Chapter 14

Kaylie's POV

Darkness….that's all that I can see was just darkness all around me.

"Kaylie" I hear a voice say I look around and see no one.

"Whose there?" I ask still looking around at nothing.

"This way Kaylie come on" the voice says again and I look and see a little light at the end of all the darkness. I get up and run to the light and as I get closer it gets brighter.

I finally reach the light and it clovers me in its warmth. I blink a few times and look around and I notice I'm standing on a beach. I look around and see no one on this beach it was quite as the waves it the shore.

"Kaylie" I turn around when I hear the voice that's been calling me. I see a girl she looks about my age maybe a little older. She was wearing a long beautiful white dress her brown hair was long with spiral curls down her back.

"Who are you?" I ask and she smiles a bit.

"I'm Sophia your guardian angel" she says and I look at her completely confused.

"Guardian Angel since when did I have a guardian angel?"

"Kaylie I've always been there you just couldn't see me….after you stopped seeing me."

"What do you mean I stopped seeing you?" She smiles again.

"Kaylie do you remember when you were a little girl and you had an imaginary friend?" I thought back to when I was a little girl. I had an imaginary friend and her name was Soph and her I did everything together but once I got to the four grade I didn't see her anymore and my dad said imaginary friends weren't real. I look at her again with surprise and relief.

"Soph, why did you leave?" I ask.

"Because you were getting to old to see me...but I never left you Kaylie I was always there watching you to make sure you where okay"

"Everything wasn't alright since you were there I'm sure you saw it all" She nods sadly.

"Yes I did but I couldn't get involved Kaylie trust me every time I wanted too but one of our rules is to never interfere or be seen. But I helped out when I could"

"What do you mean?" she smiles a little.

"Who do you think got all of those people to want homes I mean of course I would have some stubborn ones but I knew I would get them to buy it." I smile at her.

"That was you?" she nods.

"Some of it was your dad but majority was me. It was the only way I could get involved without getting in trouble." I nod at her.

"Well thank you" she smiles and nods again. "Am I in heaven?" I ask looking around she looks around too.

"No this is where I stay it's my own little place that I have away from heaven I guess you can say heaven is kind of our home we go to every Sunday or when we have meetings. This is kind of is little my own personal place."

"Wow it's beautiful" I thought about everything she has said. "So does this mean I'm dead?"

"That Kaylie is completely up to you" I look at her confused. "What I mean is the decision to wake up and go back to earth or stay here with me is completely up to you" I thought about it and staying here did sound way better then dealing with my life back home. I would be around my best friend again it could be like old times. But no matter how badly I want to get away from my dad I can't leave Kyle like that.

"Sophia I would love to stay here and catch up with you like old times but I can't leave my brother there like that" she smiles at me.

"No need to explain anything to me Kaylie I know" I smile at her. "To get back home you'll need to go that way" she says pointing to a dark tunnel.

"Wait when will I see you again?" I ask and she starts to fade away.

"Even if you never see me remember I'll always be there now go he's waiting for you" I look at her.

"Wait who's waiting for me?" I ask but she disappears before she can answer and I run to the tunnel. It was dark but I could see something at the end I ran as fast as I could to it. It was bright but not as bright as Sophia's place.

I blink a few times and look up at what I believe is the ceiling. I look around and notice white walls where the hell am I. I move my hand to pull whatever is on my face off but I'm met with a lot of pain. I groan from the pain I'm starting to feel everywhere.

"Kaylie?!" I knew that voice I turn my head to see the person but their arms where wrapped around me and their face was in my neck. I sigh in relief the pain didn't even matter to me anymore.

"It's ok Kyle I'm ok" I say trying to calm him down and reassure him.

"I thought you were going to…." Kyle mumbles into my shoulder.

"I know but its ok I'm here and I'm fine ok?" I heard footsteps by the door. I look over and saw Callie, Brandon and Jude. They both seemed surprised that I was up. Brandon walks back out and Callie and Jude sit in the seats nearby and Kyle lets me go and sits back down next to me but I hold his hand.

"Hey Kaylie, how are you feeling?" Jude asks.

"I'm ok just in a lot of pain" before anyone can ask me anything else Stef, Lena and a doctor walks in.

"Hey Kaylie how are you feeling?" the doctor ask and I notice her from some of the times I go to the hospital.

"Ok just in a lot of pain" she nods.

"We'll give you something for it don't worry" she pause and then continues "Kaylie do you remember what happen?" I thought about her question for a minute I really don't remember much about how I got here.

"No I don't all I remember is I was at the movies waiting for Jesus and we decided to reschedule and I was heading home and that's it."

"As you were leaving the movie theater a drunk driver was running from us and he hit you" Stef explains to me. I think what she says but I just don't remember that.

"It's okay Kaylie, a little memory loss is normal with head trauma" the doctor says I guess sensing my distress. I nod at her and I look around the room and I notice everyone was there expect my dad, Mariana and Jesus.

"Where's my dad?" I ask and the doctor looks at Stef and Lena and Stef nods at them and she looks over at me.

"Kaylie, tu padre te abusó (Kaylie, did your dad abuse you)?" I stop and look at her with which I'm sure looks like fear.

"No, nunca me pegó (no he never hit me )" I say quickly. She sighs and sits next to me.

"Kaylie el doctor confirmó que tiene la contusión del abuso y Kyle me dijo también (Kaylie the doctor confirmed that you have bruising from abuse and Kyle told me as well)" she says and I look over at Kyle.

"Lo siento, me preguntó y yo estaba cansado de mentir para él (I'm sorry she asked me and I was tired of lying for him)"

"Kaylie, solamente quiero ayudar pero no puedo hacer eso si no me dices lo que hizo? (Kaylie I only want to help you but I can't do that if you don't tell me what he did?)"

I look into Stef eyes I have always wanted to change to tell her or Lena whats been going on at home and here was my change and I'm still scared. I sigh and look down.

"He estado esperando lo que siente como una eternidad que alguien dijera esto...Sí que lo hizo (I've been waiting for what feels like a lifetime to tell anybody this...yes he did)" I say and she nods.

"Es bien Kaylie no podrá nunca lastimó chicos otra vez (It's okay Kaylie he'll never hurt you guys again)" I nod at her.

"Vamos a ver si podemos conseguir en contacto con el bien de tu madre (We're going to see if we can get in touch with your mother okay)" I was surprised by this but I nod.

"Okay this should stop the pain" the doctor says putting something in the tubes. "I'll be back to check on you" she says as she walks out with Stef and Lena.

I lay back as I feel the pain ease away I sigh and close my eyes for a second. I open them and look at everyone and I notice they're all staring at me.

"No need to watch me guys I'm fine" they nod awkwardly and I remember that with my dad not being here somebody else wasn't either.

"Hey where's Jesus?" I ask no one in particular but no one said anything either. They all look at each other as if to ask who was going to say it first.

"Um he's here I think he's downstairs I'll go get him" Brandon says and I nod and he walks out. I'm a little surprised that Jesus wasn't with everyone else but I'm happy he came I just want to see him and have him tell this was some big old crazy dream. It was an awkward silence with us after Brandon left.

"So Kaylie I didn't know you spoke spanish" Callie says and I laugh a little.

"Yeah you know my last name is Alvarez right and I was born here in San Diego" she laughs a little and nods.

"I guess that makes sense" before I can say anything else Brandon walks back in.

"Hey B, where's my best friend?" I ask looking behind him to see if Jesus was there. Brandon pauses for a moment as he looks at me as he tries and finds the words.

"I'm sorry Kaylie….he just doesn't want to come up just yet" I sit there a little hurt but not surprised anymore by what Jesus will do.

"I'm sorry Kaylie" Brandon says again and I shake my head.

"It's okay Brandon it's not your fault…but I'm a little sleep guys so-"

"Yeah no problem Kaylie we'll come back later" Callie says and I nod as she, Jude and Brandon walk out but Kyle stays awhile.

"I'm fine Kyle I promise you can go with them" I say and he nods and leans down and kisses my cheek.

"I love you Kaylie" I smile at him.

"I love you too" He walks out and closes the door behind him.

I close my eyes and I start to think about Jesus I guess he just doesn't care about me like I do him. Kaylie maybe it's time for you to walk away because the more you let him think he can hurt you he will. My inner thoughts say to me and I was starting to believe them maybe I should just walk away and save myself from more hurt and heartbreak and forget about being in this one sided friendship…
