I will be starting school again next week, which means EARLY mornings. I usually write at night, and I mean late at night. It was just after 2 a.m. here as I typed this author's note. I don't know if I'm going to be able to update on Thursdays anymore. It may have to be after that, and I'm not going to promise a chapter next week because I have a feeling I'm going to be exhausted since it will be the first week. BUT I intend to have a new chapter for you guys every week (except maybe next week), I just think it may end up being after Thursday from now on. I hope you guys don't mind too much.

Also, there's a flashback in this chapter. The person talking about what happened in the flashback isn't actually in the whole flashback. The flashback is for you guys, not necessarily an entire memory for the character that is telling it. I hope that makes sense. I don't want to give away too much by telling you who is talking about it and all that stuff. The character is just telling the part he knows, the rest is for y'all.

Ok, I think that's everything! So, please enjoy the chapter! Happy reading…

Caroline woke up the next morning feeling disoriented. She noticed that her head was resting on something much firmer than her pillow, but it felt nice, familiar even. Then, the whole night came rushing back to her. The movie. Going to bed. The dream. And finally, asking Klaus to stay. She felt her mouth forming into a smile involuntarily just at the thought of the man laying beside her. She would have laughed at anyone that told her Klaus Mikaelson was capable of soothing someone after having a nightmare had they told her when she was in high school. He wasn't the comforting type, or so he had appeared all those years ago. But, here he was, not only having calmed her down after her bad dream, but also never leaving her side when she had asked him to stay. However, she had a feeling he would only do those things for her, and that only made her smile grow.

She looked up at Klaus, careful not to wake him. She couldn't help but notice how strikingly handsome he was as he laid there so peacefully. Her eyes trailed from his messy curls to his perfectly rosy lips and down to his sharp jawline that was covered with stubble. She couldn't resist softly tracing his lower lip with her thumb. Caroline realized that she hadn't taken the time to truly appreciate him since her accident.

At the feeling of her touch, Klaus' eyes popped open, panic apparent on his face. "What is it? Is something wrong?" His arm tightened around her waist, pulling her closer to him.

Caroline giggled. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to wake you." Her curls were slightly tangled and in a mess, and her eyes were still puffy from her deep sleep.

Klaus exhaled a sigh of relief before taking in the scene in front of him. He smiled at the beautiful blonde. He hadn't realized how much he missed waking up beside her. How much he missed running his fingers through her messy hair and kissing her slowly. Without thinking, his fingers wound themselves in her curls. "It's quite alright, sweetheart. I don't mind being woken up if it's by such a gorgeous woman." He smirked.

She raised her eyebrows. "I better be the only woman."

Klaus chuckled at his spunky wife. "Of course, love. Always only you."

"That's better." Caroline smiled before reaching up to place a tender kiss to his lips.

Klaus forgot for a minute that she had lost her memory and allowed himself to get lost in her kiss. He tangled his hand in her hair, holding her to him as his other hand rested on her lower back. His lips moved slowly against hers, but she could feel the passion, the fierceness, behind it. When she pulled back for a second to catch her breath, Klaus felt like reality punched him in the face.

"I'm sorry, Caroline. I just got caught…" He began to explain, but was cut off when Caroline's mouth crushed his again.

"Don't be sorry." Her blue eyes met his, waiting for him to acknowledge what she said. When he nodded, Caroline decided to redirect the conversation because she didn't want to move from their spot. It was too perfect for the time being. She began to softly rub the dark circle under one of his deep blue eyes with her thumb as her hand rested on his cheek. "Did you not sleep very well?"

"I didn't get much sleep. I wanted to make sure that you weren't going to have anymore nightmares, so I tried to stay awake in case you needed me. I must have fallen asleep despite my intentions." He turned into her touch, placing a kiss on her palm.

Caroline smiled, but shook her head. "I wish you wouldn't have done that. You being in here with me was all I needed. You didn't need to deprive yourself of sleep."

"I'm fine, love. Once I have my coffee, I'll be good to go." He smiled back at her.

Caroline laid her head back on his chest. "Are you sure you don't want to just stay here for a little while longer? I don't mind if you want to sleep for a bit." She secretly hoped he would agree. She didn't know if she would ever get tired of just laying with him and feeling his arms wrapped around her. How could I ever forget this, she wondered.

"There is nothing I'd rather do than lay here with you, love, but unfortunately I told my brother I would help him move the rest of his things into the mansion today." He began tracing invisible shapes on Caroline's back, reluctant as she was to move. Caroline lifted her head so she could see his face again, her bottom lip jutted out in a pout. Klaus wanted to laugh at her expression, but instead he took the chance to quickly kiss it away.

"Which brother?" Caroline was still pouting, but doing a better job at hiding it.

"Elijah. With everything that's been going on, I guess I forgot to mention it. He's decided to move here full time so he can be around his family." Klaus had to fight the urge to call his brother and cancel on him.

Caroline sighed. "Well, you can't break your word."

"You could always come with me, sweetheart." Klaus offered, feeling just as irritated as she was. It was the first morning that felt normal to him since the accident, and it just so happened to be on a day that he had plans he couldn't get out of.

"And do what? Sit with Rebekah? No thanks." Caroline tore herself away from him so she could get out of bed.

They both immediately felt the absence of the other, and she had to force herself not to curl back up beside him. Klaus tried to grab her arm to pull her back under the cover, but she quickly jumped out of his reach, knowing that if she laid back down, she wouldn't let him leave. He groaned.

"Believe it or not, sweetheart, you and Rebekah were friends." Klaus sat up and leaned against the headboard.

She slipped her arms inside of her robe before tying it around the waist. "I believe you, but I'm not ready to be by myself with her. I wouldn't even know what to say, and I can tell she doesn't know what to say to me when I'm around either."

He nodded. "I understand. So what are you going to do while I'm gone then?"

She shrugged. "Maybe I'll call Elena or just stick around the house. How long do you think you will be gone?"

"Probably three or four hours. Elijah has quite a bit to move in."

Caroline nodded. "Then, why don't you go get ready and I'll make your coffee."

Klaus stood and made his way for the door since his clothes were in the room he had been staying in, but not before stopping and placing a kiss to Caroline's forehead. "Thank you."

Caroline smiled shyly before exiting the room herself. She practically skipped into the kitchen, her mood incredibly cheerful after the wonderful morning she had had, although it could have lasted longer. She placed the coffee grounds into the machine with the water, and began to wander around the house, trying to waste time. She realized in that moment that it might not be the best idea to just stay home. She didn't have anything to do.

"Mmmm," Klaus came out of the bedroom. "That coffee smells wonderful." He smiled at Caroline, his dimples accentuating the fact that it was a real, genuine smile.

"I wish you didn't have to go," Caroline felt whiny as soon as the words left her mouth. "It's just that I'm going to be so bored without you."

"But not so bored that you would rather be with my sister?" He questioned, his eyebrows almost to his hairline.

Caroline sighed and shook her head. "No, I guess not that bored."

Klaus walked into the kitchen and poured himself a mug of coffee. "You do realize that I will be there, love. You won't be alone with her." He told her as he sauntered back into the living area with his mug in hand.

"Yes, but you'll be busy." Caroline took a seat on the couch. "If I'm there, you'll just feel obligated to entertain me. If I stay here, you'll get done faster, and then you can come back to me."

Klaus placed a kiss on the top of her head. "Alright, then. I'm going to go. I'll see you soon." Then, he disappeared out the front door.

Caroline was bored out of her mind within twenty minutes. There was nothing good enough on television to hold her interest. She didn't have the patience at the moment to concentrate on reading a book. She didn't even know much about the job that she had had before the accident, so she couldn't occupy herself with those details. She didn't have a car yet, so she couldn't leave the house. There was literally nothing to do.

The phone rang as she called Elena and waited for a response. Elena finally answered on the fifth ring.

"Hey, Elena. It's Caroline!" The blonde was glad to hear her friend's voice.

"Hey, Care. What's up?"

"Not too much. I'm so bored. Do you want to go shopping or something?" Caroline could hear the hope in her own voice.

"I can't. I'm at work. Sorry, Care. Where's Klaus?"

Caroline's shoulders slumped as she felt her last hope slip away. "He's helping Elijah move in to the mansion."

"Oh." Elena was quiet for a moment. "I would go if I could, but I don't get off work until late tonight."

"That's alright," Caroline stated. "I will let you get back to work. See you later, Elena."

"Bye," the brunette replied before they both hung up.

Caroline gave in and decided to search through the stack of DVD's they had. She settled on The Notebook, figuring it would be a good time to watch it since Klaus wasn't home. She didn't think he enjoyed chick flicks too much even though he would watch them for her. As she became engrossed in the movie, she wondered if her romance with Klaus was anything like Noah's and Allie's. She knew that she had started dating Klaus right outside of high school, so they were a young couple. Klaus was wealthy, much like Allie's family, but Caroline wasn't exactly poor. She knew that much like Noah did for Allie, Klaus would do anything for her. And although her parents didn't pull her away from him like Allie's parents did to Allie and Noah, Caroline's accident tore her away from Klaus. Luckily, her memory loss didn't make her stay away from Klaus for as long as Allie and Noah were apart. However, she couldn't help but to relate with the older Allie in the story. Allie didn't remember her life. She didn't know that the man in front of her was, in fact, her husband. Caroline thought back to the day she came out of her coma. She had no idea that Klaus was her husband. Noah read Allie the story of their lives. Klaus showed Caroline their lives in photographs. She couldn't deny those similarities, and by the end of the movie, she was in tears. She hoped that her love for Klaus would bring back the memories she had lost just like Allie's love for Noah did.

The movie hadn't been over for more than five minutes when the doorbell rang. Caroline thought that maybe Klaus had forgotten his key, but when she looked at the time, she saw that only a couple of hours had passed. She walked over to the door and looked through the window to see a very familiar brunette standing on the other side. She considered not opening it, but knew she would feel bad. Instead, she took a deep breath, and turned the door knob.

"Tyler," Caroline forced a smile. "What are you doing here?"

"Hey, Care." He was wringing his hands, his nerves getting the best of him. "I just wanted to talk to you for a minute."

"I don't know if that's a good idea. Nik wouldn't be very happy if he knew you were here."

Tyler looked towards the driveway, as if double checking to make sure Klaus' vehicle wasn't there, and then back at Caroline. "It won't take long."

Caroline sighed, nodded, and stepped aside so he could enter. "Can I get you anything to drink?" She asked after closing the door behind him.

"No, I'm fine." He took a seat at the table, so Caroline joined him.

"Okay, what is it Tyler?" She wanted to get this over with before Klaus came through the door. They were having such a good day and she didn't want to ruin it.

"I'm so sorry, Caroline. I don't know what got into me. When Elena told me that you thought we were still together, I saw it as an opportunity to get you back. Then, Klaus warned me to stay away from you, and you know how I get when someone tells me to do something, especially someone I don't care for. The way I acted was out of line, and I understand if you never want to speak to me again, but I needed to tell you that I was sorry." Tyler's brown eyes were pleading for forgiveness.

Caroline was never really one to hold grudges when it came to her friends. She didn't like the way he acted, but she knew that Tyler liked to win, and he thought he saw an opportunity to beat Klaus. It was his personality, and she had accepted that long ago. So, instead of being angry with him, she decided to just let it go. "Don't worry about it, Tyler. Let's just pretend it never happened."

Tyler's eyes widened in surprise. "Really?"

Caroline nodded. "But, I would like it if you could do something for me."

"Sure, anything," Tyler smiled.

"Tell me what happened between us. And I want the truth. I can ask Nik, and I will if I don't believe you, but I feel like you can tell me more about it than him since it was between me and you." Caroline thought they had time to talk a little more before Klaus made it home.

Flashback~ High school~ Senior year

"Hey Elena!" Caroline walked over to her best friend and gave her a hug. "Can you believe it's our last week of high school ever?"

Elena shook her head. "It doesn't seem real yet. Soon we will all be going off to college. We might not ever see some of these people again."

As the two friends walked across the lawn in front of the school making their way into the building, they passed by their classmates. Most of them were nothing more than friendly acquaintances. Caroline was only close to Elena, Matt, and Tyler, and that was completely fine with her. She didn't need to be around a large group of friends all the time to be happy. Almost all of the students liked Caroline because she was nice to them, but no one could call her a best friend other than Elena. As their gazes passed from face to face, Caroline's landed on the one person she would be fine never seeing again.

"You promise I'll never have to see her again?" She wrinkled her nose as she looked in the other blonde's direction.

Elena laughed. "Caroline, be nice. Rebekah isn't that bad."

Caroline rolled her eyes. "Yeah, and neither is drinking vinegar."

Before Elena could reply, Matt and Tyler met up with them. Tyler slung his arm across Caroline's shoulders and leaned in to give her a kiss. Instinctively, she turned her head so his lips landed on her cheek instead of her mouth. His brow furrowed as he pulled away, and Caroline had to keep herself from doing the same. She tried to figure out in her mind what would make her turn away from him, but she couldn't find an answer. They had been dating for a year at the time, and she would have thought that she would have kissed him out of habit if nothing else.

Rebekah Mikaelson walked by, glaring at Caroline, before her whole expression changed when her blue eyes landed on Tyler. She batted her eyelashes, which almost made Caroline laugh. She thought they only did that in cartoons. Then, Rebekah smiled at Tyler. "Hey, Tyler," she said in her best flirty voice.

"Hey, Rebekah." Tyler replied, but the interaction ended there.

Caroline thought she should be angry or jealous, but she felt nothing. She realized that she couldn't care less if Rebekah flirted with Tyler. Her ego was the only thing that would be hurt if he decided to leave her for Rebekah at that very moment. That's not how it should be. She decided she needed to talk to Elena alone.

After separating from the boys, Caroline pulled Elena into the girl's restroom. "We need to talk!" Caroline told her.

"What's going on?" Elena could tell something was off with her best friend.

"I don't know. Something isn't right with me and Tyler." The blonde was obviously flustered.

"What do you mean?"

"For the past few weeks I've barely talked to him, and I never thought anything of it until today. When he tried to kiss me, I turned away. When Rebekah was flirting with him, I didn't care. I haven't wanted to be with him. I keep blowing him off." Caroline explained.

Elena's eyes widened. "Are you saying that you are going to break up with him? I thought you loved him."

Caroline leaned against the wall and covered her face with her hands. "I did love him. I do love him. I'm just not in love with him, but I don't know if I can break up with him."

"Care, you can't lead him on. If you aren't in love with him, you need to tell him."

"I know," Caroline sighed. "I just need some time to figure out how to tell him."

Unfortunately, neither girl had checked to see if anyone else was in the bathroom when they had entered. Rebekah walked out of the stall, her heels clicking against the tiled floor. She had a smirk on her face that reminded Caroline a lot of her older brother, Klaus. "I can tell him for you."

Caroline's eyes squinted, her glare meant only for Rebekah. "Don't you dare say a word to him."

"And if I do?" The blonde's smirk was still in place.

"I'll make your life in this high school miserable," Caroline replied with a smirk of her own.

Rebekah laughed. "Come on, Caroline. We have a week left. That's hardly a threat." She made her way over to the door. "You have until after school to tell him." She threw one last smirk over her shoulder before disappearing.

Caroline wanted to scream, but she knew it wouldn't help anything. It would just give Rebekah the satisfaction of knowing that she got to her. Caroline turned to her best friend. "She's not that bad, huh?" She asked sarcastically before storming out of the bathroom to go to class, leaving the brunette standing speechless with a shocked look on her face.

Caroline sent Tyler a text to meet her after school right outside the front doors. She didn't pay attention to anything her teachers had said that day, too focused on coming up with what she was going to say to Tyler. She wanted to just disappear after school, let Rebekah tell him, but she knew that was the easy way out and he deserved to hear it from her. So instead of running, she waited outside the doors right after the final bell rang.

Tyler came out of the building with a smile on his face. "Hey baby." He tried to kiss her, but again she turned before he hit her lips. "Okay, Care, what's going on?" He looked annoyed, not worried.

Caroline took a deep breath before letting it out slowly. "We need to talk."

"About what?"

"Us," Caroline saw his facial expression completely change. Now he was worried. "I don't know what's happened, Tyler, but my feelings have changed. I'm not in love with you anymore."

Anyone could practically see the wheels turning in his brain. "We can figure out why you feel that way. I can change."

Caroline shook her head. "You are one of my closest friends. I like you just the way you are. I'm just not in love with you anymore. I'm sorry."

"Care, don't do this," he pleaded.

Caroline's heart felt like it was breaking in half. She hated that she was hurting him. "I'm so sorry. It's over." Before he could beg her or come up with a different solution, Caroline kissed his cheek and walked away, not wanting to make it any harder on either of them.

Present Day

Caroline could see that it still hurt Tyler to talk about the break up. "I'm sorry I hurt you like that."

Tyler forced a smile. "It was a long time ago, Care. It's over now."

Caroline smiled back and nodded. At least he had seemed to forgive her. "Well, thank you for being honest."

Tyler stood up to leave, and Caroline stood to follow him out. "Yeah, of course," he told her, and walked towards the door. He was just about to open it when it swung open.

Klaus and Tyler stood face to face. Caroline could see Klaus' expression go from happy to angry in the matter of a second.

"What are you doing here?" Klaus growled, his fists balling up at his sides.

"Hey, man, I was just leaving." Tyler gestured towards the doorway, but Klaus was still blocking it.

"That doesn't answer my question," his tone was getting darker.

Caroline stepped between the two guys, afraid that Klaus might actually hit Tyler. "Nik, he was just coming to apologize." She laid her hands on his chest in an attempt to calm him down. She could feel his heart racing.

Klaus looked down at the blonde in front of him, his eyes softening a bit, but not completely. "I want him out."

Caroline nodded, and turned to Tyler. "You better go."

Tyler had to squeeze between Klaus and the wall to get out, but he managed to do so. When he was gone, Klaus slammed the door shut which caused Caroline to jump. She expected Klaus to say something, but he just walked away. She felt the tears spring to her eyes when she realized that despite her efforts, she ruined their great day. She walked into the living room to see him sitting in his armchair, staring out the window.

"Nik?" She whispered, but he didn't say anything. She could see his jaw clenching as she drew closer to him. "Nik! Please look at me." When she still didn't get a response, it made her angry. She stormed in front of his view, so he looked up at her, jaw still clenched. "It's not my fault! He just showed up."

"You didn't have to let him in." His voice was low.

Caroline got down on her knees beside his chair so she was closer to him. "He was just here to apologize."

"And how long did it take him to apologize?" He replied sarcastically, seeming to not believe her.

"Not long, but I asked him about our break up, and he was telling me everything he knew. That was it."

He didn't look like he was going to accept her explanation, but then he nodded slightly. "Please don't let him in again."

Caroline nodded. "I won't. But please don't let this ruin our day."

She saw the anger drain from his face, his jaw completely relax, and his eyes soften. He gently grabbed her face between his hands and kissed her. If she wouldn't let Tyler in their home anymore, he wouldn't allow this to ruin their whole day. "I'm going to take a shower, and then we are going to go out for dinner. Go get ready," he told her before placing another kiss to her lips and letting her go.

She smiled. "Sounds wonderful."

I know that Rebekah was mean in the flashback, but that was before Caroline ever started dating Klaus. Their relationship had to grow as well. Thank you for reading, and please leave me a review letting me know if you liked the chapter! :)
