Commander in Chief

Chapter 13

The Citadel

April 2185

Master Chief – Sierra 117
Normandy Airlock

"That's a fucking AI!?" Tali shouted as she reached behind her for her shotgun and pulled it out and pointed it at Wenrum, who was already getting ready for attack, pulling out his gravity hammer from his back, in a combat stance reading for the attack.

"Woah, calm down!" I shout. Pulling my blade out from its sheath. Putting it blade down, reading for a counter attack.

"I will not calm down until this is destroyed!" She shouted back and fired at Wenrum, making his blue shield flicker as he rushes as the door opens and sends the two flying back into the docking tunnel. Wenrum coming out on top and was holding her by the neck with his human like hands, with his hammer not to far away. Her shouted at Tali, this time with more ferocity of the Knight, with his face of green turning out to be on fire with the same colour. The light reflecting off her faceplate, showing her features, her face being strained and the glow of her eyes fading and she was losing consciousness. I ran up next to Wenrum and gave him an order

"Put her down, she will not harm you." I said, hoping he would see reason, this made matters worse at he hit me with the Hammer, making me fly back down the tunnel, crashing into Garrus. I got my shit straight again and this time charged him, knocking him off his feet and letting Tali go in the process. "Stand down, or I will have to kill you, this is your last warning." I said and held him down until he stopped his moving and then let him go, he released his watcher to launch him back to his feet. I next walk over to Tali, as well as Shepard following me and running down the tunnel, kneeling next to her. I just crouch next to her. "Cortana, get my scanner up on my Tool please." The tool went blue as it sprung to life as a blue scanner went across Tali body and came back negative with any medical issue that need to be attended straight away, just shock and some breathing problems after being almost choked by a machine.

"Are you ok Tali?" Shepard said as he lifted he chest from the ground, getting her to sit, her eyes shone through her visor again and immediately looked at the person next to me, Wenrum, but she didn't go any further as she just got up of the floor and placed her shotgun on her back, obviously wanting to not provoke him again.

"Yeah, I'm fine, just worried about it, will it attack me again?"

"Only if you point that weapon at me again. Quarian." He growled back at her, Tali not understanding what he had just said.

I played along as translator. "He says only if you point that weapon at him again."

"Does he have a name; you said that he can think for himself." Shepard asked as he made sure that nothing was wrong with Tali as well.

"His name is Wenrum, EDI said it was some sort of Salarian word for white Knight, so it fit him well."

"Seems well, but, you know, try and keep your issue on the down low while we are on the Citadel, if they find out that you are an AI, they will melt you down for something else." Wenrum nodded and his watcher went back into his back and he put the hammer back on his back. "Did you know about this Garrus? You seem to be quiet when you said something."

"No, it was nothing important." He replied before heading out of the airlock and down the tunnel."

"Huh, my ass. Chief, lets get moving before these two start a riot again." He says as he walks down the tunnel, following Garrus as did Tali. I followed suit and Wenrum followed me as well, towards the end. As we walked out, I saw the many species that I was reading over in the Codex's, all being peaceful on the station. How? How were so many being this peaceful without anyone going against each other. As I walked with Shepard, I was thrown a couple of stare my way as per usual of someone of my statue, being tall and in armour and all. Shepard was just in his normal clothes. I walked along and we reached a long corridor and as we stepped in it, a orange beam washed over all of us, scanning us.

The Security guard looked at me and Wenrum before talking to the Commander. "Err, Shepard, these two are not coming up on the sensors and one of them isn't even organic if I'm correct, care to explain yourself?"

"He." Shepard pointed at me, "Is someone you don't want to be messing with, he can take me down before I even realise it, by the way Spectre business. On the other hand, this fellow can beat him in a hand-to-hand combat, so you have two reasons to let us through, anyway, you don't want to make me miss my meeting with the council." He challenged and the Guard tapped away ay his keypad thing and the door's lock went from red to green as Tali, Garrus and Shepard passed through.

"Don't be causing any trouble, because I don't care who you are, we will bring you to justice if you cause any." He said, trying to intimidate me, not working of course. I step up to him, making myself taller then him.

"That's only if you can." I say as I follow Wenrum through the door which leads to an open room with a few other open spaces that were taken up by shops and other goods. I see Shepard and the crew moving on and we follow suit, getting ourselves into an elevator, Shepard pressing it to go up to the Citadel Tower.

"So, anybody want to talk about their past?" Garrus said as we waited for the elevator to reach it's destination.

Tali was the first one to reply. "Garrus, Shotgun. Remember that."

"Aww, come on, You Chief?" All I do to show my annoyance to him is that I un sheath my energy dagger from my wrist and then show them to him, he immediately stopped what he was thinking of. "Ok, then, Wenrum, anything to growl about?"

"Please, don't anger him anymore Garrus" I heard Cortana say in my helmet, sighing at his attitude to the situation.

He opened and closed his flaps and then said something along the lines of 'You will die if you keep asking that Turian' But all that Garrus heard was the growling, which still put him off.

"Okay then, I dictate that everyone is insecure about there past." The elevator came to a stop, and mercifully opened its door to the next area of the Citadel, the Citadel Tower and where Cortana said we would meet the Council. Shepard walks ahead as everyone falls in behind as we all asend the steps towards where Shepard was going, when we reached the top, I saw three people standing up on a separate platform to us as we walked down a very skinny one that at the end had a terminal of some sorts. The first thing I herd was a sentence that came from the person on the left of the platform, A Turian.

"Shepard, what the hell have you brought up here." He pointed in the general direction of me and Wenrum, not knowing which one is more formidable or worrying I suppose. Shepard just looked at us and then at the Turian.

"Which one Councillor, the armoured behemoth or the robot?" He asked "Both of them are scary if you ask me." He added.

"The one in green." Oh this does not make things any better.

"That's not helping me see which one Councillor."

"The one that is glowing green. What is it?" He questioned.

"That is Wenrum, the big guy's friend of an AI." What?! Did he just mention AI in front of the Council, won't this just make matter worse? My question was answered as a hail of bullets came down on me and Wenrum, being deflected quite easily but still taking down part of my shields. Wenrum didn't care as he made himself into a ball and teleported of somewhere near.

"Did he just become a coward in your book or what?" Cortana asked.

"Yes, yes he did, do you know where he went?" I said as I looked for any cover from the hail of bullets, Shepard and his lot getting into cover as well as we were being fired upon.

"Tracing slipspace rupture, up there, on the balcony. 3 floors up on the right." I acknowledge that statement and look that way, seeing a ball of blue light transform into Wenrum and his glowing body popped in, He was holding something new, something that was protruding three beams at someone… A Binary Rifle! "Chief! He is going to fire on the Turian Councillor, you need to stop him!" She shouted as I pull the object off my back and throw it at the floor, producing a bubble that had hexagons around it, I got up and into it, it made short work on the protection, making me invincible from the fire. I looked at Shepard and nodded, saying that he was okay to join me; he did and walked through the barrier with ease as the fire stopped around me, but Wenrum was still aiming at the Councillor. I open my Comms and boost it to see if I can pick his translator up, it did and I spoke into it. "Stand down, they pose no threat anymore." Wenrum contemplated this as he kept staring at the Councillor before un-scoping and slip-jumping back down and into the bubble, which I promptly picked up and deactivated and placed it back on my back with my other guns.

"Can we have a peaceful diplomatic conference and not shoot us? I just saved you." I pointed at the Turian. "From being disintegrated by a high Power rifle, so be thankful." I said as I got back to where we were standing, back in position as we were. "Can we carry on now, or am I going to have to break everyone who fired on us' necks?" The Councillor's looked in shock at my threat before talking to each other and retuning to there positions.

"I formally apologise for the actions of Councillor Sparatus and his Spectre, we can proceed with the meeting that we had arranged, and we will discuss your involvement later." Thee Asari said, as she finished, a person came up the steps, a dark skinned man that looked at us before moving towards Shepard and shaking his hand.

"Good to see you in one piece Shepard, what I miss? All I heard was bullets and other things pinging off walls." I just looked at him and Shepard returned with a shrug of his shoulders.

"Nothing to be interested in, just Sparatus speaking with bullets to my new crew member before asking about him, just the usual. Good to see you too Anderson, been a long time since I set foot on the Citadel, how you been?"

Anderson just signed and put his hand to his head, wiping off the sweat that had accumulated there. "Politics take a lot of you when you least expect it, they didn't tell me you were coming here at all." He stared at the Councillors behind us. "Even when it concerns a Spectre of my Species!" He raised his voice to get his point along to them.

"Councillor, this was a special matter that only came up yesterday, we could not get your attention as you were out of office yesterday and today." The Salarian replied to his statement. "Now get up here and take your spot on the podium." He added and Anderson followed by leaving the platform that we were on and joining the trio up on their own stand. "Now we can carry on with the meeting as we are all here."

"Yes, Councillor, I have summoned this meeting to discuss what my mission has come up with and the reason for my absence for an extended period of time. The former is more, withstanding evidence on the whereabouts on the reapers-"

"Shepard! This is not a time for your theories again!-" The Turian shouted first, interrupting Shepard in the process.

"Sparatus, do be quiet, he said he had evidence and not a vision in his head that he thought was a dream." The Salarian silenced the raging Turian. "Please, Commander, do carry on."

(A/N: This is where I got to before my Illness, be aware of bad writing for this last part)

"Right, as I was saying, my absence was for me to compile the evidence that I had, and I can give heavy proof that they do exist and that Sovereign was not a Geth construct-" He went on with the details of some ship that had destroyed the station that I was standing on, details that didn't interest me in the slightest, it was just him and The council bickering at each other with this claim and the Council trying to deny everything, politicians, why don't you listen? They are as bad as the ones on the UEG… My boredom got to me as I walked of the pillar to go and do something else that had more importance. Wenrum decided to follow me as I could tell that he had the same idea, he went back to the elevator back in the centre of the hall and was going back to the Normandy, not challenged this time by the guards that were there.

I heard someone follow me down the stairs and when I turned back, I saw the face of Anderson, out of breath trying to catch up to me after I left. "Where do you think you are going?" He asks as I turn to face him.

"Going somewhere where I am useful, not standing around and listen to them bicker about things that I don't understand." I reply as I stand still.

"Well, if you want to become useful, would you like me to fill you in with the details of what has been going on that has Shepard shouting at them?" At that moment, the sound of a shout that was noticeable from Shepard filled the room around me and Anderson.

I though about this for a moment, I was built for war and if I could get information on what was going on and why they were doing what they were doing, I might become useful again, and maybe figure out this whole mess I have gotten myself into. "That would be helpful, where shall we go to be more private, I can tell that some of the info you are about to tell me is not to be heard from the public eye."

"That would be the best idea, my office is the best place that I can think of, he is the key to it." He pulls up his Omni-tool and gives me the 'Key' and the directions to said place. "Here is the place as well, now if you can be there and I will meet you in five minutes, I've just got to get back and stop Shepard from staging a one Human war on the Council." He says with a smile and makes his way back up the stairs and back to where I was previously standing. I turn around and start walking in the direction that my Omni-tool was giving me, then it suddenly disappeared and the direction came up on my visor.

"Thought I could help you with the moving around part, you can get lost too easily."

"Thank you, and I don't get lost, I just find alternate routes to my objects, even if there is an army in my way." I reply as I continue down the hall and reach the door which I hold up my tool and it lights up blue, permanently this time as I use the 'key' to unlock it, the door swishing open and showing me the open office that I walked into and the door resealed back as I reach up and grasp the clip on the back of my head and pull the chip out of my head and place it on the table in front of my, releasing Cortana from the confines of my suit.

"Geez, it was getting stuffy in their, you brain was so boring to keep an eye on, you weren't even paying attention to any of the politician garble were you?" She asks as she open up a diagram of five pointed star that opens up and then closed up to create a bullet-like shape of an object, an impenetrable object. I walk over to the balcony and lean on it, seeing as it took my weight, I look over it and at the place below, a area of peace and tranquillity. Is this what Earth looks like in peace time? Never seen it myself, but not my place to judge, would never fit into a place like this, I'm a solider and that is what I will be till I die. I suddenly se a glowing object in the distance, with people looking at it and taking pictures of it.

"Did Wenrum ever make it back to the Normandy?" I ask, knowing what that was if he didn't.

"His IFF tag says he is no-where near to the ship, why do you ask?" She said as she was looking over schematics of things.

"I can see him right now, and he is causing a stir of the crowd, nothing serious, but it looks like he is looking for something. But oh well, if he gets into trouble, we can go and save him."

"Yes, you can do that…. Huh, that's weird." She says he voice is full of confusion.

I pull myself off the wall and pick up a chair and sit down in it, surprisingly it can take my weight. "What is it?"

"Just this, I pulled it out of the data files on the terminal near you, it has this thing , but has no information on it." She pulls up a model of something that looks like a squid on first impressions, with many legs and a tall body.

"What is it?"

"I have no-idea, the databanks say it is a Geth construct, but when I search that, I come up with something different, Have to ask Anderson about that. When she finishes, I pull off all my weapons on my Back, My Lightrifle and Vanquish and lay them up on the wall, so I could sit properly for once. Me and Cortana kept talking for a bit about the Galaxy around us.

"So, how are you enjoying this slice of the dimension rift or whatever happened?"

"It's Ok." I say honestly. "I still trying to get use to trust all of the species artound us, I'm still worried that one of them is going to stab us in the back and start a war, but other than that, it is better than the War-torn Galaxy we came from. It's just weird that there is no war going on now, just peace, it's going to be hard to get use to it is all, I don't know if my Spartan training will adapt to it anyway."

"Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention, your augmentations have taken a severe impact as we got blown up by the nuke. Something with the Composer's energy and everything, it's rewritten what we were, it explains why I have gone back to normal and I feel like I have just been born, or made in a sense, and the same can be said to you, with a few different aspects, all of the negatives of your genetics have been rewritten to a normal Human, like – " She was interrupted as my eyes shoot to the disturbance as I hear the door ping as the lock changes from orange to green and opens to reveal an old, white man who is wearing some cream clothing, his face showing severe anger and annoyance, and it showed in his voice.

"Who are you and what business do you have with the councillor?!" His voice started. "And what is that?" (That question was the hot topic for today.) He said as he pointed at Cortana.

When will I ever get some peace and quiet without someone threatening me?

"Yes my minions!, we shall bring this machine back to it's former glory and make that demon pay for what he did to my machine with that blasted nuclear device." The entity said as he watched over his minions that were rebuilding his craft for his next plan for this place. "We will find out where he has gone and destroy anything in our path!" He said as the core of his ship powered up and glowed a bright red with the death staring him in the face. The armour around him shifted as he showed his face in all of its glory.
