fought the night before. He instantly used a blast of purified youki to dispel the specters. The Woman looked at him.
"Are you here to rape me too?" The Woman asked matter-of-factly
"No, never. What happened to you?" Naruto responded shocked
"They kidnapped me and killed my family when I was thirteen. I have been their slave ever since." The Woman answered in a monotone voice
Upon hearing this Naruto's blood went from boiling to vaporized. "Well, they will never bother you again, they're dead." Naruto reassured
"Okay." The Woman responded without the slightest hint of expression on her face
Suddenly the specters of her former tormentors reappeared around her. Naruto once again dispelled them but they just reformed the instant the pulse ended so Naruto severed the bridge.
Back in the clearing"She is broken, they shattered her mentally. They kept her as a slave since she was thirteen. Her tormentors continue to torture her in her mind." Naruto said
"Is there anything we could do?" Narumi asked grasping for hope
Naruto mustered his strength and injected half a tail of purified youki into the woman, and she didn't even stir. "Nothing. She has no family, the bastards killed them all when she was kidnapped. I don't want to say it but…"
"But what?" Narumi inquired dreading the answer
"I think the kindest thing we can do for her is to just end her suffering," Naruto said pulling out a vial of a black substance that seemed to draw light into it.
"What is that?" Narumi asked suppressing tears
"It is the tears of a death dragon. It kills in any concentration. After about a second all bodily functions shut down simultaneously, she won't feel a thing. It is the most humane possible death we can give her." Naruto said solemnly as he uncorked the vial and let a drop of the life-extinguishing fluid fall into its victim's throat. A second later she was dead. Naruto once again used the Jutsu which he had used to pull her into the stone and a second to inscribe a short message into the stone "Here lies a victim of this cruel, callous world. May she rest in eternal peace. She will never be forgotten." He cast a final Jutsu that caused the message to appear in the reader's native language.
"I know that she is better off now, but why did she have to die? Why couldn't we have the power to save her?" Narumi asked
"I don't know if I would have if I could, she endured terrible things that no living creature should ever have to endure. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy, not even the bastard that forced you to attack the village. She died years ago, we just freed her soul from that prison of a body" Naruto replied
The demonic couple sat there silently for what seemed like hours reflecting on the events of the morning.
"We really need to be getting back, people will be searching for us soon," Naruto said transforming into his demon form then, one of his three heads motioned for Narumi to get on. Once she was seated, he shot off in the direction of Konoha.
In Konoha a few days later, training ground 3Naruto was nearing the area where his parents had told him to meet them when he saw Kurenai standing against a tree twenty paces away. He started to turn around to find a way around her when he heard her yell "Naruto, wait! I need to talk to you." At this Naruto walked over to her ready for whatever might follow. "I need to apologize for how I have been acting since the first day of training."
Flashback: Just after Naruto's confession"NARUTO UZUMAKI! GET BACK HERE RIGHT NOW" Kurenai yelled on the verge of tears. The young ninja stopped and allowed her to catch up. "What was that? Please, tell me this is some kind of horrible joke. That you haven't been cheating on me with a demon!" Kurenai pleaded
"I wish I could, but I can't lie to you. I meant to tell you but could never think of a way to do it without hurting you. I love you and never wanted to see you hurt. I was hoping that you would be willing to share me as Narumi is but I know I can't force this on you. If you can't accept that, I hope we can continue to be friends." Naruto explained
"HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME? SHE IS THE MONSTER THAT ATTACKED THE VILLAGE AND KILLED YOUR PARENTS! SHE IS THE REASON YOU WERE CHASED AND BEATEN EVERY YEAR ON YOUR BIRTHDAY! SHE IS THE REASON THE WHOLE VILLAGE HATES YOU! How could you choose her over me?" Kurenai demanded openly sobbing. "YOU BASTARD! I HOPE YOU ROT IN HELL WITH YOUR MATE!" Kurenai spit with venom in her voice. She then threw a single hiraishin kunai at him and ran off into the forest.
The kunai flew over Naruto's head and buried itself into the tree behind him. He walked over to the tree and retrieved the kunai then fell to his knees started weeping. Not for himself, he deserved everything she had said and done. He wept out of shame, he wept because she had given him complete trust and he took it for granted, he wept because he had betrayed his closest human friend, and most of all, he wept for all the pain he had caused her, the one who showed him what it was to be loved when no one else did, she had risked everything for him, and he used that same love to cause her pain.
After a while, he sensed Anko approaching quickly so he stood up and composed himself the best he could. Suddenly, he heard a voice coming from everywhere at once, it was her. "You bastard! How could you do this to her?" he then saw a shuriken flying at him, but he made no attempt to dodge it. The spinning blade went right over his head giving him a haircut and nicking his scalp. "She trusted you, and you betrayed her." Naruto saw another glint through the trees. This time a red hot kunai grazed his left shoulder. He winced but otherwise did nothing. Anko finally stepped out from shadows of the tree line. "I won't kill you now, but I will make your training Hell on Earth." She threatened before walking away.
End flashback"I deserved everything both you and Anko said and did. I was wrong to keep my relationship with Narumi a secret from you." Naruto consoled
"No, you didn't deserve how I treated you. No matter how angry or hurt I was, I should never have thrown that Kunai at you. Is your offer of friendship still open?" Kurenai asked
"Always, you could never do anything that would make me deny you friendship. I only hope I can regain your trust over time and that a relationship is not impossible in our future." Naruto responded
"I'm not ready for that yet, I'm not sure I will ever be willing to share you with someone else." Kurenai replied, "We should get going, the others are waiting for us."
When they entered the clearing Narumi gave Naruto a smile of knowing approval. Kurenai walked up next to Kakashi while Naruto took his place next to Narumi.
Minato stepped forward in front of the rest of the teachers. "You have all made tremendous progress with your chakra natures, so we will take a break from that and work on something more defensive. Today we will work on breaking genjutsu. When you use a genjutsu, you create an illusion by manipulating the flow of chakra in your opponent's brain. Therefore, to counter this effect, you must disrupt this new flow and allow the chakra to return to its normal flow. To do this, you or a teammate must create a chakra pulse. Today we will work on breaking the genjutsu yourself. You will pair up, and one of you will cast a genjutsu, the other will attempt to break it, all genjutsu are permitted. Sasuke, you will work with Narumi, Aloasa, you are with Ami, Hinata, you are with Sakura, Naruto, you are with Kakashi." With this, the group broke into their groups.
"All Jutsu are permitted Sasuke, but you are responsible for anything she does, and if you hurt her, both of us can use genjutsu-like demon arts the nicest of which is a hundred times worse than anything the Sharingan can inflict." Naruto threatened
"You first," Narumi told Sasuke with a grin
Naruto turned to Kakashi and prepared for the worst. "I have to use the Sharingan because that is the only thing that would affect you." When he finished saying this, he uncovered his left eye revealing a Sharingan and Naruto's vision went black.
In GenjutsuWhen he opened his eyes he was standing on a platform in front of the whole village, his parents were standing on his left and Narumi on his right. He wondered who the five children next to her were until he noticed a mix of fox and dragon tails peeking out from under their Kimonos. He was with his family, but why was he on this platform to begin with? His father turned to him and said: "Congratulations son, you achieved your dream, I always knew you could do it." He looked down and realized that he was wearing the garb of the Hokage. So this was his dream, he was becoming Hokage.
Naruto looked out on the crowd, they were waiting for him to say something. He thought for a second about what he was going to say, but before he could, he felt a fiery rage boil up from deep inside himself. His skin turned to scales and a hundred tail sprouted from his tailbone. His hands and feet warped into claws and his face stretched into a muzzle, and his whole body grew larger. The platform collapsed under his weight and his neck stretched to its draconic length.
Without conscious thought, Naruto summoned fire from deep within himself and spewed it into the crowd. The people began scrambling and screaming, and to his horror, he loved it was like music from the finest flute. He parted his jaws to unleash another fiery blast but before he could, one of Narumi's furry tails wrapped around his maw and slammed it shut causing the fireball to explode sending fire down his throat and into his stomach.
With a burst of strength, he forced his jaw open and snapped it down on the tail which had been holding it cutting it cleanly. Under all the fur, the small amount of flesh and meat there was delicious and tender. He turned to face her, and he slashed at her with crimson claws. The blow connected. His claws dug in deep, and she was sent flying. He allowed her no time to recover. He formed another fireball, but he infused this one with demonic youki. She managed to get out of the way of the main fireball just in time, but she was caught in the explosion. She then launched her own biijudama at him and scored a direct hit. When the smoke cleared, Naruto stood dazed but otherwise unharmed. He shook his head, and he was on her instantly, he lunged for her throat. The metallic taste of her hot blood flooded his mouth, and he felt a surge of energy from within, she struggled for a few seconds and then went limp.
He opened his jaw, and her body fell limply to the ground then after a few seconds he tore into her corpse. Her flesh was sweet and succulent with a slight spice. He turned to face the crowd his maw dripping with her blood but was instead confronted with the village shinobi with his parents at the head. They all started forming different hand seals, so Naruto unleashed a torrent of fire onto them. The shinobi scattered but a few got caught in the blast, when the smoke cleared, even their bones were reduced to ashes. He quickly performed a complex series of movements with his tails then let out a mighty roar. All the shinobi froze he walked around and slashed, burned and ate them one by one then his vision went black.
The next thing he knew, he was standing in a graveyard, he read the names on the black granite slab in front of him. Minato Namikaze, Kushina Uzumaki, Uzumaki-Namikaze Kibo Uzumaki-Namikaze, Heiwa Uzumaki-Namikaze, Yorokobi Uzumaki-Namikaze, Ai Uzumaki-Namikaze, Tsuyo Uzumaki-Namikaze, Kakashi Hatake, Ami Miyamoto, Sasuke Uchiha, Sakura Haruno, Hinata Hyuuga, Aloasa Nakagawa, Anko Mitarashi, Kurenai Yuhi, Hiruzen Sarutobi along with hundreds of other names. His heart dropped when he realized that next to each name was only a single date. Dreading what he would see he looked at the inscription at the top, it read, "Victims of the Hyakubi No Doragon attack- May we never forget those who gave their lives in defense of the village." He dared to hope when he noticed a notable exception. He entered a meditative state entering his mindscape. Everything was as he remembered, he ran to the clearing and threw open the door of the house, Narumi was nowhere to be found. He noticed that the seal to the outside was gone. He expected the worst but this hope of his was a stubborn hope, it whispered that she might have survived and broken the seal or somebody might have used the key to let her out. He quickly left his mindscape and turned toward the village. What he saw made his heart both jump into his throat and fall into the pit of his stomach at the same time; it was a full-scale statue of Narumi, accurate down to every last detail. He ran to the front of the statue and read the inscription, the last of his hope died. It read "Here lies Narumi Uzumaki-Namikaze. She gave her life for a village which never deserved her without question giving the shinobi a chance to fight." He had killed everyone close to him. He began to weep, the tears burned his cheeks like boiling acid, and they left crevices through his face in their wake. He dropped all his weapons in front of Narumi's grave and ran toward town.
When he entered the town square he yelled for all the village to hear, "Come, kill me! You always wanted to when I was a child and now is your chance to do so without repercussions." The villagers gathered around the edge of the square, but none moved to attack him. "Come on! You attacked me and hated me when I had done nothing to you, under pain of death if you were caught, but now, that I am clearly the one who caused you this pain and you will have no punishment for killing me, you refuse to lay a finger on me." The citizens around the square just stood trembling "Fine, if you won't kill me I'll do it myself." Naruto began forming a giant ball of chakra and youki he poured all of his reserves into a single compact ball then fired it into the sky he changed to hanyou form and flew after the energy ball as fast as he could. He climbed faster and faster, higher and higher, he had almost caught up to the ball when the air began to thin. It got hard to breathe, and his vision exploded with spots. The air got cold, and his vision went gray, then black.
When Naruto opened his eyes again, Narumi was standing in front of him in her full sized demon form. "You selfish bastard!" she yelled with tears in her eyes "You took away my chance to have a normal, human life, everyone whose trust I worked so hard to gain, gone! I hate you! I never wan-" before she could finish, Naruto remembered what his father had said and willed all his chakra and youki to stop and the image dissipated to bright white.
In clearingNaruto's eyes adjusted back to the normal lighting and realized that he was the first to break his genjutsu. "Never make me go through that again." He said to his mentors in a pleading tone. Kakashi just sat in shock at the horror of Naruto's vision.
Minato looked up in surprise "You already broke the Sharingan?"
"Of course I have, I am Naruto Uzumaki-Namikaze, Nii-juubi-no-Doragon, Sage of the dragons, of course I broke the Sharingan, it was nothing," Naruto replied arrogantly, but he could not hide the horror of his visions from the people who knew him so well.
"Naruto, you may be all those things, but you are also human, or at least half human, and how you reacted after breaking the Sharingan tells me it wasn't nothing. Whatever you saw, it was pretty bad, and you're not getting out of here till you tell us what happened." Minato replied, "I may be your sensei, but I am also your father, and that look on your face worries me."
"It was the worst thing I could imagine happening." Naruto began slowly "In the beginning it was great. I was married to Narumi, we had kids together, you had stepped down as Hokage, and I had been elected as your replacement. I was about to make an announcement to the village, and we were all on a platform together. That is where the good part ended. Suddenly I felt angry, not just normal anger, a burning rage such as I have never felt before. I felt myself changing to my full demonic form, but instead of my normal twenty tails, I had one hundred. I began to attack the crowd then Narumi tried to stop me. I tried to stop myself but I couldn't. I killed her, and I enjoyed it. I enjoyed the taste of her blood in my mouth, its crimson color, and smell, the sound of her gurgling and gasping for air, the feeling of her struggling to get away slowly getting weaker as I held her and eventually going limp in my grip. When I released her, I turned around, and all the ninja of Konoha were in formation with both you and Mom in the lead. I slaughtered all of you, I enjoyed the sound of the screams as I burned people alive, the smell of their burning flesh, the sight of them cowering before my might, the taste of their flesh as I ate them. They were powerless before me. My vision went black and the next thing I knew, I was standing in front of all your graves, I had killed my mate, my parents, my children, and my friends. I had nothing left. I begged the villagers to kill me, but they were too scared. So I flew so high that I passed out and died When I hit the ground. When I woke up from regeneration, Narumi was there, she accused me of taking her chance at a normal life. That is when I broke it."
"That is what my Sharingan does, it shows you your worst fear," Kakashi replied quietly still himself recovering from the vision.
One by one the others broke their genjutsu then used a genjutsu on their partners who broke the genjutsu in their own time. All except Narumi. Once everyone from the second group had broken their genjutsu, all eyes turned to Sasuke and Narumi. The latter was still locked in the former's Sharingan.
"Enough Sasuke. Release the Jutsu," Kushina ordered, "She obviously is unable to break it."
"No, this demon is going to pay for all the pain she caused," Sasuke replied defiantly
"Sasuke, release it unless you way a rampaging demon to attack Konoha again, her mind is about to break," Naruto warned, "If you don't release her I will."
"Impossible, the Sharingan is unbreakable." Sasuke challenged
Naruto then proceeded to walk over to Narumi, and he placed his hand on her shoulder then fed her a large pulse of purified youki instantly breaking the illusion. Narumi collapsed in a sobbing heap. Naruto then turned to a shocked Sasuke.
"Since Narumi is unable to use a genjutsu on you, you get me. If you try to perform this Jutsu, the chakra exhaustion will kill you. Fueled by youki, it takes a tail, chakra it takes two. To give that perspective, Rasengan takes one hundredth of a tail of chakra if that." Naruto warned before running through a long sequence of hand signs, many of which Sasuke and Kakashi did not recognize. When Naruto finished his hand seals, he announced "Thirteen Gates of Hell, first gate." Immediately the genjutsu on Narumi broke. Sasuke's eyes when wide and his body stiffened
"What is happening?" Kushina asked in a worried tone
"I gave him a window into hell, he is an outside observer," Naruto answered flatly "Don't worry, I know exactly how much he can take." Naruto waited a few seconds
Instantly, Sasuke fell into a fetal position
"Don't ever endanger my family like that again." Naruto threatened in a menacing tone
"Who besides Sasuke was ever in danger?" Sakura asked in a slightly hostile manner
"My mate's mind was about to snap, just look at her, you don't need my threshold sensory to see that," Naruto responded
The group looked over at Narumi. She was pale and sweating, her eyes were distant, and she was shaking slightly. "I stopped him in time to prevent a complete break, which would probably have resulted in a rampage, but he caused severe damage. Either way, she needs to go into the seal which will be a tremendous physical stress on both of us but she will recover faster there, and damage that would otherwise be permanent may hopefully be reversed."
Narumi slowly nodded in agreement before disappearing with a poof then Naruto sat down in a meditative position "Be ready for anything," he told his sensei before delving into his mindscape.
In Naruto's MindscapeTo Naruto, it seemed that it was darker than usual and no matter what he did, he could not make it brighter. Naruto walked down the path towards Narumi's house. The air felt cold and oppressive. As he approached the field where Narumi's house was the darkness seemed to get closer and closer. When he arrived at his destination what he saw horrified him.
Narumi was backed up against the door of her house battling with a jet-black nine-tailed fox three times her size. The larger fox would swipe at her with his giant paw or lunge at her, and she would nimbly dodge being careful to keep herself between it and the door. Naruto then watched in horror as the black fox's paw struck home leaving a gash in Narumi's chest and swept her aside. She threw herself at the creature once more putting herself between it and the door. Naruto began sprinting across the field with a brace of three kunai in his left hand and four shuriken in his right ready to throw. When he was half way across the field, he sent both flying straight toward the shadow. Right before the projectiles hit Naruto flashed through a series of hand seals and each weapon split into 20 identical clones then slammed into the monster full force. The beast roared in pain then turned to face Naruto who was now quickly forming a Rasengan. The creature snarled and charged. The young shinobi jumped up and slammed the ball of chakra into the monster's chest causing it to dissipate into smoke. When it did his mindscape lightened to its normal brightness. Once he landed Naruto ran over to Narumi who had collapsed from exhaustion. The fur on her chest was thickly matted with blood from the shadow's slashes Naruto slowly fed purified youki into the wound till the bleeding stopped, and Narumi regained consciousness.
"What was that thing? Naruto asked once Narumi was sitting up.
"That was my darkness. If he were to get out, I would go on a rampage, and you would probably have to kill me," Narumi answered.
"If you're a girl and that thing is you, how is it male?" Naruto asked puzzled.
"Essentially he is the exact mirror image of me. Because I am good, he is evil. Because I am female, he is male. Because I am compassionate, he is cruel. Because I love you, he hates you. The only exception is his coloring. He is so corrupted that his fur which should be blue is inky black," Narumi explained. "Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take a nap. Unless the village is in imminent danger and you can't handle it, don't wake me up."
At the training groundNaruto opened his eyes and immediately spotted his target. Sasuke was on the other side of the practice area sparring with Aloasa. Naruto silently stood and changed into his hanyou form. His skin changed to scales, and his tails grew from his tailbone as he slowly and silently stalked toward Sasuke. When he reached him, a single tail shot out and grabbed the Uchiha and spun him to face Naruto. As Naruto grabbed him the color drained from Sasuke's face. The rest of the squad gathered around the pair watching the sensei ready to intervene if necessary.
"Do you have any idea how close you were to causing a disaster?" Naruto screamed.
"So what if the monster became a vegetable, the world would be safer," Sasuke spat.
"No, you idiot. A couple more seconds of your torture and she would have gone on a rampage that would have made the attack sixteen years ago look like a genin prank." As Naruto spoke Sasuke's already pale face got even whiter. When he was finished speaking Naruto turned and threw the boy to the ground behind him as he walked away.
"You're so tough with your tails and your demon arts, but I bet you wouldn't last ten seconds in a taijutsu fight." Sasuke challenged
"Um, Sasuke, that's not a good idea," Hinata said just loud enough to hear.
"Listen to Hinata Sasuke. That fight would not end well for you," Naruto said as he walked away. Naruto then heard a whistling sound as a kunai flew past his ear and he came to a dead stop. His tails shrunk and his scales turned back to skin. "You want a fight? I'll give you a fight." The pair dropped into fighting stances, and Naruto calmly said: "One."
Sasuke made the first move. He charged Naruto with his fist back then struck out at the blond shinobi's face. At the last moment, Naruto stepped to the side, grabbed Sasuke's wrist, and pulled him past him. "Two." Sasuke quickly recovered his balance and turned to face Naruto. "Three." Sasuke pulled out a kunai and charged again. This time Naruto grabbed the wrist of the hand holding the kunai and twisted it, so his palm was towards his face then he continued to twist till Sasuke fell to the ground. Naruto kneeled on his chest and pointed the kunai, still in his hand, at his throat. "Four. So, who wouldn't last ten seconds? By my count you didn't even last five," Naruto said smugly before standing and offering Sasuke a hand up. "Before you pick a fight, make sure your opponent isn't a master in that type of combat." Sasuke grimaced but took hold of Naruto's hand. "Let's call a truce, you don't Insult my girlfriend or me, and I don't destroy you."
"Fine," Sasuke said as he turned he head and offered his hand for Naruto to shake.
"Good, now that that's settled, get back to work you two," Minato instructed as Naruto shook Sasuke's hand.
AND DONE! Finally! I had to restart this chapter three or four times because I would have to reset my computer or my computer completely died. Sorry, it took so long to get this out, but I am hoping to get chapters out more regularly and more frequently from now on.
