INT: HOSPITAL/ CALIFORNIA – TUESDAY NIGHT
Ricky sat in a faded yellow chair inside the hospital room, continuously rocking back and forth, feeling as if it was nearly impossible to calm himself.
Amy was lying beside him in a hospital bed, trying to rest as much as possible in between contractions.
She still had a way to go before she would be ready to deliver the baby. The doctor measured her at only two centimeters when they arrived, and her contractions were still separated by at least fifteen minutes. They had only arrived an hour earlier, and the doctor advised them that the wait could be a while.
Ricky was filled with anxiety, and he just couldn't seem to rid his nervousness. He was going to be a dad again and the feeling was just overwhelming.
He loved John more than anything, but this part, the delivery; he wasn't very involved in when his son was born. He regretted that, especially now. Not to mention that Amy practically despised him during her labor with John.
But things were completely different this time. He was her support, and he was now going to witness the birth of his second child and he just couldn't believe he was even in that place in his life.
He watched Amy as she lay quietly with her eyes closed, and he just couldn't believe how far they had come together.
After all they had been through and all the ups and downs in the last eight years, he just couldn't believe that she was his wife now, and they were actually welcoming their second child into this world together.
The feeling was intense.
Who would have ever thought they'd make it this far after having a one night escapade at band camp, at only fifteen and sixteen years old?
The thought of how much they have evolved together as a couple just became completely overwhelming, and Ricky found himself fighting back tears as the memories began flooding back in to his thoughts…
**Flashbacks of how it all began**
('You're Still the One' by Shania Twain begins playing.)
…Looks like we made it, look how far we've come my baby…
Band camp.
Ricky waves at Amy from the bleachers, and she causes the band to stumble as she smiles back at him.
…We might'a took the long way; we knew we'd get there someday…
Ricky: Hi.
Amy: Hi
Ricky: Are you Amy?
…
Ricky: I'm Ricky; someone told me you're going to Grant in the fall…Mind if I sit down?
…
Ricky: C'mon, a girl as pretty as you doesn't have a boyfriend?
…They said, 'I bet, they'll never make it', but just look at us holding on…
Ricky: I'm not exactly boyfriend material, but maybe we could do something tonight?
…
Amy: My lips are a little dry.
They kiss for the first time.
…We're still together still going strong…
Ricky - You're really pretty, you know that?
…You're still the one…You're still the one I run to…
The day John was born.
Amy - Hi Ricky, it's me, Amy. The baby's coming, I think you should be here, he's your son.
…the one that I belong to, you're still the one I want for life…
Ricky talking to Ashley in the waiting room
Ricky- I promise, I'm gonna help with the baby…do you know what she's gonna name him?
…you're still the one. You're still the one that I love…
Ricky: Ashley, please be nice to me. Every single person that comes to see Amy today, is probably gonna hate me.
…the only one I dream of. You're still the one I kiss good night…
Ricky talking to Ben in the waiting room.
Ricky: I just feel so guilty… I can't believe I did this...I don't deserve to have a baby with a girl that's so nice, with Amy… I don't know if I can do it.
…Ain't nothing better. We beat the odds together…
Ricky walks into the hospital room and see's John for the first time.
Amy looks up him and smiles.
…I'm glad we didn't listen, look at what we would be missing…
In Amy's Bedroom.
He picks his son up from the bassinet.
Ricky: Hi John. Daddy's here. I love you.
…they said, 'I bet they'll never make it', but just look at us holding on…
Amy's Bedroom, before leaving for New York.
Amy: Please?
Ricky: Okay Amy, if it means that much to you…
Amy: Thank You, Thank you, Thank you! I love you!
…We're still together still going strong…
Amy's Kitchen.
Amy: …and us…
Ricky: So you're acknowledging that there is an 'us'?
Ricky brushes Amy's hair out of her face.
…You're still the one, you're still the one I run to, the one that I belong to…
New York.
Ricky: It's really good to see you Amy.
Amy: You too Ricky, You Too
They kiss passionately.
…You're still the one I want for life. You're still the one; you're still the one that I love…
Ricky and Amy are sitting on the couch, in New York
Ricky: So you're saying that one day, you'd like to have more children?
…
Ricky: What do you want us to be?
…The only one I dream of. You're still the one I kiss good night …
Amy and Ricky are in Amy's parent's living room.
Amy: This is about us. I want this summer to be our time to get to know each other.
…
Amy: I want that…while were going out, and talking and getting to know each other, and falling in love; I want to graduate high school, and I want to graduate college, and I want to start a career. I want to be a teacher. I want to teach girls to believe in themselves, because I believe in myself. I believe I can be a good teacher, and a good mother, and a good wife to you, someday.
…You're still the one…
Ricky's Graduation.
Ricky: Amy Jurguens, will you marry me?
**(Flashback ends)**
Ricky leaned over towards Amy and brushed her hair out of her face, as she laid on the bed.
Ricky: I love you Amy.
He whispered, and she immediately opened her eyes, and gave him a soft smile.
Amy: I love you too Ricky.

INT: GEORGE AND KATHLEEN'S HOME – 2 AM
George sat at the kitchen table, with Kathleen in the chair next to him. He and Kathleen were awaiting a second phone call from Ricky, notifying them whether they should leave to head towards the hospital.
George: Maybe we should just leave now?
Kathleen chuckled as she rubbed George's back with one hand.
Kathleen: Sweetie, it can be a while. Ricky told you he would let you know when the doctor says it's close to delivery.
George: I know, it's just, Amy is my little girl. I was there with her the entire time she was in labor with John. I just feel like I should be there.
Kathleen: I know George, but Amy is married now, and well, Ricky is there for her. And I'm sure he is doing a wonderful job. I know you don't want to face it, but Amy and Ricky are adults now and they need to experience this together. Ricky didn't have that chance when John was born; he needs to do this, just him and Amy.
George shook his head in agreement. He knew Kathleen was right. Ricky was there for her, and he knew very well that he was taking care of Amy; but, he couldn't help but feel left out of everything. She was his little girl, and even though she was an adult now and married, he still wanted to be there at her bedside, guiding her through everything.
Suddenly George's cell phone rang, and he jumped so quickly to answer it that the phone flopped around in his hands before he could get a firm grip.
George: Hello?!
He said frantically, without even looking at the screen first to see who was calling.
Nora: George, it's me, Nora. Have you heard anything yet?
George slumped his shoulders; he was disappointed that it wasn't Ricky on the other line.
George: Nope. Nothing yet.
Nora: Ugh, I can't sleep. I feel like going down there now. I hope everything is okay.
George: Yeah, tell me about it. I hate having to wait.
Nora: When did you last hear from Ricky?
George: About two hours ago. He said he'd call me when it was getting close.
Nora: Yeah, me too. It's been a long time now though, hasn't it?
George: Yeah, I guess. But these things can take a while I guess.
Nora: Yeah, that's true. Have you talked to Anne?
George's eyes widened. He completely forgot that Ricky asked him to call her two hours ago.
George: Oh my god, I completely forgot! I have to call her now!
Nora: Oh goodness, George! How could you not call her! It's going to take her forever to drive here; she is going to be so angry with you!
George: Ah, I know. I can't believe I forgot damn it. Let me call her now. I'll call you back if I hear anything.
Nora: Okay. Same here.
George quickly hung up the phone, and searched his contacts for Anne's number.
He finally found it, and began calling.
It rang four times before Anne finally answered.
Anne: George?
Her voice was crackled.
George: Anne, I'm sorry to wake you; but Amy's in labor.
Anne became startled, even though her voice was still cracking from just waking up.
Anne: She's in labor? When did it start?
George clenched his teeth; she was going to be so angry with him.
George: They went to the hospital about four hours ago…
He said, cautiously.
Anne: Four hours ago?! George, why didn't you call me sooner?
He swung his head down.
George: I'm sorry Anne. I'm a nervous wreck, it just slipped my mind. Ricky told me to call you two hours ago, I just completely forgot.
Anne sighed.
Anne: Ugh, George. It's going to take me four hours to drive there, you know that. Geez, how far along is she?
George: Not sure. But the last time I spoke to Ricky, he said she had a while to go, and that he'd call me when she was close.
Anne: Ugh, well I better get dressed now, and get moving. I really hope I get there before she gives birth.
George: I'm sorry Anne.
Anne: Yeah, George, I know. Call me if anything happens.
George: Okay, I will.
Anne: Bye George.
George hung the phone up, and looked over at Kathleen.
George: So maybe Amy should take forever to have this baby, because if she doesn't, Anne is going to kill me.
Kathleen just shook her head at George's forgetfulness.
TRANSITION TO:
INT: HOSPITAL/ CALIFORNIA – 4 AM
Amy's contractions were increasing, but she still wasn't further enough along to receive an epidural. They were only 10 minutes apart now, and she was only three centimeters dilated.
Amy sat up, with her head down towards her legs, wincing in pain, as she breathed through another contraction.
Ricky was holding one of her hands, while gently rubbing her back with the other.
He looked terrified, and it was killing him to watch Amy in so much pain.
Amy: I can't take much more of this. Why is it taking so long, I don't understand, we've been here for hours.
She began crying softly, and it was breaking Ricky's heart to hear it.
Ricky: I'm going to find the doctor real quick okay? I'll be right back Amy.
She nodded, but didn't answer him in words. She was trying to concentrate on her breathing.
Ricky kissed her forehead, and then ran out of the room in search of a doctor.
He quickly returned with Amy's gynecologist, and Amy looked up, relieved.
Doctor: Alright Amy, how are you feeling?
Amy: Not good.
She said, as she tightly returned her hand to Ricky's.
Ricky: Is there anything we can do to speed up the process? She is in a lot of pain.
Ricky said, nervously, as he continued rubbing Amy's back.
Doctor: Well, I think we're going to start injecting some small doses of Pitocin into your IV for now. That should speed up the process a bit, and as soon as you reach about five centimeters Amy, we will be able to administer the epidural. It seems that your body is working a bit slower than we'd like it too, so the Pitocin should help.
Ricky: Everything is okay though right? It's normal for it to take longer than usual?
Amy looked up at the doctor, wanting to know the same answer.
Doctor: Yes. It's normal. Sometimes the babies just don't want to come out as quickly; however, the reason we speed up the process, is because we don't want the baby to get overly stressed inside the womb for too long. That's when complications can arise, but I assure you, right now everything is fine, and the baby is doing well. We just want to give you the Pitocin to prevent anything like that from happening.
Ricky nodded, but he still wasn't convinced that everything was going smoothly. He was so nervous that he felt like his knees were going to bellow beneath him.
Doctor: The nurse will be in, in a few minutes, to give you the Pitocin okay?
Amy nodded, and the doctor exited the room.
Amy yelped at the onset of another contraction, and as a reaction to it, she pulled Ricky down, closer to her, resting her head in his shoulder, as she cried.
Ricky felt helpless; he couldn't stand watching her go through this.
He held her tight; with everything he had, trying to comfort he as best he could.
Amy: It hurts so badly.
She cried.
Ricky: I know Amy, I know. I'm sorry. If I could take the pain away, I would. I'm sorry.
Ricky held her tightly as she tried to breathe through it, finding himself trying to breathe through it as well…
