I wanted to tell you last chapter, but I forgot, so I'll tell you in this chapter. Ana/Kate are in the process of becoming editors. I have NO idea on how to write editorial work or the facts/details surrounding it. My beta doesn't know much about it, either. Therefore, if any details are wrong, please consider it AU/AH and concentrate on the story. I will do the best I can writing it correctly, but chances are I'll write it wrong. I'm sure that some of my readers know more about it than I do and that's fine. Just please bear with me on it. For all I know, I'm writing stuff about Editorial work completely wrong. Hopefully, between me and my beta, we'll do it right. Hehe. My plan is to stay 5 chapters ahead in this story in case I need to make any changes with each one. So, updates will probably take a while. I assure you that I won't give up on this story, even though some of you may think otherwise. As of right now, I'm going to try update every 3 weeks, but it may happen where it's updated once a month if I fall behind on my writing (incase things get super busy at work). Thank you for those to take the time to review/follow/favorite. I enjoy reading your thoughts. So, if you have a minute, reviews are encouraged. Some chapters will be longer/shorter than others. It just depends on how far I get with my notes on each update. I don't own FSOG.
Title: FSOG: From Heartbreak to Happiness?
Summary: Ana and Christian both suffered heartbreak from their last relationship with other people. Christian from his first attempt at one and Ana after getting cheated on. Once they meet, it's obvious there's a spark. But the question is, can they conquer their fears of getting hurt again?
Chapter 13
***Grey Enterprises***
(Ana is sitting on the edge of her seat in a panic. The wait was killing her! Did she get the job? Or will Christian politely tell her that she's not a good fit for the position? She was almost tempted to interrupt things and ask him. She knew better, though. She held her tongue as her possible new boss speaks)
Christian: (smiles & nods) "You got the job. Welcome to Grey Enterprises. You are officially my new Editor for 'Grey Magazine'."
Ana: (smiles happily) "Thank you, Mr. Grey. It is greatly appreciated." (nods) "Thank you for the opportunity."
Christian: (chuckles) "I know you won't disappoint. Congratulations and I hope that you'll enjoy it here."
Ana: "I know I will, sir. I have wanted to work for you for awhile."
(After they both stand up, they shake hands. Ana thanks him again before retrieving her purse and walks out of his office. Christian rests his hands in the pockets of his suit and faces the door)
Christian: (smiles) "Welcome aboard, Miss Steele. I'm glad that you accepted the position. You may have seemed a bit nervous, but I know that you will do well." (tilts his head) "You looked so beautiful in your blue satin business suit. Your hair was so flawless against your shoulders."
(Christian sighs softly as he briefly closes his eyes. He moves his head a bit as he thinks aloud)
Christian: "Those lips of yours. Those red plump luscious lips were perfect." (moans a bit) "Oh, I so badly wanted to kiss them. Taste your sweet strawberry flavored lip gloss scent and then leave the entire inside of your mouth untouched."
(He shakes his head in horror at such thoughts! He swallows loudly and briefly wipes his face with his hands)
Christian: "What the hell am I doing? I-I can't...I can't be thinking these thoughts. It's wrong. It's wrong on so many levels. I made a promise to myself that I wouldn't get involved with anyone again. I can't put myself through that." (sighs) "No matter how much I want to." (shakes his head) "You hurt me so fucking bad, Elena. I don't even think you realize how much." (serious tone) "I don't care what I have to do. I'm NOT going down that road again with anyone. Not even you, Anastasia Steele. I may be falling for you, but I will keep things strictly professional. That's how it needs to be."
(Christian goes to his desk and sits down. He needed to get his mind off everything and focus on work. He sits up and faces forward and gets down to business)
(Meanwhile, Ana goes back to the apartment she shares with Kate. She unlocks the front door and opens it, starts talking as she locks the door behind her)
Ana: "Kate! I have some great news! Are you here?"
(After Ana sets down her keys on the little table next to the front door, she faces the living room. She is caught off-guard to see Kate in a panic. Ana doesn't know what to think. Ana walks to her friend with concern)
Ana: "Kate, what's wrong?"
Kate: (stutters) "What-What the fuck are we going to do, Ana?"
(Ana attempts to calm Kate's fears by placing her hands on Kate's shoulders)
Ana: "Okay, take a breath." (nods) "Take a breath. Tell me what happened."
Kate: "He knows, Ana. I-I don't know how the hell he knows. I-I thought we hid it so well."
(Ana leads Kate to the couch and they sit down. She takes Kate's hands in hers and speaks)
Ana: "Start from the beginning."
(Kate nods and sighs deeply as she attempts to calm herself)
Kate: "While you were at Christian's office to see if you got the job, Jose showed up."
Ana: (odd look) "What the hell did he want?"
Kate: "He said he knew my secret. I didn't know what the hell he was talking about. He said he knows that I killed my stepfather when I was 16 years old. Ana, I swear, I don't know how the hell he found out."
Ana: (eyes widen) "We were so careful that night. We covered everything up."
Kate: (nods quickly) "I thought so, too. I called his bluff and he tried to goad me, saying that you told him everything. I know that was a lie, though."
Ana: "You're right. It is. I would never betray you like that." (exhales sharply) "Fuck, we haven't spoken of that night in
years."
Kate: (nods) "I know. I honestly thought it was behind us, Ana."
Ana: "Did Jose say how he knew?"
Kate: "Just that his 'friend' has proof. I asked him what friend, but he wouldn't tell me."
Ana: "The only thing I can think of is, Jose has a private investigator of some kind or a friend on the police force." (shakes
her head in confusion) "This just doesn't make any sense. What the hell is Jose playing at here?"
Kate: (snorts) "Unless he paid them." (sighs) "I don't know what to think. I demanded this so called proof he has. He said he would have it by tomorrow afternoon."
Ana: (nods) "Okay. I'll be there with you when you meet with José."
Kate: (sighs in defeat) "Ana, I'm so sorry that you're involved in this mess. This has nothing to do with you."
Ana: (serious tone) "Don't be sorry, Kate. If I didn't want to be involved when the incident happened, I wouldn't have. I could have walked away. I chose to stay by your side in this. You didn't deserve to put up with what your stepfather tried to do."
Kate: (tearfully) "I-I still can't believe what he tried to do. What kind of person does that to a teenager?"
Ana: "He was a sick fuck who deserved what he got. No one deserves to be assaulted. He didn't rape you, but he almost did." (scoffs) "I still can't believe your own mother didn't know what was going on. You were all under the same roof, for Christ sake!"
Kate: (chuckles dryly) "I guess he found a way to hide it well."
Ana: "You had no choice, but to defend yourself, I'm proud of you."
Kate: (eyes widen) "Oh, yeah. I defended myself alright. I killed the son of a bitch."
Ana: "Your mom was out of town, so she wasn't at home or near the area when it happened."
Kate: (shakes her head) "I'm not sure that she would've believed me, anyway. The son of a bitch hid his secret that well."
Ana: "In the end, it was ruled a burglary as you and I got out of there before the cops came. Being your stepfather was considered a loyal member of the community that could do no wrong. I still believe that the police would have believed him and not us. You and I weren't troublemakers at all, but there are some people who just don't give a damn."
Kate: (shakes her head sadly) "I hated, absolutely hated lying to my mom when she found out he died. Ana, she doesn't know what really happened that night. All she knows is what the police told her. That a burglar must've tried to break in and he defended himself." (chuckles dryly) "I'm surprised that we were able to clean up our part in it." (nervously) "Ana, his death may have been ruled an accident, but if my mom ever found out the truth..."
Ana: (shakes her head) "She won't."
Kate: "Jose knows, though. If he leaks what really happened to anyone, especially my mom..."
Ana: "First, we'll see what he really knows and look at his proof. Then, we'll go from there."
Kate: (cries) "I will always feel horrible that you're involved."
Ana: "Kate, we decided a long time ago that I wasn't going to let you go through this alone." (smiles) "I know that you would've done the same for me."
Kate: (nods) "In a heartbeat."
Ana: (confused) "I wonder who José's accomplice could be?"
Kate: (raises her eyebrows) "I don't know. I'll tell you one thing, Steele. When we do find out, all bets are off."
***Hours Later***
(Christian has his hands in his suit pockets as he admires the view. He has lost count on how many times he looked at it. Whether it's dozens of times a day or a week. For him it's a way of escaping. Sometimes, he needs to escape the world as it tends to be stressful. The different sites out the window is mesmerizing. His floor was high enough to where you had a great view of the sky. That's one of the many things he loved about his office. To escape whatever demons he had for a bit, he forgot about life and just stared)
(He didn't hear the knock on his door. The person opened the door and closed it behind them. After smiling for a few moments, they spoke)
Female: "You always did like escaping life when it got to be too stressful."
(Christian sighs deeply and rolls his eyes as he knew that voice anywhere)
Christian: (exasperated) "What the hell do you want, Elena?"
(Elena walks to him until they are face to face by the window. She stares at him in the eyes)
Elena: "We need to talk."
(She attempts to touch his face with her hand, but he roughly rebuffs her. He forces her hands down and speaks angrily)
Christian: "We have nothing to talk about. Get the fuck out."
(As he is about to walk past her, she gently takes his hand in hers. She tilts her head and looks at him with pleading eyes)
Elena: "You know we do, Christian. You know why I'm here. We need to get things out in the open."
Chapter 13 Done
Please be kind and review. They fuel my inspiration to continue to write. BTW, in the chapter or two, this story will be changed to M rating due to mature sexual situations. So, if by chance, I forget to warn you later, please keep a look out for this story in the M section. Thank you.
