Chapter 14

Today was the day. That's what Neal kept on telling himself. It wasn't an easy thing for the young man to do, revealing who he truly was to his father, was something he's feared the most since they'd moved to Storybrook. When the Doctors confirmed the pregnancy Neal decided that he had to stop postponing his talk with the Dark one, and face him already.

All night long he tossed and turned, and when Emma woke up a couple times in the night to ask him what was wrong, he just said that he was to excited with the news of the new addition to their family. Emma could tell that Neal was hiding something but just kept on thinking that maybe he was trying to figure out how life was going to work out with another baby. Every time Neal could he would place his hand over Emma's stomach and just pray that everything would be alright.

That day, Emma was taking Henry with her to the station for her half day at work and Neal took that as the perfect time to go and talk to his father. He really didn't want to confront his father on a day that he was watching Henry, his poor son didn't need to see the fight that Neal thought they would be having. So after both Emma and Henry gave him a kiss goodbye (Neal making sure to give Emma an extra kiss and place a hand over her flat stomach to say goodbye to the baby too) the duo left to leave Neal alone and letting his nerves get the better of him.

The walk to the Pawn shop seemed to be the longest walk that he'd ever taken, and he kept on checking his phone hoping that Emma or the shelter would call and say they needed him ASAP. Then there he was, facing the door of Mr. Gold's Pawn Shop and he couldn't muster up the strength to turn the nob on the door. Telling himself to breath a couple times, he relaxed a little and opened the door, hearing the sound of the belle jingle as he entered.

Neal hadn't been back in the shop since he was here with Emma on their second day in town. Being able to take a better look at the items in the shop, he saw things that reminded him of his childhood and home. While taking a moment to let himself breath he took another quick glance around, noticing some items from Henry's book, like the unicorn mobile that was supposed to hang over Emma's crib when she was a baby. Then Neal heard the knowing sound of his Papa's cane.

"Mr. Cassidy, nice to see you again. I heard that you and your family moved to our little town." Gold smiled, the feeling of familiarity around this young man returning, leaving the pawn broker to again guess who he was really dealing with.

"Mr. Gold." Neal responded carefully with a nod of his head to say hello.

"Now, Mr. Cassidy… Or would you prefer me to call you Neal? That's your name isn't it?" Rumple questioned, if he could figure out this man's real name he could figure out who he really was.

"Neal is fine… And to answer your question, Neal is my name yes, but it may not be my only name." Neal could recall how important names were to his father. Rumple would always tell Bae how strong his name was.

"Well don't we all." That little mischievous sparkle was back in the Dark Ones' eye and it concerned Neal. Thinking that he was doing an Ok job of hiding all the mixed emotions that he was feeling, Neal was completely caught of guard when Rumple said. "Now I feel like we haven't gotten off on the best of feet. But I can't really seem to think of a reason why."

"Why would you assume that something would be the matter between us?" Neal tried to play it all cool. Maybe he wasn't as calm on the outside as he thought.

Gold just raised his eye brow and shifted his weight from one leg to another. "Every time that you're around me you tense up. Now we've only seen each other a few times but I can almost get the feeling like you know me from some other place. Like we've met before, but all I can remember was the day that your family arrived in this small little town. I don't seem to recall meeting you before that."

"I'm not sure. Maybe you just remind of someone from my past. Someone from my past that I would want to keep my family away from. I'm sorry if that offended you, that wasn't my intention. I didn't have the easiest life growing up and neither did Emma. Our memories can get in the way of life sometimes when it comes to protecting Henry." Neal defended himself. Maybe he could make his father feel guilty and make him have pity before he revealed himself.

"So you're saying that we've never met before you arrived here? Because… Neal… there is something about you that I can't help but get the feeling that I know you or that I've had the pleasure of meeting you before. I just can't quite seem to match your name to a face." Mr. Gold decided to continue on with the challenge.

"Seems funny that someone like you can't remember someone. Especially someone who might be of importance to you." Neal looked at his father straight in the eyes, he wasn't going back now, he needed to get this out, but the anger from all these years came rushing back and he wasn't sure how he was keeping all his emotions at bay. "You see, what I really can't understand is, how one man could cause so many people such pain. Nothing else mattered as long as that person ended up more powerful in the end." Neal took another deep breath trying to fight back his tears. "How that one person could claim that they would do anything for the people that he loved, but when he needed to choose the most important person in his life over his powers he cowered away and failed them. Choosing power over blood as only a coward could do. And to my recollection that's what you are, is it not? P.A.P.A?" With every singly word that Neal said his anger started to grow and he feared that he wouldn't be able to control it, he was too hurt to really care. He could see the sting every time he said something that would get under his father's skin and it made him feel just a little bit better.

"Baelfire?" Rumple's eyes filled with tears. For a moment the man thought he had just imagined the entire thing because this was all too easy. The person that he had been searching for all these years was now standing in front of him? How was that possible? All Rumple wanted to do at the moment was pull his son into his arms but the hatred in Neal's eyes made him hesitate.

"Do no even think of touching me. Not after what you did." Neal took a step back when he saw Rumple's hand reach out towards him.

"I'm sorry Bae. I'm sorry for everything I've done. The moment I let go, the moment I lost you I've regretted it and done everything I possibly could to get you back."

"Yeah but to every one else's expense? You know what's so funny about all of this? The person that I love most in this world had to deal with so much pain because of you. She was the person who suffered the most, and I hate that it was because of me." The guilt in Neal rose, he always felt that it was partly his fault that Emma had to live such a hard life instead of the life she shove led with the people who love her the most.

"Emma." Gold put the pieces together. "You're with the saviour. I didn't know… I definitely didn't see that happening. All I knew was that this curse would bring me to you and at the time I didn't care about how, as long as it got you back to me was all that mattered. I'd just lost Belle and there was nothing else for me." Rumple truly didn't see that coming. All he saw was that Emma would break the curse, the fact that his son would be the one to bring her to this town and be her true love was a complete coincidence.

"Belle?" Neal was confused who on earth could his father be talking about? Then it hit him when he remembered a story he read to Henry a couple days ago. It was something along the lines of Beauty and the Beast. "You… you're the Beast! That is so fitting don't know why I didn't put that together before." Neal laughed awkwardly and somewhat evilly.

"What do you mean? I'm the Beast?" The pawn broker asked, his eyebrows furrowed in confusion. What on earth was his son referring him to?

"Never mind" Neal brushed it off not wanting to expand further and explain to his father about the fairy tales in this world.

It grew awkwardly silent for a few minutes, neither knowing what to say. "May I ask why you've come to me? I would like nothing more then to have a fresh start with you. To talk about what happened and see if you have it in your heart to be forgiven. But I have the feeling that it's not something that you want, and I would like to know what that something you would like is." Trying not to sound completely crushed and trying to still make himself still seem strong the older man continued, "You wouldn't be in my shop if you didn't have something to ask me." Rumple glance from Neal to the ground knowing very well that if their relationship was going to change at all Neal would need time. Rumple was one to know of abandonment, he went through it with his father, but unlike his father, he so desperately wanted to reconnect with Bae.

Neal took a gulp, was he ready to ask his father for help? Pushing his fear behind him, Neal looked his father straight in the eye and didn't flinch when he saw the desperation in his father's eyes. "You're right. I'm not here to hug it out. This is something that's going to take time to get over and I want you to understand that. I don't know if I would ever be able to forgive you. What I did want, is you to tell me how to break this curse. I need to know what to get Emma to do in order for this curse to break." Knowing that he may never be able to forgive his father pained him but it was the truth, no where there did he say he wasn't willing to work on it though. The pain and guilt in his father's eyes showed him how sorry he was but it wasn't enough for Neal to just forget everything he went through.

"I'm sorry but that is something that your fiancé is going to have to figure out for herself. I can't help you out there. And it's something that doesn't concern you." He regretted it the moment the words came out of his mouth. The fire that started in Neal's eyes made Rumple realize how much he cared for Emma, she really was his true love and he always remembered how Bae would go the distance for the people he loved.

"Anything that concerns MY family, has me involved in it." Neal tried to say while keeping his anger controlled. How dare he say that it wasn't his business, this was his fiancé they were talking about.

"Does she know about the curse?" Rumple questioned.

"Does she know about the curse?" Neal repeated completely appalled. "How would you tell someone who grew up in this world about a curse that brought everyone from the Enchanted Forest here? Do you think she would believe me? She has no recollection of her time there. She wasn't even an hour old when she was placed in that wardrobe. If I told her about the curse she would think I was insane and I would never see my children again. So no I haven't told her yet. That's why I'm here. It's the only reason I'm speaking to you at this very moment. I need your help to get her to break the cruse because you're the one who made it. So I don't care what you say, you are going to help Emma break this curse." Neal declared, trying to stand his ground as best he could.

"Children?" The father looked at his son confused. He remembered Henry, he'd met the boy before but that's the only child he knew of. Why would Neal be speaking in plurals if he and the Saviour only had Henry?

Neal almost wanted to punch himself in the face. He wasn't supposed to tell anyone, not yet, and he surely wasn't suppose to tell his Papa. "Yes, children." Neal took a shaky breath confirming what he said before.

"But you only have Henry."

"We have Henry but we've also found out that we have one on the way." Even thinking about his unborn child made him smile but as fast as the smile came to his face, Neal fought it to keep up his dominance.

"The Saviour… she's, she's pregnant?" Gold tried to say it to himself. Not only was he already a grandfather but he had another one on the way. That made him happy but he wasn't sure how this pregnancy would effect Emma breaking the curse. To be honest Gold has no idea how she was supposed to break the curse.

"Yes, she is. So now if you can help me so I can get her to break this sooner, it would be helpful."

"Bae I wasn't lying before, I really don't know how to break this curse." Gold was ashamed, he should know how to break it, but in reality all he cared about was finding his son and he was told that he himself wouldn't break the curse.

"But you're the one who made it, how do you not know how to break it." Neal said in disbelief.

Rumple just looked at his son, and his heart broke. "All I was told was that the curse wouldn't be broken by me. All I had to do was make it. I didn't even cast it. I'm sorry Bae. I really am." It was more pleading, he didn't want to push his son further away.

"But how do I get her to believe then. Can you help me with that? I don't know what I'm suppose to do here! I just want her to have her family. I want Emma to have everything she wants but how am I supposed to get her that if I don't know how to break this curse or how to get her to believe?" Neal leaned back on the counter, he was too overwhelmed by all this. It was all too much and it was only now catching up with him.

"I'm sorry son. I promise this though. I will help you. I'll see what I can figure out. Maybe just maybe you and I working together on this will lead us to the answers that we need." To his relief Neal didn't pull away from him and Rumple was able to place his hand on his son's shoulder. "If there is anything I can do I will do it. I love you son and even though I know your not ready, I'll always be here for you."

Neal could only nod his head in thanks. He didn't want to say much and he didn't want to say something that he would later regret. "Thank you. I've got to be going now." Neal quickly slid out of the door of the pawn shop and stopped after a few steps to take a breather. That was a lot to take in and all he wanted to do at the moment was take his family into his arms and hug them. He might still have a lot to do, but at least now, Neal could now officially check off something from his to do list.

Alright so there is the Rumple/ Neal reunion. I'm not too happy about this chapter but I just couldn't get it on paper. Let me know what you think, kind words keep me going. :) love reviews.
